Andy Roddick in the Guardian today - apparently he will commentate for the BBC, that should be interesting Hmm

Mama1980 · 27/06/2015 20:42

Congrats magi on the new grandchild :) wonderful news Thanks
Just checking in, things are organised chaos here without the organisation so thinking my chances of seeing much tennis are slim but I'll try Smile
Ds1 is super excited and has booked his elder sisters iPad for the highlight show every night.

LeprechaunsAndUnicorns · 27/06/2015 20:51

I have to join. I bloody Wimbledon it's my fave part of the year besides Xmas.

I need to have a mini rant about commentators. Yes Castle is a bit of a numpty but at least him and Henman et al are very enthusiastic, and have a bit of banter. I really REALLY hope and pray that Sam Smith and that Cotter bloke are not commentating. They are so bloody dull and seem so unenthusiastic. Smiths voice really grates on me. I watched Eastbourne this week with them commentating and omg it was like they were reading a eulogyHmm

However, I will miss McEnroe s commentary of his mentions of Del Potro from a few years ago. Now that was hilarious! !Grin

Two more sleeps. Vamos!!!Grin

PunkrockerGirl · 27/06/2015 21:02

I am so excited. Going through a very rough time at the moment but this fortnight is mine and I don't give a shit about anyone else
both dc are adults.

LeprechaunsAndUnicorns

yy- Del Pow-trow was funny. I miss Del Potro more than I will miss Mac, though Grin

Listening to Frew McMillan at Nottingham reminded me how dull he is to listen to. Not so bad on the radio though, bizarrely. ConfusedGrin

PunkrockerGirl · 27/06/2015 21:08

I only found out yesterday about Bob Hewitt Confused
behind the times

Just can't wait. Too excited to sleep.
Life long John McEnroe fan. Huge Andy Murray fan.

magimedi · 27/06/2015 22:36

I actually like Cotter as a commentator - he sticks to tennis & is not up his own arse.

Will be v interested to hear Roddick commentating.

BRING ON MONDAY!!!

HarveySchlumpfenburger · 28/06/2015 10:38

Congratulations magi Flowers

Only one more sleep to go now. Hurry up Wimbledon.

LeprechaunsAndUnicorns · 28/06/2015 11:05

I just can't wait to hear THAT theme tune!!Grin Grin

Raahh · 28/06/2015 11:22

I dreamt about Wimbledon last night, only for some reason matches were being played in a theme park. And it was all very muddy.

Oh no Ferrer has pulled out due to an elbow injury Shock

Raahh · 28/06/2015 14:02

Sad Sad Sad

ferrer is my second favourite player.

good news for James WArd though, Isupoose.

HenriettaTurkey · 28/06/2015 14:19

What happens if they pull out the day before the tournament? Does a lucky loser get his place, or does James Ward get a bye?

HenriettaTurkey · 28/06/2015 14:23

Ah, this: Eighth seed David Ferrer has pulled out of Wimbledon with an elbow injury.
He was set to play Britain's James Ward, 28, in the first round, but will be replaced by Italy's lucky loser from qualifying, Luca Vanni.

World number seven Ferrer, 33, reached the quarter-finals at SW19 in 2013.

Ferrer's exit opens up the draw for Rafael Nadal, who could have faced his fellow Spaniard in the fourth round, with a potential quarter-final against Britain's Andy Murray for the winner.

HeartsTrumpDiamonds · 28/06/2015 14:29

Too bad about Ferrer.

Will be watching Eugenie Bouchard with interest. (Canadian connection of course!) Did you know that she and her twin sister Beatrice were named after the Princesses of York? Poor girl has pretty much fallen apart since last year's final.

Our nanny is the world's biggest Djokovic fan so that will be interesting. Grin

trixymalixy · 28/06/2015 15:04

Looking forward to tomorrow! I just hope we will be able to get some coverage here in Spain.

For the second year running I had Wimbledon tickets within my grasp only to have them whipped away. The tennis club made a mistake with the ballot and the tickets I had been allocated were for a date I am on holiday even though I'd only applied for dates I could go Sad. They've promised me first pick of the tickets next year as it was their mistake. My 40th is in Wimbledon fortnight next year so I AM going to Wimbledon even if I have to buy hospitality tickets!!

Raahh · 28/06/2015 15:07

I have to admit I am not a fan of Bouchard. She seems very difficult .

I remember reading about her and her sister. Do her parents realise they have named their girls after 2 of possibly the most vilified Royals?.Grin

I hope David's injury is not too serious. I really like to watch Ferrer.Sad

Raahh · 28/06/2015 15:10

trixy that is rubbish. You would think they could get it right after all this time.

No doubt the likes of Jeremy Clarkson and various members of One Direction will manage to get tickets without a problem !Angry

Raahh · 28/06/2015 15:14

iirc, Bouchard's other siblings are William and Charlotte.

Very RoyalGrin Grin

LeprechaunsAndUnicorns · 28/06/2015 15:25

Not a fan of Bouchard here either. Bet shes a bit of a diva. Talking of divas, do we think Serena will be "ill" this tournament?

Raahh · 28/06/2015 15:26

So I have been checking the order of play, and planning my day. School runs permittingAngry .

Some really interesting matches for a first day. I have everything crossed for Konta. And to see how Stan does without his shorts.

He will be wearing shorts (presumably) , just not the patterned onesGrin

I want Bolelli to beat Nishikori and am interested to see how Kyrgios gets on, and if he is in a better mood than he was at Queen's. He is my tip for an early upset, I think.
