Torchwood torture!!!

My ds (9) is nagging me to let him watch 'Torchwood'. He is a MASSIVE Dr Who fan, and loves Captain Jack. But I was a bit worried as I noticed it was post watershed, and I have now seen in my TV Mag that it's "not only scarier than Dr Who but also bloodier and raunchier - with both human and alien sex scenes" So he is DEFINITELY not seeing it!! And oh god has he been moaning at me!! Why have they decided to make it like this? They must know that a large proportion of kids will want to watch it!!

hhhm. i've just watched ep 3. wasn't very good.

motherinferior · 21/10/2006 18:25

Oh, stop showing off, AA. Some of us can only sit and dream of polymorphous perversity, you know, we don't get it sent through our mailflaps.

GraceUnderFire · 21/10/2006 18:29

Clearly, however (if Aitch is to be believed) dreams can be better than the reality.

motherinferior · 21/10/2006 18:31

GUF, who are you?

GraceUnderFire · 21/10/2006 18:33

I am not succeeding at this "passing myself off as a newbie" lark, am I?

motherinferior · 21/10/2006 18:35

Er no, not madly. Especially not when you refer to Kangamummy.

GraceUnderFire · 21/10/2006 18:36

I may just have been browsing threads all day since stumblng accidentally across this mildly amusing parenting site...

CarolinaMooncup · 21/10/2006 18:38

was there much Barrowman-on-alien action in it Aitch?

motherinferior · 21/10/2006 18:38

In a strange, obsessive way (fitting right in, then)...

AlfredAitchcock · 21/10/2006 22:47

not enough. actually none.
there was a frisson between him and the female lead but so unconvincing as to make me think barrowman secretly asexual. which is a shame.

Bomper · 21/10/2006 23:19

Roisin, good for your dh, it is sooooo true that we as parents will have to endure a barrage of moaning and complaints from children who do not understand why they cannot watch this programme which is being publisised so widely!! TBH, if it were just blood and gore I would probably let ds watch it, but I am not going to let him sit there and watch sex scenes at the age of 9!! Doesn't interest me either actually, I found Captain Jack to be a bloody annoying character anyway!!!

AA, sorry Barrowman's gay, he was talking about his boyfriend on Jonathan Ross this morning. Still, the pix in the radio times are nice. Not long to wait now.

AlfredAitchcock · 22/10/2006 00:20

but he struck me as asexual rather than hetero or homoexual, iykwim? when pushed, he just didn't carry off being sexy... i am VERY disappointed to say. still i do like torchwood, but it's probably a bit less buffy and a bit more sapphire and steel than i expected.

CarolinaMooncup · 22/10/2006 20:37

I found this slightly bizarre fact on Wikipedia:

"Barrowman, a gay actor, was under consideration for the role of Will in the popular US series "Will and Grace" but the producers felt he was "too straight" and the role went to straight actor Eric McCormack instead."

dabihp · 22/10/2006 21:23

does anyone else find his uncanny (albeit paid 4 by surgery, surely?) resemblance to Tom Cruise, bloody scary??

HumphreyComfrey · 22/10/2006 21:25

Ah well, that's one "fucking", a couple of "buggers", and one ripped out throat too many for DS2 (although he disagrees! ).

He's been dispatched to bed with a cup of cocoa and a Cressida Cowell story CD!

DS1 still watching, with Dad instructed to hit the off button if things get much worse!

dabihp · 22/10/2006 21:30

omg, he is soooo gay!

2shoescreepingthroughblood · 22/10/2006 22:46

well wow that was great
not for the little ones though was my thought

nutcracker · 22/10/2006 22:56

I thought it was fantastic and I hadn't even planned to watch it. Found myself looking at the clock thinking 'oh no not long left'.

Skribble · 22/10/2006 22:58

Episode 1 OK for 9yrs DD 7 wasn't so keen. We sent them up to bed before episode 2, just aswell as it was a bit raunchy. They only got to stay up as no school tomorrow, we will have to pre screen episode 3 for DS.

AshNotTheHousewaresOne · 22/10/2006 23:05

never thought i'd see the day when kiddies and parents complained about not being able to watch a 'doctor who' spin-off!.....you should have been here during the 'wilderness years' (1990-2005....not counting the blip that was 'the american co-produced television movie with the pertwee logo') when there was none on!!!......but seriously, the kiddies have 'doctor who' (both old and new) to enjoy plus 'the sarah jane adventures' and the k-9 cartoon to look forward to, whilst us older fans (sorry 'enthusiasts') can enjoy that and the toptastic 'torchwood' too! age has its priviledges!! lol....i had to wait till i was 27 to see 'the 10th planet'.....gives them something to look forward to!
happy times and places!

oh.....and btw.....was i the only person to watch it with a 5" toy capt jack on my knee?

Skribble · 22/10/2006 23:06

Aww I want a cpt. Jack toy .

HumphreyComfrey · 22/10/2006 23:07

I was disappointed by Torchwood.

Hopefully the next episode will be better.

AlfredAitchcock · 22/10/2006 23:26

uuum, it isn't Humph.

housemum · 22/10/2006 23:48

Scuse jumping on this thread but I have to ask a question (btw whoever let me know that Barrowman is gay has wrecked my dreams tonight!!) having just watched the first 2.

In ep 2 in the fertility clinic, what on earth are packets of condoms doing on the table next to the "jazz mags"?? Perhaps someone from a TTC thread could enlighten me but they would seem about as useful as a handbrake on a canoe??
