If so, thoughts so far?

I couldn't get on with the book but I'm enjoying this so far...a cast of fallible and largely unpleasant characters; plot pleasantly complex(ish), good filming - bucolic pretty England with a claustrophobic feel....

Will be interested to see how it develops.

okeydonkey, it's about as sad as the ending of the programme. Only multiplied by 100 and lit up by the fricking sun. I read it at a festival and sobbed in a disgusting, snotty way in front of 12,000 revellers.

Whiteandbrownrabbit · 01/03/2015 22:09

wow what a stinking pile of shit, that was

Selks · 01/03/2015 22:09

That was so sad! I was so hoping Krysal would make good somehow.

Might have another go at the book now.

I'd hope the social worker going to see mum was because she was only one with any kind of a relationship with her.

Didby realise last episode

JohnFarleysRuskin · 01/03/2015 22:11

God that was tough watching.

I was hoping for a happier ending!

Fats mum was sooo nice but fats was such a cunt.

VenusStarr · 01/03/2015 22:11

I really wasn't expecting that. So so sad :( I've started reading the book and am quite enjoying it. Fully prepared to cry

Selks · 01/03/2015 22:12

Yes I thought the nice social worker was going back because the family know her, to break the bad news. Horrible to imagine Terri's reaction to that news Sad

Fats was a little shit, but got a bit of a reality check at the end I think.

Showy. I may read it.
It was filmed in my village

okeydonkey · 01/03/2015 22:25

May have to name change now lol

Showy · 01/03/2015 22:29

It was filmed in a few places according to google (I looked last week out of interest, am not stalking you!), though one main place. All seemed to be bloody lovely by all accounts. Lucky you.

okeydonkey · 01/03/2015 22:31

Yes very lovely village, two other main places where filmed are in my area too, I am lucky

GreenShadow · 01/03/2015 22:42

We must be near-neighbours Okey. It was filmed round where I live too.

Janus · 01/03/2015 22:42

I found that ending so incredibly sad. I needed to know what happened to Robbie, does it say in the book??
I may have to order the book just so I know but actress playing Krystal was amazing.
The whole scenario just made you think about how unlucky and shitty some people's circumstances are.

gaahhnonicknamesleft · 01/03/2015 22:45

Janus yes it does say what happens to Robbie in the book, but you don't want to know.

I thought the ending was better fitted to tv, i am glad they changed it

gaahhnonicknamesleft · 01/03/2015 22:48

One thing I thought it was a shame they left out - the part in the book when Robbie is wandering alone round pagford and all the self-righteous characters (I think even some of the nicer ones? Not sure) walk past him and don't intervene.

Selks · 01/03/2015 22:53

Oh bollocks I just read a spoiler for the book plot...why did I do that? I probably won't read the book now.

OP posts:
Unexpected · 01/03/2015 22:55

Is anyone prepared to PM me the ending in the book? Given the mixed reviews it has been given here and that I have now watched the TV series, I am never going to buy it but am curious to know how it differed from the series.

Norfolkandchance1234 · 01/03/2015 22:58

They should have kept the ending of the book and written in at least 2 more episodes explaining more about the characters stories which they left out from the book. It seems a shame to leave out so much interesting story line. Meh.

Selks · 01/03/2015 22:59

If you look on the Wikipedia page it tells you the ending

OP posts:
Norfolkandchance1234 · 01/03/2015 22:59

You can Wikipedia the books plot

Clawdy · 01/03/2015 22:59

Wikipedia have all the details about the fate of the characters and the ending,if anyone wants to know.

Madeyemoodysmum · 01/03/2015 23:04

Considering how much material they had to pull together in that last episode I think they did brilliantly.

Loved Shirley. So deliciously evil
Loved all the teens
Loved the red haired wife

Sad they killed off Krystal but it was less harrowing than the real ending.
May have to give it another read.

Thumbs up from me

iwishicouldsing · 01/03/2015 23:05

I thought it was great. I'll not forget Krystal and Robbie. Very upsetting and unfortunately quite believable. So many obnoxious people and poor lovely Krystal is the one who gets hurt.

I found the old woman with the big glasses terrifying.

Unexpected · 01/03/2015 23:12

Oh dear, the book ending is very upsetting.
