woof truly brilliant, hillarous, side splitting! Another instalment pls!!!!

orphan · 29/04/2015 22:40

woof I don't know what your current occupation is or indeed if you are at large in the community or detained in a high security unit but I do think you should hotfoot it to the BBC and offer your services as Head of Comedy.

Ilovelblue · 29/04/2015 22:44

Just back from a late night shopping evening with a friend I used to work with. Got a bit fed up as she did nothing but whinge about her various relatives and I barely got a word in edgeways. Thought I'd have a quick look on here and didn't think there'd be much going on, given how quiet it was last night and then I read woof's Poldark/CJ chapter. OMG, it was hilarious!!! It really cheered me up after the less than successful evening (though I did get a nice dress reduced from £85 to £31). It might have to come up to Edinburgh next week.

SoEverybodyDance · 29/04/2015 22:53

Yes, woof he was a bit unwilling to take them off at that point because the barnicle's on Orphan's boulder were snapping aggressively and he knows all about her penchant for an audible 'snack'

I'll get him to oblige after your next chapter...

cjwoofwoof · 29/04/2015 22:53

ooh thank you everyone for liking my silly story which is uncannily like my RL at the moment ie. hormonally obsessed with fictional captains whilst slacking with everything else in RL. Don't know how you worked out it was me coz I hardly mention Poldark or CJ on this thread...

Liking those pics Dance but feel as short changed as Demelza that we're too far away to see any full on in your face details, mores the pity. Got any binoculars?

SoEverybodyDance · 29/04/2015 22:53

sorry, 'crack'

Rhubarb01 · 29/04/2015 22:54

Woof loved it. Laughed out loud but also had a virtual tear in my eye at your sad little description of real life menopausal women - sniff! Hope you can write more when you've time. I'm sure there's plenty more where that came from and plenty more material to be found.

On another subject, someone mentioned in the week the new WWII drama starting on ITV on Sunday and when I had a look at the Radio Times write-up I noticed that the editor who constantly swooned over and wrote about AT and Poldark all the time is the same one who was sniffy and negative about OG and is now also bashing Home Fires before it starts, describing it as stereotypical and cliche-ridden. It's a shame that every time a drama that features women and in this case women of a certain age (all over 40) it seems to get derided (she also made mention of The Crimson Field again and said it reduced WW1 nurses experiences to a bath of soap suds). For some reason this drama isn't deep and meaningful enough but apparently that wasn't a problem with Poldark. It seems as if lots of cliched brooding shots of him looking out to sea and being troubled by greedy swines of bankers amounts to emotional complexity! Nothing at all to do with him scything shirtless, then? - Just call me Germaine in future!

P.S. Thanks for the comments on the story. Fingers crossed it works out OK!

SoEverybodyDance · 29/04/2015 22:56

Here's the bigger version but sadly no full frontal this time Woof...

Sorry to drop CJ back rather late Nickel - were you panicking! Had a lovely evening although going to a pub with such low lighting backfired as I could barely see him! He asked how long his extended holiday/tour was going to last, he looked rather tired, but my lips were sealed - not saying where!

Ilovelblue · 29/04/2015 23:00

BK/Richtea The tour has sort of deviated slightly so the revised schedule is:

Nickel until Friday
Richtea gets CJ until next Wednesday morning
then he comes to me Wednesday night and we go to Edinburgh on Thursday
Friday afternoon Richtea and orphan get to do the kilt measuring
Saturday morning he goes to Jen for the wedding
Sunday 10th he goes to Lola (note: she's quiet, do we think she's on holiday as she said she wanted him after 7 May)
So far, Nipper is then last on the list

Unless there are any lurkers who want to try their luck....?

orphan · 29/04/2015 23:10

Am dreadfully behind on the ff but have just read your new one rhubarb and loved it of course! I can see the longish distance relationship may be tricky...

As for Poldark, I enjoyed it but it was full of clichés and I think the acclaim is over the top. I wouldn't have been devastated if they hadn't announced a second series. Although Prudey would have marched to Broadcasting House and flung her award winning pasties through the director general's office window in protest.

Richtea19 · 29/04/2015 23:11

rhubarb it was me that mentioned the new WWWII drama, as the moment I saw the clip I thought of your suburb FF. Wellnthe editor got it totally wrong with OG and most likely will with this new one. I thought it looked excellent, but hey I'm a middle aged menopausal women :)

cjwoofwoof · 29/04/2015 23:30

Think I prefer an 'audible snack' to 'crack' actually Dance - creates more scenarios in my head for obvious reasons. Can I order a front view close-up photo of the Captains the next time you fancy a dip with them, but please make sure they've got their flip flops in case Orphan brings out the big guns and goes for the full seaweed strewn sea wall look. With Russell Grant helping her with her chain stitch anything's possible.

I agree with Rhu and Richtea Home Fires looks like it might be pretty good and give us more of the 'women left behind' viewpoint.

orphan · 29/04/2015 23:43

Wycombe your choice of low level lighting pub was a godsend for me. Don't suppose you took notice of the rather chunky table CJ put his beer and bag of nuts on? To be honest I didn't have to do much in terms of disguise as my own pins bear a startling resemblance to table legs.

Rhubarb01 · 29/04/2015 23:47

Apparently Home Fires is based on a factual book called 'Jambusters' about the WI in WW2 so maybe it isn't a case of stereotyping. Perhaps women really were like that back then. As I recall Housewife 49 (much repeated) is based on real life and about a plucky northern lady who has to mix with posh WI types in WW2 and they all pull together to help win the war.

Why do the channels, particularly the BBC, have to keep trying to tell us what we ought to like instead of listening to us about what we actually DO like? I agree with you Orphan I liked the new Poldark but I think the original series which I saw as a kid probably followed the story more faithfully and in much more detail over a much longer period. I've got some box sets of old dramas when people like the BBC would commission 12 or 14 episodes and they really took more time and care in retelling of stories and didn't treat viewers as idiots who can't concentrate on a subject or scene for more than thirty seconds without needing action or dramatic music. - crash bang wallop - I've just fallen off my soap box and twisted my ankle!

Going back to Poldark I will be curious to see how in this PC age the writers handle a scene later in the story, possibly in series 2, in which Ross does not behave very well. I will not give any spoilers here but I wouldn't be surprised if it's omitted or altered.

BK28 · 29/04/2015 23:55

woof just got back from one of those Scouty meetings and picked up on your ff museings, what can I say you have obviously put in as much energy into drawing our wittering together as you do creating your disguises. Fantastic thanks for the hearty laugh, just what I needed after a really shit day in the real world! Oh by the way there is nothing wrong with being a menopausal lady...it is a really useful excuse for most things including the need for fantasy!!!

Ilovelblue · 30/04/2015 07:33

Can certainly go along with being a menopausal woman. Had the worst ever period pains yesterday, not having had one for over eight months. Had hoped that was going to be the end of them but no! None of the painkillers even came close to easing the pain. Felt sooooo sorry for myself.

icemistOBE · 30/04/2015 07:34

Morning

Just read back last nights posts, still laughing. Will read woof FF again later as was so funny.

Morning all. Thanks ice!

woof, you have created one epic piece of ff, but the problem is that we will all now harass you for more! It's hilarious, thanks for writing it.

Have to agree that the audible snack opens up a whole new world of possibilities...

BK28 · 30/04/2015 08:11

ilove real feel your pain, as well as your frustration...you think they are over and then get a surprise one aagh!!!

Ilovelblue · 30/04/2015 08:25

Thanks BK. I would have come home really if I hadn't arranged to go out straight after work but felt very weary and a bit bad tempered. At least most (male) colleagues sensed it was better to give me a wide berth!

orphan · 30/04/2015 08:41

Had to reread Woof's masterpiece again this morning. Certainly brightens up the morning.

rhubarb I think I know which event you're referring to re Poldark. It will be interesting how they tackle it -they can't risk a backlash against Ross. I think they'll put a 'soft spin' on it.

orphan · 30/04/2015 08:45

Next time Rupert pops in I'll suggest we try the audible snack. I have a feeling he may be more up for that, so to speak, than the audible crack. Less chance of the need for heavy duty duct tape.

mummyreeds · 30/04/2015 09:31

CJ Woof can I just echo the others on how brilliant your FF piece was, you have certainly a great comic talent there!

Nickel thanks for the tips on Devon, it is me, hubby and son who is 9, so need somewhere that is child friendly. Can't believe how we decided our holiday destination, chose 6 places in British Isles, numbered them and then rolled a dice!! Is anybody else's family as crazy as ours??

Haven't got definite start date for work yet, could be 18th or 25th May, not great timing as DS starts 2 weeks holiday on 25th and has never done after school club, holiday club etc. In his life! Plus job was advertised at 21 hours and now they are talking 30 hours!! Will be quite a shock to my system!

cjwoofwoof · 30/04/2015 10:21

Morning! Got some ideas floating in my nut for a chapter two of my debut ff but we're away over BH so it might be next week before I can finish it.

ilove poor you, just when you think you're shot of the monthly curse up pops a painful one. Still, gives you a good excuse for growling at male colleagues and getting away with it.

I'm liking the idea of a soft spin with Poldark orph - I didn't realize he could do the twirly finger thing the same as CJ, thanks for the heads up Grin
