I'm worried about tomorrow now. I really like Scott, but he's up against the bloke with the glasses who I just haven't warmed too - too much like uber robot chef.

chocomochi · 16/12/2015 21:19

Yes. Love Monica's softer approach this year.

LOL to robo chef.

Thurlow · 16/12/2015 21:33

How weird - choc, I can see your message in the TIO preview but on this thread it's blank!

BobandKate0 · 16/12/2015 22:24

Can't say i was impressed with the tim kitchen's approach to the quenelle sorbet - do michelin diners really send the food back if its the wrong shape ?

Otherwise,at this stage of the bollocks,it doesn't seem very fair to have Dean compete 1:1,then the others 1:2 ,still better than the madness of iron chef ,i suppose.

Macaronipony · 17/12/2015 07:40

Agree bob, seemed so daft. Also, in one of the criticd rounds Marcus suggested one of the chefs should have got their quenelles of ice cream ready prior to service and frozen them on a tray to make it quicker. So surely not unusual to get it ready in advance rather than faffing at last minute (and who cares about the shape!?)

IHaveBrilloHair · 17/12/2015 08:13

My friend and I go to the Kitchin every three months, the food and service is amazing, totally perfect.

macnab · 17/12/2015 09:20

Every time we get to this part of the series, DH gets on the phone and starts googling the restaurant and their menu/prices etc. We have already put the previous night's restaurant on our list of places to eat when the DC leave home but last night, even before TK started destroying the contestants, we had decided that we wouldn't fancy going there! The menu is definitely not to our taste, and its pricey (obviously) But I have to say, even if the menu appealed and we had the money to eat there every night I wouldn't darken his door after the way he treated those guys Shock Is there really any reason to be so horrible to your staff? I was on edge watching it, and felt so so bad for the chefs having to put up with such crap. I know exactly what I'd have done with that quenelle spoon Angry

Nick's food seemed amazing on the cook-off, but I am confused as to why 2 of them stayed?

Looking forward to tonight's show, and seeing what fantastic dishes I would never be able to create Smile

mollie123 · 17/12/2015 12:46

the chef on Tuesday night where there were the two nice lads in his michelan 1 star restaurant was so friendly and nice to them
I did cringe at how Tom whatshisname treated the 3 last night. Surely you can correct a mistake without being over the top Sad

Poppytime · 17/12/2015 12:49

Hello! Just caught up with yesterday's episodes. I think a lot of the top chefs are a bit like TK, I remember Marcus being on a few years ago and he was terrifying! I'm sure he is doing the judging role now to improve his image somewhat and make him seem more personable; you occasionally see glimpses of it when he is commenting on the food.

Looking forward to tonight's episode - also think it a bit unfair it was one on one then three of them with only one leaving...they don't really explain how they work it out/make the draws do they?

IHaveBrilloHair · 17/12/2015 13:07

I think it's for the show, TK will sign books, take customers on a tour of the kitchen, send out birthday cards to tables.
I emailed once and asked for a special menu, different to any we'd had before and they were happy to oblige.
The staff recognise us, and know we love unusual foods and that I'm a cheese fiend!
This is after 6 visits, each three months apart, we also don't look particularly like the type of people with loads to spend, because we aren't, and we only ever drink tap water, we are still made to feel exceptionally welcome.
I cannot recommend it enough.

IHaveBrilloHair · 17/12/2015 13:09

Oh, also, unlike many celebrity chefs he is in the kitchen most days, but leaves to do the school run.

GrouchyKiwi · 17/12/2015 13:57

Have you eaten in Martin Wishart, Brillo? We used to live across from there and Martin rented our car parking space for a few years. It was always nice seeing him with his children.

IHaveBrilloHair · 17/12/2015 14:02

I've eaten at the one at Cameron House, food was great, service was horribly snooty, I've never been back.

squoosh · 17/12/2015 15:39

Oh I'm sad (although unsurprised) that Darren was given the boot. What a sweetheart he is. I had an actual tear (the shame!) in my eye when Monica gave him a hug goodbye. I can't imagine she's free and easy with the hugs!

TK was a bit rude and barky to Darren I thought but I'm still going to pop across to The Kitchin for my lunch at some stage. Those soufflés!

I wanted to pet Danilo's tiny little head every time he got himself in a quenelle fluster.

Nick's pudding was beautiful. (as was Marcus)

squoosh · 17/12/2015 15:40

And how wonderful to still be Gregg free.

squoosh · 17/12/2015 15:42

And didn't we hear last series that a quenlle made with one spoon had a different name? They need to be consistent with their poncery!

Also it really shows how mauled your food is by various people before it makes it to your own gob. Not that that would put me off!

IHaveBrilloHair · 17/12/2015 15:57

The Kitchin has an open kitchen so you can see your food being prepared, there's never been any shouting when we've been either.
I promise I don't work for him, just think last night was done for show and is such an unrealistic representation.

squoosh · 17/12/2015 15:59

'I'm worried about tomorrow now. I really like Scott, but he's up against the bloke with the glasses who I just haven't warmed too - too much like uber robot chef.'

I haven't warmed to robot chef either Thurlow. Robot with a smattering of Adrian Mole. I suspect he might win though. He's very avant garde

Scott is one of my faves though so he'd better get through. I think the third taking part is the young Fred West. He seems nice but....... Fred West.

squoosh · 17/12/2015 15:59

Not that I'm suggesting he's a serial killer!

Thurlow · 17/12/2015 16:06
Grin

I think it's that he and his girlfriend are clearly entering loads of competitions and they are just so skilled and know what to do. Doesn't make for a good journey!

He could win it though, or Mark. I would have said Danilo or Nick were contenders but I don't think they were quite as good yesterday.

My guess for the final is Mark, Danilo, Nick, robochef and possibly Scott, though I suspect they haven't decided whether they are putting through one or two from tonight's round.

Then Mark or robochef to win.

IHaveBrilloHair · 17/12/2015 16:30

Haha, I think the narrator sounds sinister, almost as if he is talking about serial killers.
"Tonight Peter Sutcliffe will be serving lamb and honeycomb, whilst Harold Shipman perfects his quenelle"
Grin

squoosh · 17/12/2015 16:39
Grin

I would definitely watch that.

Sean Pertwee's voice does straddle both seductive and sinister.

Thurlow · 17/12/2015 16:40

The only problem with his voiceovers is that most of the time I can picture him, sitting in a booth with a cardigan and jeans on, glasses perched on the edge of his nose, reading the script out.

It's a little off putting sometimes.

iklboo · 17/12/2015 17:49

Sean Pertwee (soooooo like his dad it's scary) plays Alfred in Gotham. Blew DS's little mind.

chocomochi · 17/12/2015 20:04

Thurlow - that's odd. Wonder why that's happening?
