should we be this excited. we are grown ups we have waited 14 years we should be able to cope with 2 weeks. but no we hit the downloads Blush

mulder has jumped right back hasn't he. it's like he never left.

scully is taking sone time. but there have been glimpses of how it used to be

rainingsleepingbags · 26/01/2016 21:51

I loved it. Completely sucked me in and had me watching through my fingers most of the time (which I hardly ever do)

However, it was pretty messed up. FM was supposed to be the fifth episode, and that was really apparent. It would have made SO much more sense if they'd kept it that way, immediately preceding Scully's angst-fest of Ep 6.

I think surely not having her name on the door/her own desk is deliberate trolling by CC. I hope so anyway.

The William stuff... The ending of each fantasy-flashback thing with their respective fears was really, really good. Gut-wrenching.

The case was all over the place to be honest, they just didn't have enough time. Still really entertaining though.

It was very, very Hannibal-sequel IMO. Two obvious shout outs, and a lot of the visuals and overall feel of it was very Hannibal. Which is great, because Hannibal was brilliant.

Scully looks amazing. I've been watching a lot of S1 and S2 lately and ffs Scully's fashion evolution from then to now is an x file in itself.

Does anyone think William is with CSM?

VashtaNerada · 26/01/2016 21:52

I AM SO EXCITED!!!!!!! It's like I've literally gone back to being fifteen again.

Yes, the old Mulder's back, he needs the x-files. He went all wrong from s8 onwards. And there are definite glimpses of Scully, we just need whiney Scully ("it wasn't even real cream cheese"), funny Scully ("you rebel"), jealous Scully ("no I don't see the horns right there") and extreme anger Scully ("If he dies I'll pull the switch myself you son of a bitch").

I watch too much X-Files. ("Does that make you sad? It makes me sad.") Grin

William with CSM? Interesting! Maybe he's in that house with Samantha's hand prints Shock

OP posts:
Gileswithachainsaw · 26/01/2016 21:55

why do we do this to ourselves.....

Gileswithachainsaw · 26/01/2016 21:55

He's gotta be "reunited" surely??!!

rainingsleepingbags · 26/01/2016 21:56

There is nothing weird about is being excited, not if the entirety of the Internet is anything to judge by. It would be weird to not be excited and need to dl instantly!

I think they are definitely going to do season 11. These eps really seem to be about resolving the William storyline (as much as it can be resolved) so M & S can start again from scratch. Unless of course they're setting it up to resolve all the past shit with M & S so they can have a blank slate for those two other agents to take over and make it a proper reboot. I really hope that's not it Sad

VashtaNerada · 26/01/2016 21:59

What two other agents? Doggett and Reyes? Reyes is going to feature but not Doggett I think. And I don't think GA or DD would allow it to go ahead without them now!

OP posts:
Gileswithachainsaw · 26/01/2016 22:02

There's too much that's happened to completely resolve things..they can't "forget" enough to start over can they?

rainingsleepingbags · 26/01/2016 22:03

The William/CSM thing (not like that) was from Twitter, I love the idea tbh. Exactly like Samantha and Spender, kind of looked after but also experimented on. Poor William.

There will be a reunion,
I'm sure. Not sure if it will be a good or bad one, extrapolating from the Ep 6 stuff they've released so far.

And I thought of the sixth-extinction/amor fati ufo sandcastle too. There were a hell of a lot of references and callbacks to old eps. Which is great!

rainingsleepingbags · 26/01/2016 22:11

In terms of having a resolution to the William storyline, I think there's only two options. Either they are reunited and develop an ongoing relationship with him of some description, or he dies. He could be already dead but I think CC would prefer to save that particular torture for on screen. I think he'll die in Ep 6. They'll find him/be with him in some way beforehand (in a hospital maybe), then he'll die. And that is my general and probably very wrong interpretation of all the promo stuff Grin

The other two agents are the two young ones that we haven't seen yet - the girl is redheaded and calls Einstein and the guy is generically good-looking. I think they're just going to be a parody of sorts of M & S, but you never know.

Gileswithachainsaw · 26/01/2016 22:26

He can't die

nit that means they can't "get him back" though either Sad or he will die

rainingsleepingbags · 26/01/2016 22:48

I hope not, but I think he will. Like Emily. And then Scully will have some closure, from CC's perspective.

VashtaNerada · 26/01/2016 23:29

They can't repeat the Emily storyline surely! I really hope there's a positive conclusion, it's so unfair otherwise.

rainingsleepingbags · 27/01/2016 01:08

It would be horrific and so cruel to Scully. But there are some promo pics out there which do make me wonder Sad

On a happier note I loved seeing more Skinner! And his beard Grin

VashtaNerada · 27/01/2016 05:54

sleepingbags - I'm trying to avoid spoilers for the last four! But more than happy to discuss Skinner's beard Grin

I accept that writing 'spoilers' in the title was slightly misleading! I just meant for people who hadn't watched it yet.

OP posts:
rainingsleepingbags · 27/01/2016 06:15

Fair enough vashta. I'm only guessing at what the promo stuff could mean, most likely I'm really very wrong Smile

rainingsleepingbags · 27/01/2016 06:37

I don't know if you guys have already said in your old threads, but how/when did you all get into XF? I love hearing other people's stories Grin

Gileswithachainsaw · 27/01/2016 07:16

ghosts etc have always been an interest of mine so when.a friend told me about this show she watched I watched and was booked.

for 9 years once a week I had like minded "friends" and didn't feel so odd one out

Gileswithachainsaw · 27/01/2016 07:18

I was at secondary day school. had already been watching any horror film I could which wasn't many as I had to wait fir the right curcumstances to occur but safe to say by 13/14 when it came out it was right up my street Grin

VashtaNerada · 27/01/2016 07:38

First ep I saw was Irresistible, I'd assumed XF was rubbish up until that point and was channel-flicking but kept coming back to that channel! Watched every episode since.
As I've said to Giles before, as an atheist I'm an even bigger sceptic than Scully! Shows what a broad appeal it has.
How about you?

OP posts:
rainingsleepingbags · 27/01/2016 08:54

All your stories are giving me the warm fuzzies!

I was eleven and into supernatural stuff, especially telekinesis, saw the ad for Shadows and fell massively in love. I remember standing up with my face a couple inches from the tv just enthralled. So, one of the crappiest eps got me hooked.

Vashta what an ep to start with!

I remember taping Ghost in the Machine which I think is just after Shadows, and absolutely losing my mind at the bit in the elevator when Mulder puts his arm around her and pulls her close to show her the print on his glasses. Actually maybe that wasn't Ghost in the Machine. Funnily enough I tend to skip that one when I rewatch Grin

Is anyone else feeling a little jarred or thrown off by the obvious exposition bits? Certain lines just keep throwing me out of the episodes. I hate to admit I'm struggling to really truly love it so far Sad

VashtaNerada · 27/01/2016 09:01

Felt slightly emotional taking DS to school today...

Agree the exposition is rubbish but it always is, it's terrible in the films: "Mulder, as you know I gave up a career in medicine for the FBI" ("uh yeah Scully, you tell me every fucking week" Confused)
It's like when they say "Scully are you are aware of Mr Blahblah?" "yes he's an eminent scientist working on the genome project with links to the Russian government" rather than just saying "yes".

OP posts:
VashtaNerada · 27/01/2016 09:04

I do really like it but it feels like no time has passed. Very odd that Scully just quits her job and rejoins the FBI with barely a mention! It's like they're trying to kid us it's still 1998.

OP posts:
rainingsleepingbags · 27/01/2016 09:51

My DTs start kinder tomorrow, I definitely got a bit sniffly with Scully and William on his first day!

I was just rewatching Founders Mutation tonight and Mulder has a line where he actually says to Scully:

"In 1973 the Syndicate was convened to assist in a project to colonise the world by creating alien-human hybrids. The project was ultimately unsuccessful, but I doubt they ever stopped trying."

And she stands there and listens like he's talking about something she's never heard of before Confused

They're spending so much time talking about this stuff like it's all new ideas to them, like they're shocked by the idea of the government experimenting on women and children with alien DNA and technology. But that was the crux of the entire nine years of the show! These ideas aren't new or shocking, M & S actually lived these things themselves. I think they're dumbing it down too much to be honest.

But then again, I'm only being so critical because I love it so much and I'm scared they're setting themselves up for criticism. I just want my show to be perfect so no-one can pick on it!
