If you're a vicar or whatever doesn't the church have to be more dominant in your life than your spouse?

I agree. I'm not at all surprised Trixie wasn't asked for her opinion.

ppeatfruit · 11/02/2015 17:05

Your dad sounds like the people who don't reckon there's any calories in cake if you eat it standing up or whatever! I know that's not funny either ,it must 've been very difficult for your family.

Aged cinzano Grin did it improve ? Grin

Pixel · 11/02/2015 19:57

But we don't want Trixie to get back with the vicar though do we? Cos then she'll go off to Sheffield or wherever it was and we'll lose another good character. Even if Trixie gets her way and he takes Dibley a nice country parish then they'll still leave.

Mrsjayy · 11/02/2015 20:44

We tipped the aged chinzano oh it was ripe

BeyondDoesBootcamp · 11/02/2015 20:54

Ahh, but I reckon he might quit his vicar-ing for trixie...

ShelaghTurner · 11/02/2015 22:35

Don't hold your breath BeyondDoesBootcamp. He ain't no Sr. Bernadette... Wink

Behindthepaintedgarden · 12/02/2015 10:52

I'm torn. I'd love to see Trixie happily married to the Curate and living in some picturesque village with several children.
But, I wouldn't see it because if that happened it would mean she'd be leaving CTM and the last we'd probably see of her is waving to the nuns out of a car window as she and Tom depart for her new life.
So, I'm torn!

Pixel · 12/02/2015 21:42

Do vicars quit vicar-ing? I suppose some of them only used to go into it because of family expectations. What was it? The eldest son inherited the land, the second one went to be an officer in the army and the third got ordained? I seem to vaguely remember that from Jane Austen or something.

My uncle quit vicaring he trained after he was made redundant and was a vicar for 7 years he quit after my aunt took a stroke he does lay preaching now (that might not be a thing) but he does take some services at his church he also changed denomination in the 70s from roman catholic to Anglican after they moved to England

DameEdnasBridesmaid · 15/02/2015 20:36

Aw Raymond.

LIZS · 15/02/2015 20:45

Oh No is Dr ill or having some kind of breakdown. Poor baby , does he have brittle bone disease or is it worse?

ClutterofStarlings · 15/02/2015 20:48

I think the baby has brittle bone disease, but that's quite bad. I think the doctor is having a breakdown triggered by crisis of confidence. I think trixie's having a bit of a breakdown too Sad

DameEdnasBridesmaid · 15/02/2015 20:54

Oh God and now there's something wrong with Ameera.

dancestomyowntune · 15/02/2015 21:06

The mother of the baby with brittle bone disease was maddening me. Not giving the poor soul paracetamol and praying for him to be cured. Of course she needs her faith, but she also needs to do what she can for her poor child! Sister Julienne was very patient with her but I have to say I don't think I would have been have as patient!

And the little boy translating for his mother was gorgeous! Really glad that Dr Turner got his confidence back in time to save her. I have to say I had no idea what diphtheria was! It's just one of those illnesses that you vaccinate against as children and thank god we do judging by that story!

BertieBotts · 15/02/2015 23:48

I'm sure that entire episode was written by somebody with a pro vaccination agenda! Not that a pro vaccination agenda is a bad thing, but the juxtaposition of the family "refusing medicine for religious reasons" (which came to absolutely nothing!) and the Diptheria. I didn't know what it was either, actually, but was told that in the 1950s it killed equal numbers of children to the number killed in car accidents or by cars today.

I have to say I laughed at the doctor's big dramatic "They need me. I must go." face. It was supposed to be all serious but it was unintentionally hilarious Blush

ShelaghTurner · 16/02/2015 00:14

The McGanns do tweet a lot about vaccs so IT doesn't surprise me at all

SoupDragon · 16/02/2015 07:18

Do the McGanns write the script then?

SoupDragon · 16/02/2015 07:25

I only know about diphtheria because my grandmother had it as a child and had mentioned it.

The juxtapositions in the script are all deliberate and they do it all the time don't they? Every episode has stories linked by a "theme".

Surely vaccinations those who had been in close contact would have been standard? I'm not sure how that equates to a pro vaccination agenda.

diddl · 16/02/2015 08:37

"Do the McGanns write the script then?"

Stephen McGann is married to Heidi Thomas, the screenwriter.

BertieBotts · 16/02/2015 08:43

No the agenda bit was: Showing the real effects of diphtheria, something we vaccinate against routinely but most people alive today have never seen. A short comment about how "people are getting complacent". Juxtaposed with: some views about avoiding medication which most people would find ridiculous and shocking. Meant to highlight what it was actually like when the need for vaccines was more immediately obvious, and the idea that avoiding medication based on a whim is ridiculous. It wasn't as overt as the part where all of the Asian community was vaccinated, as you say, that was just good practice.

As I said I don't think it's a bad message, it just amused me.

I thought that babies were still vaccinated against diphtheria with the DPT vaccine?
(Diphtheria, pertussis, tetanus)

So am surprised that people haven't heard of it.

diddl · 16/02/2015 08:53

Oh sorry, misread.

People saying that they don't know what it is, rather than haven't heard of it.

MarthasHarbour · 16/02/2015 09:02

I agree rightsaidthread i am loving the new line up ATM - but yes i was a bit 'meh' to see Cynthia last night, i always found her a bit woolly.

And I agree with PP - little Farrukh was adorable! Smile
