I'm sick of the sight of him now. The sofa always shuffles away from him as well.

Not a real person? So despite his taking part in anti-austerity protests, speaking at "Occupy Wall Street". Marching with the hacker collective Anonymous. Organising the “sleepover” protest at an occupied housing estate in north London after residents (mostly single mums) who were moved out to make way for a housing redevelopment. Going down to that estate and actually listening to people and brining the media with him. (in a way that our so called leaders wouldn't dream of doing unless there were a few votes in it). Brand said - " It's been all about greedy landlords jacking up rents, inefficient authorities doing Fuck all to stop them".. Do you suppose those he helped are wishing he'd stuck to telling jokes on stage? How about guest-editing the New Statesman... All of the above, the work of a caricature?

suzannecallmestan · 01/04/2015 09:27

Yeah, when I see him on the telly he always strikes me as being a caricature

Bambambini · 01/04/2015 10:11

I had heard and read about how politically inspiring and intelligent he was. Setting people alight with his eloquence and passion. Then I actually watched him and thought WTF!

He was hilarious in Sarah Marshall though, give him that, "inside you... tra la la..."

Panzee · 01/04/2015 11:25

Ooh, we've got a fan in our midst. Viva la revolución, comrade! ;)

VikingVolva · 01/04/2015 11:32

It never occurred to me to associate extent of vocabulary with class. Nor to think that cleverness, or absence of it, is associated with class either.

And why bring class into it anyhow?

Bambambini · 01/04/2015 15:23

I'm from a working class council estate ex mining village. I can't see him bonding with the locals down the pub over a pint. They'd probably think he was a knob. So much for one of the people.

But of course everyone who thinks he is a bit of a hyper annoying, loud pretentious, out of his death knob must be middle/ upper class Oxbridge educated braying "let them eat cake" fox hunting yahoo Henrys.

sourdrawers · 01/04/2015 16:48

Panzee. I think you'll find that Brand articulates a strain of thinking among a growing number of people, particularly young people. However much people like you mock and patronise.. I was going to make a point about apathy but you've just made it for me, beautifully. How utterly frivolous and narcissistic of Brand to speak out and act on his empathy for victims of corporate greed? Oh well, If that makes him and anyone who agrees with him a joke in your eyes, then he'll /we'll just have to try and live with it I suppose... S'gonna be tough though!

The reason I raised his class was because Viking remarked in a dismissive and patronising way that he had poor command of language. Not like what clever people do...

Bambambini · 01/04/2015 17:29

If Brand is so serious about this corporate greed, why doesn't he give away his millions and live down with the common people? Or doesn't it apply to him?

you really have the hots for him something terrible, can be the only explanation - unless you are his mum.

sourdrawers · 01/04/2015 17:33

Bambambini How about if 93 families in your ex mining village were facing eviction from their homes (say to make way for a supermarket) and Brand used his profile to help them and to stop it happening with street protests and petitioning Downing St, getting it on the national news etc.. And by doing all that, saved those 93 families from being evicted, as he did for the all those families at the New Era Estate in East London?

Would he still be just "a knob" to them?

sourdrawers · 01/04/2015 17:36

Bambini I've got the hots for him?? Come on, you can do better than that surely?

Panzee · 01/04/2015 18:00

He missed Occupy London because he was in a corporate box at West Ham...
