Please don't support this programme, it's really exploitative of people with mental illness and is so detrimental to the public perception of OCD.

I didn't make it through the episode either, thoroughly unpleasant on all sides.

I watch the odd one. But as soon as bleach lady appears I remember why I don't watch it regularly. I wish whe would pick something else as her crutch.

It's worth recognising that OCD-UK don't speak for all people with OCD. They choose to ignore that there are those of us out there with severe disabling OCD who find this programme actually helps us in some way.

As an aside, I find it interesting that it's those two who are speaking out against the show. There was debate online as to whether they were actually faking for the show because of some of their behaviour not really matching up to their description of their OCD (eg the daughter sitting on the pavement in the street putting her bare hands all over it despite apparently being petrified of contamination).

What is OCD-UK's complaint exactly? That statement is really unclear. It mentions 'welfare of those with OCD' - I can't see how this impacts on anyones welfare, can anyone explain what they mean? I can almost see their point about "fuelling misconceptions" apart from I disagree with it. The OCD sufferers frequently explain how their illness impacts on their lives. No one ever claims that all people with OCD "like cleaning". In fact the episode I'm just watching now, one of the participants explains that she doesn't like cleaning!

I noticed that not ONCE did Cordelia say thank you to them. She was utterly vile and I thought Hayley and the chap she was with were nothing but kind and patient even though their own stress levels must've been sky high!

I think they make it very clear in the programme that cleaning it's only part of some people's ocd.

did that Cordelia have a dirty face at the start of the the programme. truly ghastly about the lovely finishing touches they had applied to the hall.

I understand not liking the candles but there was nothing wrong with having flowers out especially as they were trying to target the wedding market. I doubt very much there will be any weddings there,can you imagine trying to deal with her?!

I felt really sorry for Hayley when she was explaining that she doesn't actually like cleaning. Cornelia just seemed to think she should be able to stop it if she doesn't enjoy it. No understanding of or empathy towards the psychological impact of her illness.

And it's never going to be a wedding venue if she can't cope with candles and flowers about the place.

It can't just be two cleaning these big stately homes can it? There must be a team of cleaners that help when the camera's stop rolling.

Does anyone else wish they had the swab thing that gives a reading of how clean something is

OCD-UK's complaint is that it fuels the stereotype of OCD just being about cleaning and liking cleaning because the show doesn't really elaborate on any other sides of OCD. It's a fair point for the first series I think but the show has evolved and has covered way more than that (like the reasons why some of them have OCD and how it affects their lives).

In terms of welfare though, the stereotype of "I like things clean I must have OCD teehee!" that gets spread around can mean people don't take people with OCD or the impact it can have on life very seriously (eg telling an employer gets it laughed off as liking a clean house when really you need support at work). But I don't agree with the programme contributing to that anymore! If anything, it'll probably get a few people out there seeing their doctor and getting help they didn't know they could get.

Maybe so, but OCD-UK are for people with OCD so that's what they focus on

I've been bullied by colleagues in the past because how on earth could my liking clean things mean I was physically unable to do a work placement? Except it's not just liking clean things. It's that kind of stuff really they are concerned about. They worry programmes like OCC contribute to this being more widespread.

I bet she ABSOLUTELY HUMMED. What I don't understand is...That Haley woman touched her coat when she met her, like actually picked her arm up, I don't have OCD but I wouldn't have picked her arm up even if I had asbestos gloves and a gas mask on!

Jo,I thought most of Hayley and other chap's responses were perfectly valid tbh. I would've run from there in a fit of the vapours
