you have a big asda though in Harrogate - alwasy competitively priced. And ok so there's one cr*p school, much better than in Leeds or elsewhere.
Have to say i think there is plenty for children to do in H'gate and often go up there to see friends and do children's type things. Can't afford to live there though

geekgrrl · 27/10/2006 13:54

the Asda is completely shite though. Really poorly stocked, not like the big one in Pudsey.

Morticia-Must be all those fancy flats near the Marina and the Old Town! I do have a certain fondness for the place, parents still there so I get back a bit!

zippitippitoes · 27/10/2006 14:03

how can harrogate have a marina?

harrogatemum · 27/10/2006 14:36

think shes talking about HUll.

SamhainWitch · 27/10/2006 14:42

Hull was never as bad as they made out, but even so it has improved a hell of a lot in the last year.

Loads of new development
brand new transport interchange on the way
bridges repaired and/or replaced
House prices gone up an average of 20% and forecasted to do the same or better this year.

KoshkaTheFIENDLYGhost · 27/10/2006 14:42

must have just been bad when i was a very shy child!!
is it granby you live mear? even thats getting better (apparently). i went to a school in harrogate, and because i was not very clever ,or very stupid we were stuck with no teachers sometimes, and no help/encouragement.

But, i am just bitter!! I love living here, but MAM bottles and dummies in only one shop in the whole town...? And they never have what i need...grrr.

Oh, and i only earn 6pounds an hour, so i can never afford to rent now im a single mum (not on the life plan)

KoshkaTheFIENDLYGhost · 27/10/2006 14:43

near..not mear

zippitippitoes · 27/10/2006 14:43

i used to live in harrogate too thought it must have sufferd coastal erosion a t scraboroghu

northerner · 28/10/2006 08:19

You see I live in Harrogate and understand teh conference trade as that's teh industry I work in. Town events bring in a huge amount of money to teh town and local businesses. Don't know where we'd be without it.

FMF are you talking about GH school? If so I thought it was improving, new head master and stuff? Surely it's not that bad is it? Just the worst of an excellent bunch?

Agree it is very expensive to live here, and yes a Lidl would be great as would a few pound shops. I love pound shops!

expat I love scotland we stayed in glasgow for the last week and had a great time- are you a happy expat or do you wish you lived somewhere else?

xena · 28/10/2006 09:23

I must say though my neighbour who is scotish grew up in the 'posh'?? bit of glasgow and she turned her nose up at where we stayed!! I must be oblivious to it though was arranging to go and see something at the barrowlands

I watched it, guess where i live ....
But where i am is lovely and quiet with a little stream at the bottom of the garden

expatinscotland · 28/10/2006 20:16

I'm in Edinburgh, Xena. Not had much chance to explore Glasgow so can't say one way or another what it's like - I'm sure it's like anyplace else: there's good and bad everywhere.

Glasgow gets so much bad press, though , which is a bit of a shame b/c there seem to be a lot of lovely, friendly people there.

xena · 28/10/2006 20:57

I don't think we passed someone in the street who didn't at least nod their heads in our direction. s-i-l has lived there for 7 years and loves it, i'm sure they have a family planned in the near future so I wonder if that will change her view at all. I honestly loved scotland (I think it was my 4th visit- never been to glasgow before), we went up to mull round loch lomond and it was gorgeous.
