I must say I was surprised at some of the best places esp no 9 !! best places to live

QuootieSpookypie · 27/10/2006 10:33

saw abit of it...

expatinscotland · 27/10/2006 10:35

I had to turn it off b/c Kirsty's sister was so annoying her voice was giving me heartburn.

Besides, I can't be bothered w/an hour-long diatribe on how great the SouthEast is.

UnquietDad · 27/10/2006 10:38

So Harrogate's the only one in the north of England. Quelle fecking surprise. And Winchester?? Didn't that come in the top 10 of the "Crap Towns" book?

MadameMorticiaMills · 27/10/2006 10:41

Can't believe Middlesbrough didn't get plus points for being the home of the Parmo.

Didn't even warrant a mention

KoshkaTheFIENDLYGhost · 27/10/2006 10:42

what? harrogates nice and stuff....but for me its a pile of shite to live here!
nothing to do, cant afford to rent, so will probably have to move to north leeds away from all my family, and about 60 million ma hoosive cars so the streets are even narrower than they should be!

incy · 27/10/2006 10:42

I live near Winchester and I wouldn't want to live there....

Of course, any opportunity they can get to slag off Scotland or Northern Ireland they're more than happy to take, except when it comes to making it out to be Brig O'Doon.

[rolls eyes]

I laughed my arse off at the shots of Strabane, how they chose to air stills of grafitti such as 'Republicans Are Not Criminals' and a road sign for Londonderry w/the London spray-painted out.

Sorry, but I find Phil and Kirsty barely tolerable as it is. Those accents sound like nails on a chalkboard to me.

And Kirsty's sister just tipped the scales for me.

She's cringeworthy.

I literally couldn't watch.

KoshkaTheFIENDLYGhost · 27/10/2006 10:46

just watched the clips, and the one in harrogate, he walks down past a bit of grass saying its a bit oldy-worldy....PMSL!!

if he went there evening time there would be about 100 emo freaks trying to get alcohol from the bluesbar smoiking dope and scaring old ladies.

and the nightlife in harrogate is really bad, thats were most of the crime is! hehehe

sorry...

northerner · 27/10/2006 10:48

I live in Harroagate and it's lovely. I love it.

NothingButAttitudeOnMN · 27/10/2006 10:49

It just made me realise that anyone who buys property in London is bloody stupid, it appeared twice in the worst list and yet house prices are still way way way above average.

How thick are people who keep buying there.

KoshkaTheFIENDLYGhost · 27/10/2006 10:50

it is nice northener, but i just cant afford to live here!

southeastastra · 27/10/2006 10:52

who's knocking the southeast!! my town is on the 'chav town' list and i'm very proud of that

incy · 27/10/2006 10:54

Eastleigh is on the chav town list yet came in at number 9 - perhaps that was the criteria this year...

OP posts:
hunkermunker · 27/10/2006 10:57

NBAOMN, why wouldn't you buy a house somewhere you love? Nothing thick about that!

I was to see that Scotland has more obese children than America (proportionately).

Blu · 27/10/2006 10:59

NothingBut...no need to be so rude.
Not thick at all, just buying a home in order to live while we do our jobs, and not enjoying the inflated house prices at all.

kid · 27/10/2006 11:00

I live in the worst place to live!
There is a lot of crime here and I wouldn't buy a house here, but only because I can't afford to.

Blu · 27/10/2006 11:15

Lots of MN-ers live in the 'worst' place to live, and really enjoy it!

The whole thing clearly has such a particular agenda and is geared only to house-BUYERS. Look at the intro to the section about crime, under their methodology. And look at the 'best' places -I'm sure thery're all lovely, but they don't realistically represent urban British life, vibrant multi-cultural life, or say what life is like for , say, council tennants, in those places. The index on how they measured lifestyle includes how many hotles a place has, and cafes - but what about access to the really top class cutting-edge arts, for example? Much better in some of the 'worst' places.

taMummy · 27/10/2006 11:21

Oh completely agree about Kirsy's sister's voice. She was so affected. Agree with Blu too, their criteria for choosing places were very house-buying-orientated. I'm sure Eastleigh's very nice and all that....

Bugsy2 · 27/10/2006 11:22

I get thicker by the minute on MN, cos I'm one of those thickos who buy in London!!!
I thought it was entertaining but a bit silly. It was looking at boroughs & everyone knows that one end of a borough can be a world apart from another. Also exam results are important for people with kids, but not really top of the agenda for pensioners!

expatinscotland · 27/10/2006 11:24

And for £180,000, you get: jack shit.

Gobbledispook · 27/10/2006 11:41

Didn't watch it but apparently Manchester is the 10th worst place to live!

Agree with expat's first post. I didn't watch it either - it's cringeworthy.

Skribble · 27/10/2006 11:45

All I want to know is why was Kirstie bumped for her sister, I love the way she dresses.

Am amazed! My old home town of Hull wasn't in the worst 10! Whats going on? Are we losing our reputation? We are usually pretty consistant in these surveys!

incy · 27/10/2006 11:50

Was it because Kirsty has just had a baby ? LOL at Phil's gratuitous shot in a singlet vest !
