Notebooks at the ready Grin We should have enough information at the end of the first episode to start cooking up some slightly implausible theories.

Love the theme music at the end, it sounds like a mixture of that used in The Bridge and Les Revenants...very atmospheric.

There are lots of guilty faces hiding secrets, Rory and the plumber and even Ellie's son, so clearly we have a way to go. Court scene was very tense but surely DCI Hardy deserves some kind of award for consistently dodgy policing... Seriously WTAF was he doing leaving those two alone....? Escape entirely predictable.

I am still loving the scenery, atmosphere and location thoughGrin

GentlyBenevolent · 13/01/2015 16:49

Tom smashed the laptop I think. Or at least, he was supposed to have...

newrecruit · 13/01/2015 17:04

Also, I watched the final episode of The Killing III last night and am devastated.

How could they.

ArsenicFaceCream · 13/01/2015 17:07

I am actually a bit gutted. I loved series one.

Finally caught up. Re-watched series one and went straight into series two.

Awful. Like two different writers. Like bad fan fiction Sad

LIZS · 13/01/2015 17:13

It is almost as if they are re-editing it as they go along such us the random nature of the "plot". Iirc the last episode of series 1 had several alternatives.

katese11 · 13/01/2015 17:15

Tom smashed up the laptop but was caught by the vicar, who handed it over to Hardy.

There are loads of things in season one that I thought would be significant later...like the photographer not turning up for sports day in the first episode. I thought he might be involved else why mention it?

ArsenicFaceCream · 13/01/2015 17:26

And who cast Meera Syal? If you are going to write Toy Town court procedure, you need someone with acting ability to carry it.

GentlyBenevolent · 13/01/2015 17:32

Meera Syal worked on two of Chibnall's Dr Who episodes previously.

cleanmachine · 13/01/2015 17:36

I like meera but as soon as she arrived it all became a bit comedic. Dont think shes doing the part any justice.

It's getting a bit twin peaks now. Especially with the silly claire/lee vanishing scene.

ArsenicFaceCream · 13/01/2015 17:44

Exactly. Gravitas is the word I was groping for, I think.

Blondeshavemorefun · 13/01/2015 17:57

As others have said the legal storylines are silly and not right. Who is their legal advisor. Must look at credits Grin

Why did they met in Ellie's house? And what was the point in hiding Claire in witness protection for her to then meet lee

And the escape out of the window was ridiculous

ArsenicFaceCream · 13/01/2015 18:05

Namita Pawa & Trevor Burke QC Blondes

MissBattleaxe · 13/01/2015 18:22

As much as I love Broadchurch, I do think that in series 2 its the cast that are keeping me watching, rather than the writing. I'm no expert but there seems to be a lot of legal loopholes.

DT and OC are superb- with lots of moody pensive close ups. I love the setting, the slow pace, the acting, but I am just a bit frustrated this time round.

Oh and I adore Charlotte Rampling!

Icimoi · 13/01/2015 18:34

I can just about see how Beth might assume Ellie deliberately sabotaged the reliability of the confession, but not how others could logically think that - she couldn't have known she'd get the opportunity, and as a police officer involved with the case she probably had better ways of sabotaging it.

On another tack, did anyone else notice how healthy the house plants were in Ellie's house despite the place apparently having been deserted for months?

LIZS · 13/01/2015 19:05

Would no one have been back to collect personal items , clothes, toys and so . Let alone post and bills to pay .

katese11 · 13/01/2015 19:21

They had CCTV in the interrogation room so surely could have checked whether Joe walked in like a man with a broken rib would?

Having been underwhelmed by the first episode, enjoyed the second, but agree its because of the acting of OC, DT, Beth, Charlotte Rampling not by the plotting. Finding the Sandbrook people/thread a bit boring and far fetched. Also the Meera Sayal judge coming in like someone from Victoria Wood sketch - bit meh.
But will definitely be watching next week.

Icimoi · 13/01/2015 21:04

Araminta, that doesn't work, because everyone concerned would have had to have taken leave of their senses for the whole issue not to have been dealt with before the start of the trial.

It's getting a bit twin peaks now.

I came on here to say exactly the same thing.

I haven't a clue what is happening, but I think that DT does believe Claire was involved in the murder of the girls, and I agree that Joe might be covering for Tom in some way. He was very keen for the vicar to pass his message on.

When asked about if her husband had cheated on her, why did Beth name Becca, surely you would just yes "yes, he had an affair". Why did Charlotte Rampling not object to those a questions?

MissBattleaxe · 13/01/2015 23:31

They had CCTV in the interrogation room so surely could have checked whether Joe walked in like a man with a broken rib would?

Exactly. His clothes were removed and he was put in a white forensic suit before Ellie even saw him. It would have been obvious then if he had had a broken rib! Honestly it is annoying when there are biog stupid loopholes that shoehorn the plot in and make no sense.

ArsenicFaceCream · 13/01/2015 23:36

The family of the victim choosing prosecution counsel like they were buying a car (on the beach) still has me spluttering.

GentlyBenevolent · 14/01/2015 05:49

They didn't choose her. The CPS asked her, she said no, her friend (ex?) tried to persuade her, failed, Beth and mark tried to persuade her, failed, then she changed her mind when she realised her former colleague had taken the prosecution case whie she was pumping her for info she might have as a local.

EauRouge · 14/01/2015 09:22

Finally caught up. Series 2 is a bit crap, isn't it? I must have said 'Oh FFS' out loud so many times during the first two episodes. Ah well, I will keep watching because I want to know whodunnit and also because I love Olivia Colman. Maybe it will get better?

Arsenic, you are spot on, it's exactly like bad fan fic.

Defo think Claire and Lee did a runner rather than him kidnapping her.
