They make me shudder, he should have been prosecuted and the first baby taken away. There was some woman on the news the other day who'd had 16 babies taken away from her each one at birth. Dear god it's so unfair that some people struggle to conceive or can't have children at all and these two are just churning them out like a puppy farm grrrr....

TrashPanda · 16/12/2015 13:34

Not sure if it has been mentioned but the volume of washing will be higher because all kids in nappies are in reusables to save money.

VegetablEsoup · 16/12/2015 13:40

less than 200? per month more realistic...

VagueIdeas · 16/12/2015 14:58

We pay no where near that amount, despite running an industrial washer/drier 9 times a day. Try switching off lights when you leave a room, that will really help.

Pull the other one! Industrial washer/dryer doing nine loads a day, a ten bedroom former care home, and turning the odd light off keeps their bill low? Nonsense!

I was also Hmm at five dogs. Fifteen kids (I think that's right?) and five dogs at home? Why would you do that? Why would you make a busy, noisy, chaotic house SO MUCH busier, more noisy and chaotic with the addition of so many dogs?

Lots of question marks there Grin

The other thing that got me (caught up watching yesterday) was Sophie saying that she definitely wasn't having any more kids. Apart from the surprise third baby at 21. With 20+ years of fertility ahead of her, I can see more surprises in her future unless either she or her husband get sterilised.

SantasLittleMonkeyButler · 16/12/2015 15:06

thisis why should the first baby have been taken away?

I understand your comment about prosecution as Sue was just 14, but she should still have been allowed the chance to look after her own baby surely? The older children all seem to be nice, happy people.

howtorebuild · 16/12/2015 15:09

That's probably why they were adopted. In 1970 & 1975 a teen pregnancy wouldn't be accepted easily

BloodyDogHairs · 16/12/2015 15:19

Here is what Sue answered to another question....she still never said how much they pay. I actually found it quite interesting reading their website....and checking out how much the pies cost Grin

They don't half come out with some shite

Gileswithachainsaw · 16/12/2015 16:33

perhaps that's how they save the money?

using the hot air they are full of to heat the house

BlueSmarties76 · 16/12/2015 16:36

I strongly suspect they are 'hoarding'. I think psychologists usually use 7 as an arbitrary cut off point for what might be considered a problem. I'd be surprised if there weren't unresolved psychological issues with 18 kids and 5 dogs.

IF they are 'raking in' benefits then I do object to that, however I also worry for their children as although they seem to meet the kids physical needs reasonably well I very much doubt it's possible to give 18 kids the emotional attention they deserve and the time for practical things like homework and activities etc. I'm 99% sure it would be impossible. Also, did they ever consider when TTC what would happen if a DC was disabled / had severe SEN?

It seems rather selfish to me to have that many DC unless you can afford to have for example a housekeeper, nanny, driver, tutor etc and ideally 1 SAHP and one on short hours. Only then could I imagine you could really devote a good amount of time to each DC.

We pay £80 for gas and electricity for a family of 5. Tv is rarely off when we're in

We have all inside lights on 24 houre a day except for mine an dhs room. We also have laptops, multiplr tvs always on, washing machine a few times a day. I have no idea how people are getting these massive figures from!

christmascracker2015 · 16/12/2015 17:05

I was also told by sky that we have an extremely high broadband use. I haven't dare ring back since!

MaryPoppinsPenguins · 16/12/2015 17:15

They're incredibly lucky actually that all their children seem to be free of any problems so far...

howtorebuild · 16/12/2015 17:18

I guess they fob off anything as "coming from a large family". I would hate to grow up with that boy who was hitting the others, no protection or consequences as there was nobody to see or hear.

IHaveBrilloHair · 16/12/2015 17:21

Are they free of problems though?
I'm Mum to one 14yr old, and although I saw it a few years back, it's only now I realise the extent and am pushing for an Aspergers assessment for her, it really is so subtle in many ways. It it's easy to miss it in one, how on earth would you spot it in eighteen?
I also see now just how much it does affect her, and not in a good way.
I also thought I was a bit nuts for having four cats.

Gileswithachainsaw · 16/12/2015 17:27

I don't even think sue would realise would she. as she appears to have difficulties herself. and the older ones probably do alot of the parenting and aren't in a place to notice either

tthisisgettingboring · 16/12/2015 17:41

Christmascracker ours is £175 per month (electricity). Both work from home so lots of lights, pcs, washing machine and dish washer going twice a day. Family of 5.

christmascracker2015 · 16/12/2015 17:52

Maybe it differs on area? I know our water here is expensive.

findingmyfeet12 · 16/12/2015 20:16

I mentioned before that I'm not sure they would notice if a child had difficulties.

If one of them had become withdrawn due to being bullied at school or by a sibling, I'm not sure they'd pick up on it.

BloodyDogHairs · 16/12/2015 20:49

One of the girl's (Millie I think) was being bullied a few months back, I follow Sophie Radford on FB and she made a ranty status about it.....that then led to every Tom, Dick and Harry chipping in with advice, in the end she posted screenshots of the messages Millie had been receiving and named the girls involved. I'm not sure if that rant would've helped the bullying or made it worse Tbh.

Hedgehogparty · 16/12/2015 22:18

I haven't watched this at all but I've read a bit about this family.

Car crash tv, publicising irresponsible behaviour.
I feel sorry for their children who presumably weren't asked if they wanted the publicity.

dolkapots · 17/12/2015 08:16

I can understand that they made the programmes, but what shocked me was when they did a pregnancy reveal in The Sun. Why would anyone who has any self respect would put their children's faces in that piece of tripe is beyond me. That made me think that they are quite desperate for the income (or attention?) Sue has said several times in the past that they don't want any more publicity as it has had a negative effect on their privacy and then they appear in Take a Break the next week

howtorebuild · 17/12/2015 08:49

Sue lies, she lies about publicity and lies about wanting more children.
