I don't really know how tax credits and child benefit work, but how much would they get? Surely one bakery cannot support all those people, plus holidays, 16k weddings, new prams etc.

I wonder how much they get paid from channel 4?

howtorebuild · 11/12/2015 10:41

There was a lot in the press recently.

I think it's £80 per week per child in CTC and then thousands per parent in WTC, so tens of thousands in TC if they draw dividends and have low income.

howtorebuild · 11/12/2015 10:47

Just quickly based on ten children, both parents working 30hours each and earning £15,000 each is nearly £30,000 in tax credits alone.

AndNowItsSeven · 11/12/2015 10:52

How to rebuild that is not true change of circumstances will not affect tax credit claims for two children only. Unless rules have been changed since the Autumn budget if so please can you link.

yankeecandle4 · 11/12/2015 11:05

I wish they would publish their true income. I hate all of the DM/The Sun "They still refuse to accept benefits" rubbish. I don't care what they are taking, but just wish they would own up instead of trying to "set the example" for everyone else. There is no way they are not getting CTC/WTC. The latest figure given was that the bakery makes £30k per annum. There is no way that meager figure is supporting their lifestyle.

LibrariesgaveusP0wer · 11/12/2015 11:06

I was really uneasy about the sections of the programme dealing with the loss of Alfie too. I really didn't feel that it was an appropriate approach with the younger children to be going on weekly visits to the grave. Whilst, as adults, of course one will grieve a baby lost at 5 months, to those young children it was all rather abstract and their reaction would often be rather different. I felt it was almost forcing an adult level of grief onto them.

I also felt that the two middle names and the rainbow blanket and things were a lot of pressure to place on Hallie as she grows up.

fuzzpig · 11/12/2015 11:09

Wondered when there'd be a new episode, thanks for this thread.

MaryPoppinsPenguins · 11/12/2015 11:11

Do channel 4 pay them? They must, surely?

howtorebuild · 11/12/2015 11:14

I may be misunderstanding TC, can you please link to the article your working from?

Ch4 fee may go into a trust fund for the dc.

howtorebuild · 11/12/2015 11:15

You're

EssentialHummus · 11/12/2015 11:15

All those scenes of Paul and the kids cooking dinner from scratch every night... why aren't they eating more pies?

And fresh bread etc for breakfast?

MaryPoppinsPenguins · 11/12/2015 11:23

It is frustrating that they constantly preach that they don't take benefits. They clearly do.

And I'm sure Sophie does.

In other news, how accommodating was the hotel manager about the wedding?

SpendSpendSpend · 11/12/2015 11:42

I find this programme interesting.

I would love to know what the bathtime routine is like. I bet every child does not get bathed more than once every 5 days.

YakTriangle · 11/12/2015 11:56

I think they seem like a very sweet family. I did notice all the brand name products too though, no idea if that was because they were being filmed or if they will literally only eat Kellogg's cereals and use Fairy liquid or whatever, but they're crazy if they don't try to save money on groceries by buying supermarket own brands.
I thought I had misheard the £16k wedding budget too Shock

squoosh · 11/12/2015 12:08

How many programmes do they make about this family?

They're addicted to having babies. We get it!

JustRosieHere · 11/12/2015 12:18

I wonder how they manage to sit and do homework with them? I seriously struggle with one! Also do the kids get to enjoy clubs or hobbies? I would suspect she comes across immature because she has done nothing but have babies since 14. When has she had chance to grow up.

Clearly the bakery doesn't fund then completely. They are on tv at least once a year, they have a blog with advertising and I saw them in an online advert for EE.

BertieBotts · 11/12/2015 12:25

I thought this was the Duggar programme, but apparently not? Sounds like a similar sort of belief system/lifestyle, though... makes me a bit uneasy TBH.

squoosh · 11/12/2015 12:26

They're not religious like the Duggars as far as I can tell. Just obsessed with having babies.

yankeecandle4 · 11/12/2015 12:37

No they aren't religious (well their reproduction doesn't have any religious motive).

Spend apparently they bath the younger kids every night. Two progs ago they showed how Noel and Sue put three or four in together, give them a quick dunk and then put them in bed which is much more than mine get bathed.

findingmyfeet12 · 11/12/2015 12:40

I don't have access to uk tv but I found a programme about them on YouTube - I think it was an old one.

The second daughter left for university and ended up coming back home. I can't put my finger on anything but I got the impression that maybe she wasn't equipped for life away from the family as its all she's ever known. I too question the opportunities they've had to pursue hobbies and interests.

The oldest daughter had moved out and seemed to visit her mother every day. Whilst that is a nice thing for her mother I can't imagine doing that myself.

MumOfGorgeousness · 11/12/2015 12:44

I absolutely, could. not. cope.

Not having 10 minutes to myself a day would be too detrimental to my own health and mental state, I couldn't do it. What about Christmas? I struggle to coordinate and plan play attendance and all the other events with two children! Surely they wouldn't be able to go to them all?

I know some of the children are older now which clearly helps but I just couldn't...couldn't cope with the mayhem and noise all day every day.

Kids parties stress me out and I'm ready to leave after two hours!

BertieBotts · 11/12/2015 12:46

Ah right, have read up on them a bit now and they don't seem like the duggars, not really.

Interesting. Not in UK and probably won't jump through hoops just to watch, anyway.

Whatdoidohelp · 11/12/2015 12:50

Both sue and Noel were adopted. When they met sue fell pregnant very quickly at a very young age. I think with their own issues with being adopted it has made then see every child as a miracle. It's sad.

YakTriangle · 11/12/2015 13:27

The show about the Duggars was cancelled due to the revelations about Josh.
It is unusual for a family to be that big without it being a 'leaving the size of our family up to God' thing.

seasidesally · 11/12/2015 13:59

their addicted to baby's and the attention these programmes have produced

and to the poster that said if anything happened to Noel they would be stuffed, they wouldnt though not financially anyway, plenty of TC and child benefit would be coming in and if taken ill or disabled ESA,pip i dont think it would be a massive differrence

if a physical disability the basics would be difficult but they would pobably get help from SS with that amount of children

and im sure some will disagree but i hoped to god that if that happened that they would not even consider having more children in that circumstance

if either one passed away then i agree things would be pretty difficult to say the least

i wonder if they have thought and planned for this,i worry about mine if similar happened as im the only living parent and i only have 3

basically i think they are a massive drain on many many resources
