Jeremy Irons is the latest celebrity to search for answers in his ancestry. He's convinced there's a reason for his feeling at home in Ireland. Can he find Irish blood among his antecedents? And will any branches of his family tree explain his love of the sea or, for that matter, his love of acting? As ever, the journey of discovery turns out to be as interesting as the odd nuggets of history Irons unearths, but he's a charming subject, full of hand-rubbing excitement and the odd tear. And you have to warm to an A-list actor whose preferred mode of transport is riding a motorbike with his two dogs in a box on the back. His great- great-grandfather, who it's rumoured rode into the Palace of Westminster backwards on a donkey, would surely have approved.
