Anyone else watching ?

I thought it was a nice touch to have Rob/David saying Nicole wasn't a gold-digger at all. . .
He is coming across as a decent person.

StrawberryLeaf · 09/03/2016 09:07

I've just watched the second episode, am really enjoying it. I was 13 when the chase happened, I don't really remember much about it all.

I agree Rob Kardashian comes across as a good person which goes against what I've previously thought since he was on OJs legal team.

MissGintyMarlow · 09/03/2016 09:20

I think Rob Kardashian comes across as a wet, spineless person so dazzled by his friend's fame he can't see the bleedin' obvious

APlaceOnTheCouch · 09/03/2016 11:08

Interesting MissGinty. I think he was just struggling to believe his friend could murder someone. That seems like a natural reaction to me and I think he also believed in the process of law and having the best defence possible unsurprising considering he was a lawyer

Terribleknitter · 09/03/2016 11:35

Just caught up on the last episode, Rob Kardashian definitely came over better this week, he looks like the only person on the defence team who isn't interested in getting more famous off the back of the case. I saw a flash of the humour Schwimmer can do during the reading the book seen as well.
I didn't take much notice of the actual trial coverage at the time, I didn't realise Marcia Clarke was so badly thought of!

SinisterBumFacedCat · 09/03/2016 14:18

Catching up today, Ron Goldmans dads grief and anger made cry Sad

Terribleknitter · 09/03/2016 17:55

There was a lovely documentary on one of the channels not long ago about Ron, lots of family videos and interviews with his family and friends. I wish I could remember what channel it was on, it really gave him a voice Smile

iminshock · 09/03/2016 20:00

About 2 years after the murders I visited some very wealthy friends in LA. They had been friends of OJ and Nicole ( they had been to their wedding)
They had no doubts whatsoever OJ was guilty. They said he was a total bully.

It's great watching this as it reminds me of some of the very opulent homes I visited back then. Strange how dated they now seem.

StrawberryLeaf · 09/03/2016 23:14

Iminshock that's really interesting your friends thought he was guilty. It's just crazy he ever got off, it really shows the advantage you are at if you have the money to hire the best people!

I was interested in the way the jury was selected. I've sat on a jury before and it's so different, there's no prequalification like in USA. There is no way of knowing if someone could be prejudiced.

homebythesea · 10/03/2016 17:02

Strawberry I honestly think that OJ would have been acquitted by that jury even if he was represented by a bog standard team of lawyers- it was more about punishing the racist LAPD than convicting the murderer of Nicole and Ron. It was a fundamental mistake not to hold the trial in the area of the mirders as they could have done.

EnthusiasmDisturbed · 11/03/2016 12:26

How interesting iminshock but not surprised

I agree it was more to do with race issues than him having the best lawyers he could buy (or him being a sports personality) but then they put that twist on the case

OP posts:
APlaceOnTheCouch · 11/03/2016 16:02

I'm not sure 'cheap' lawyers would have manipulated the case to make it a race issue tbh. There are lots of variables that could have impacted on the outcome from jury selection to where they held the trial but I think the legal team was very important.

Davros · 14/03/2016 20:08

Btw "Uncle Juice" wtaf!
I wasn't going to watch this because I thought I already know the ending but I decided to give it a go one slow night and it is very engrossing

LovelyFriend · 14/03/2016 20:42

Home didn't they say the court room closest to the crime was closed for refurbishing so it couldn't be used? (In episode 1?). Hence the movement downtown.

Awholelottanosy · 14/03/2016 21:55

Wow brilliant episode tonight. Can't believe the prosecutor collapsed during the opening speech! And the amount of manipulation by the Defence?

Think the prosecuting women ( can't remember her name) is so blinded by how compelling she feels the evidence is that she's underestimating the lengths the Defence will go to to undermine the prosecution case.

TensionWheelsCoolHeels · 14/03/2016 22:32

I agree awhole, she's not listening to her co-counsel. I think with hindsight we can see just how naive she's being in not seeing what is unraveling in front of her. I can remember the issues over the racist policeman vaguely but I was Shock seeing all that nazi memorabilia! He's just so extreme its gobsmacking.

I love Courtney B Vance as an actor, he's brilliant as Cochrane. Of all the characters, I think both he & Chris Darden/Sterling K Brown are the most interesting, as they both grasp the enormity of this trial but from different professional perspectives. The game playing/grandstanding by Cochrane while Darden is effectively gagged is fascinating to watch.

Philoslothy · 14/03/2016 22:35

I thought the series upped its game tonight, compelling viewing.

homebythesea · 14/03/2016 22:57

lovelyfriend they didn't use the closest courtroom because it was small and so no room for the media

The courtroom collapse was a bit of poetic licence- it happened outside the courtroom. But he did object many times throughout the opening speech and got himself in a tither and was told to "calm down dear" (or equivalent) by the judge

Unbelievable how they were allowed to stage OJ's house to make him look more "black" - you'd have thought it would be sealed off as a crime scene. And fascinating that they knew exactly what a liability Furhman was from day one. I'm afraid Marcua Clark is not coming out of this well- she pretty much fucked up every single decision so far

LovelyFriend · 15/03/2016 15:38

what a monumental fuck up that decision was then!

homebythesea · 15/03/2016 15:54

Great article!

I'd be fascinated to know whether Marcua Clark recognises with the benefit of hindsight the various mistakes which may have influenced the outcome? Think I may have a google later.......

EnthusiasmDisturbed · 15/03/2016 17:49

Interesting article

I am finding the series fascinating going to read recommended book once it's over. There is still a huge divide in LA that is unexpected and this series really shows that

OP posts:
Awholelottanosy · 15/03/2016 18:30

Was reading an article in the Mirror about something pretty devastating that happens to Marcia during the trial! Wonder if they will include it? Won't say what it is but you can google it...

LovelyFriend · 15/03/2016 19:21

I recall Marcia's dress, hair etc being criticised and she had a "make over" half way through the trial.

APlaceOnTheCouch · 15/03/2016 19:53

Awhole if you're referring to what I think you are then I think they will include it. We're getting little glimpses of other aspects of their lives and it was widely known as something that impacted Marcia.

I can see why Chris Darden now hates the case. He's trying desperately to do the right thing and being played by everyone round about him.

redexpat · 17/03/2016 19:32

I'm a bit late to this party but just watching on iPlayer. I remember the verdict being broadcast live on the six o'clock news, knew he was a famous person but not why, didn't understand the significance or that it was part of something bigger.

GT is great in this. I'm not so convinced by David Schwimmer.
