Actress Julia Sawalha already knows a little about her past: her father is Jordanian and his ancestors were Bedouins. But she's initially more intrigued by her English mother's family history about which she knows nothing other than, like seemingly millions of English families, they "came over with the Huguenots". Inspired by her success at tracking down this set of ancestors all the way back to 17th-century Normandy, she then turns her attention to her father's family. It's a tricky task as he doesn't even know his own birth date, let alone have written records about his parents. Julia's an engaging companion on her journey, displaying such an angelic expression of interest and delight at every discovery, you can't help but be charmed by her.

think that's the series over isn't it? thought barbara windsor, david dickinson and julia sawalha were most interesting. jeremy irons a bit far up his own backside imho

Tutter agree - and she had a very interesting family. They managed to get way back on the French line. And the Jordanian grandmother was a pretty formidable character.
