I saw the one with Kylie as Kim's daughter again recently. Sending herself up as a spoof Charlene from Neighbours.
I love it. I want the whole lot on DVD.
But why are the two characters in the store funny? Where are those accents from?
And Kath's clothes - pure 80's along with bubble perm.

LOL! I'm a UK expat in Oz and I still don't quite get it all. We'll have to wait for a local to come along and explain it I think.

TheHighwayCod · 23/11/2006 12:38

i really dont find it funny
the sun sends them mad in oz

Gingerbear · 23/11/2006 13:07

ah yes Cod,
wonder if eids and Suzy will come along to retort?

I love it too gingerbear.

"hunk of spunk" "Kath Day-Night" "Eponee Ray" it's hilarious.

I think the key to how funny it is is how they all think they're so gorgeous and they're so not! Ignorant bliss

'hornbag' also an expression from Kath and Kim. Wasn't that a mumsnetter's name before she was embarrassed into changing it?

i love it!!

there's so many great one liners in every episode.

I like the fact that there are apparently common and posh accents im Australia as emphasised by the 2 grey women in the shop. Does anyone remember Sylvanian Waters (early 90s?), one of the first ever reality tv/flyon the wall shows, when they were still a novelty. I bet they draw on a lot of the pretensions in that, although noone in Kath and Kim is as foul as the mum in that programme.

yesterday, in 'The Warehouse' in Christchurch NZ, I heard a woman calling for her daughter 'Eppany, Eppany'. I was aghast.
I have heard some simlar accents here from ladies in shops just like the ones in Kath and Kim.

Gingerbear · 23/11/2006 19:38

lol at 'Eppany, Eppany'.
So are there Melbourne posh and common accents then?

Lol. Having spent a year in North Queensland we now find the accents on Neighbours to be terribly posh Oz .
