Anyone watching this? It passed me by when it was on originally (in fact, when WAS it on?) but I've watched the first two and love it. Properly smouldering.

Grin fraggle

MyVisionsComeFromSoup · 02/07/2015 18:02

saw the Crucible live - RA was fantastic in it Grin. And [name drop alert] Jude Law who we were sitting next to, also thought the same - he was one of the first in the standing ovation.

That scene in N&S where JT says "look back, look back at me" does all sorts to my insides Wink

WhoreGasm · 02/07/2015 18:32

Ohh 'Look back at me...look back at me' [thud]

Margaret is a po faced piece of work though. The sort that would be be 'indisposed' whenever poor John fancied a bit of action instead if jumping his bones and licking his chest like any normal woman

WhoreGasm · 02/07/2015 18:38

Quite agree fraggle. We all know that child mortality was very high amongst the Victorian working class. Doesn't mean we want to see them barging up a lung though.

What we actually wanted to see was more bonnets and John Thornton striding about in tight breeches and shirtless for much of the time. It can't have been that hard for the writer to work in a slight adaptation.

After all it must have got very hot in t' mill so it stands to reason Thornton might have often taken his jacket and shirt off, yes?

MyVisionsComeFromSoup · 02/07/2015 19:53

I think shirt on actually - as much as I can't stand the end scene where he's taken off his cravat as being unauthentic, he does do a good billowey shirt.

Thurlow · 02/07/2015 20:39

Dear christ, look back at me is possibly the single hottest thing that has ever been put on screen...

WhoreGasm · 02/07/2015 22:05

Hotter than a very hot thing on a particularly hot day.

snozzlemaid · 02/07/2015 22:13

I need to watch this again now.

Think this works - enjoy Smile

RiverTam · 03/07/2015 10:41

I think this is going to be today's hangover viewing.

WhoreGasm · 03/07/2015 10:44

Oh I could do such bad, baaaaad things to Richard Armitage. I think some of them might actually be illegal Hmm

RiverTam · 03/07/2015 11:17

Also Brendan Coyle is very good in this, he's wasted in Downton.

OnlyLovers · 03/07/2015 11:36

Is 'Look back... look back at me' in Episode 3 or 4? Iv'e still only watched the first two and don't remember it.

OP posts:
Thurlow · 03/07/2015 11:56

I think it must be episode 4.

Duckdeamon · 03/07/2015 15:04

I disagree with PP and liked Danielle Denby Ashe, think she was good in it. Although Margaret is meant to be tall and dark - they should've phoned me! Understudy maybe for a little light rehearsal or five of the train station scene.

OnlyLovers · 03/07/2015 16:16

I like her too, but I haven't read the book so don't know how she's 'supposed' to be.

OP posts:
Twinklestein · 03/07/2015 16:28

Not watching now, but I've seen it before.

I don't know why they mess about with the story at the end, it makes it worse rather than better.

I imagined Thornton to be much better looking than RA, but he's a good actor he just about pulls it off. I thought the actress who played Margaret was rather wet.

LamppostInWinter · 03/07/2015 16:36

I'd like a word with the costume department about that hat they insist on putting Margaret in. It makes her face look squat!

RiverTam · 03/07/2015 16:45

The hat like a flying saucer? Bonkers. Just watched the first 2 episodes today, bliss. I love his preposterous sister Fanny.

Duck my shape, height and general hairiness make me more suited to be Mrs Thorin, and much as he is a very sexy dwarf, I wouldn't fancy being hitched to him. Though I'm not sure I really would fancy being married to John, either, he's so mardy and northern. I'd settle for jumping his bones.

FraggleHair · 03/07/2015 16:59

Margaret is a po faced piece of work though. The sort that would be be 'indisposed' whenever poor John fancied a bit of action

God yes. She would have said things like 'let us read from Fordyce's Sermons for 7 hours and quell those lusty thoughts which are no doubt a result of your unfortunate working class roots'.

Poor Mr Thornton would have been forced to seek refuge in the arms of Friendly Fanny, a buxom barmaid/harlot who served tankards of ale and acres of cleavage down The Clap and Cock.

RiverTam · 03/07/2015 18:22

I'm pretty sure there's John and Margaret wedding night fanfiction out there. I'm sure he ignited her or somesuch.

CremeBrulee · 03/07/2015 18:31

I'm confused - is this the 80s miniseries with Patrick Swayze as Orrie set in the American civil war period??

RiverTam · 03/07/2015 18:34

Errr, obviously not!

Twinklestein · 03/07/2015 18:47

"Why if it ain't Billy Hazzard, what a surprise".

No, wrong North and South.
