ITV’s six episode thriller series Unforgotten from former ITV drama executives Laura Mackie and Sally Haynes’ fledgling indie Mainstreet Pictures will premiere on Thursday October 8th at 9pm, it has been announced.

Penned by Undeniable scribe Chris Lang, Unforgotten tells the story of an 39 year old cold investigation into the murder of a boy who was killed in 1976. The modern day investigation is run by DCI Cassie Stuart and DI Sunil ‘Sunny’ Khan, who must re-examine the evidence and investigate the key suspects – Robert Greaves, Frank Philip Cross, Lizzie Wilton and Eric Slater – in order to close the case. The series utilises a multi-stranded narrative, set in different parts of the country, which explores and connects each of the principle characters.

The six-parter is produced by Mainstreet Pictures and features a large cast that includes Sanjeev Bhaskar (The Kumars), Nicola Walker (Last Tango In Halifax), Trevor Eve (Waking The Dead), Bernard Hill (The Grid), Ruth Sheen (Our Girl), Tom Courtenay (The Dresser), Gemma Jones (Marvellous), Brian Bovell (Death in Paradise), Cherie Lunghi (Casualty), Hannah Gordon (Hustle), Claire Goose (Mount Pleasant) Tamzin Malleson (Midsomer Murders), Peter Egan (Downton Abbey), and Frances Tomelty (Catastrophe). Ripper Street helmer Andy Wilson was the director.

whoever plays his wife is excellent.
they are all excellent admittedly.
very good TV

Goodbetterbest · 07/11/2015 18:19

I think Eric's wife killed Nicholas after catching them together and Eric disposed of the body to protect her. She doesn't remember her part in it, but remembers seeing him burying the body.

I've yet to come up with a theory on Jimmy's murdered. I don't think it was Frank, although his dodgy past has caught up with him.

NoahVale · 07/11/2015 19:45

Jo jo is definatelyy dodgy, "what proof have you got" about Jimmy and father robert having an altercation due to her sleeping with both of them which may have resulted in jimmy's death.
do we know the colour of Thea, presumably she is not jimmy's daughter, though it seems Jo told both men they were the father and she needed money for an abortion

quirkychick · 07/11/2015 20:46

Yy, I think they could definitely interview Jo-jo again!

cherryrednose · 08/11/2015 21:33

Avoided watching this at first as I thought it was going to be a paedophile storyline, now I've caught up and can't wait for the denoument! Think maybe people are on to something about Claire Slater, especially after the emphasis in the story on the way people change over time.

Did anyone else notice the memory flash that Father Greaves has when he thinks of Jimmy? He seems to be looking up at him and Jimmy looks very aggressive.

moreshitandnofuckingredemption · 08/11/2015 22:08

Maybe Claire Slater has killed men she's caught her husband with.
(I haven't bothered tying that to anything else, but sounds good, dunnit?)

cherryrednose · 08/11/2015 23:05

Perhaps Cassie will regret her promise to Jimmy's mother if it turns out Jimmy wasn't the gentle soul she knew?

LarrytheCucumber · 09/11/2015 10:28

Thanks sadwidow, do I need to register to view the images?

I am going to have to watch ep4 again as I think my TV froze at too many important bits. Have we met Thea or have an inclination of who she might be?

Couple of thoughts I've had...
Fr Rob is thoroughly unpleasant ...He seems the only of all the characters involved to have not changed and it is easy to see him being violent, manipulative or both: the snap in 2 retort really brought it home to me. He is a thoroughly nasty piece of work, always was and this is clear in the way he treats people around him, imposes his will and willingness to let wife take blame for his actions.

The others, especially lizzie and to a certain extent cross and slater, have all gone some way to distance/separate themselves from the people they were in the past or even reinvent themselves.

Thea is still 'supported' by him at 38... I think there must be more to this / maybe he has continued to abuse underage girls. but I can't figure out if Jojo is involved as return for his supporting Thea ...or if this is a plot too far Grin

quirkychick · 10/11/2015 07:17

Fr Rob's stealing and paying out seems to be more than supporting a child, he has not just paid maintenance out of what he earns he has stolen thousands when not really supporting his own family. It sounds more like blackmail payments than maintenance. I think he is still lying.

Goodbetterbest · 10/11/2015 16:09

I reckon they are keeping Thea under wraps - she'll be pivotal I reckon.

gingercat12 · 10/11/2015 17:50

I think you are right Goodbetterbest

Sweetsweetjane · 11/11/2015 08:28

Am I allowed to say, I think it was a bit 'cheap' for the writers to include a bank card on the second body? I was only a child in the seventies but were bank cards prevalent back then?
I just feel that as we near the end of the series, there wasn't enough time for them to go detecting a less obvious clue so they did a bit of research and came up with a bank card. I am a cynical old bint.

Also, please remind me, who is Cassie?

Sweetsweetjane · 11/11/2015 08:30

i am like the woman in Misery when she shouted 'you cockadoodies!' at the cinema screen at the children's matinee when the continuity was all wrong.

Floundering · 11/11/2015 08:47

They had a bankcards purely as ID proof, it had the strip on the back for your signature, no chip & not a debit card' , it survived because plastic doesn't rot like other materials if kept wrapped up as it was in his wallet.

fascicle · 11/11/2015 09:14

Sweetsweetjane
Cassie is DCI Cassie Stuart (Nicola Walker), leading the investigation. Like you, I thought the card was a bit convenient, given the era.

SuckingEggs · 11/11/2015 12:32

Loving this fantastic series. Hoping that the writer is busy penning series two!

I also reckon Thea will also be pivotal somehow.

Blondeshavemorefun · 11/11/2015 12:43

Was thea adopted?

Floundering · 11/11/2015 13:31

Bankcards were purely for proof of signature when writing a cheque before debit cards came in the late 70's

LarrytheCucumber · 11/11/2015 13:31

Hoping that the writer is busy penning series two! yes, as long as it is as good as this one. Broadchurch 2 was a big let down for me, and I wouldn't like that to happen again.

fascicle · 11/11/2015 17:08

Floundering They said the second victim's card had last been used in a pub in Hampstead. They then linked Slater to the area by finding a bank statement from 1978 showing he'd withdrawn £10 from a cash dispenser a few yards from the pub on the same date.

ihatethecold · 12/11/2015 16:38

I don't remember cash machines being around in the 80's never mind the 70's.

quirkychick · 12/11/2015 17:06

I thought the same but according to wiki, the first atm in the UK was in Enfield in June 1967. Maybe London had a few before they were elsewhere.
