He should at least have tried living in Oz for a few years.

Does anyone know if they planned a temporary move to Oz and at the end of it he wanted to return to UK and she wanted to stay in Oz, would a judge let Isla stay with her or order the baby to live with the dad?

DreamingOfAHotDrink · 23/01/2015 10:26

Yes they would let her stay as the child would be settled, Mum would have enough to support them working part time, they have the support of family and childcare/schooling.

She was a nice girl, hope she gets lots of holidays to Australia.

nonicknameseemsavailable · 23/01/2015 10:50

I have just finished watching it on replay (was building bedroom furniture earlier) and I agree that they needed to agree on this at the beginning. We are stuck where we are (not that we plan to move abroad but just even if we had wanted to move area) because we have parents we have to care for, started with us being stuck here because of his mum but now mine have moved here because we couldn't move nearer them so we can't go anywhere but that is the way it is. In MY mind I would love to go and move abroad but we can't and that is that. I think from what they said she has always been honest and clear that she wanted to go back to Australia and he obviously didn't take her seriously on it. It is really a lose lose situation.

mind I was surprised at how holdy handy touchy feely they were, almost forced in my opinion (or I just know a lot of non affectinate couples)

If he's ambitious in his career he has to think ahead. Yes he would be better off now. But he is young and didn't appear to be on a huge salary for an investment banker(?) so he has potential to earn mega bucks in London. What is he likely to earn in Oz in the future? If he moves to Oz just for a few years he may be out of the game here. Money isn't everything but if you are in investment banking I would suggest money does mean quite a lot to you. If they take 5 years to decide it'll be an even harder decision financially as his wage will be much higher by then.

They seemed a nice family. She seemed very bubbly and happy. Maybe if she was absolutely miserable in UK he would consider moving - but they have a comfortable life here.
I've heard Perth is a small city and folk coming from a large city like London can find it a bit dull after a while - but that obviously depends on the individual.

shakemysilliesout · 23/01/2015 11:30

I don't think either of them are monsters. It's a no win.

shakemysilliesout · 23/01/2015 11:40

I chuckled at them arguing mid cycle ride and at every card turn. The cards aren't a contract! It wud be funnier if it wasn't so sad.

AnneEyhtMeyer · 23/01/2015 12:28

Really sad episode today. I appreciate he doesn't want to go, but he should have been honest with her years ago.

Hillingdon · 23/01/2015 17:13

Its something you dont always consider, we are all living longer and both my parents are still alive in their 80's.

It effectively means that if you did something like move to Oz you have to take into account that you will be coming back perhaps when they get ill or worse pass away.

My BIL's parents have decided to move near them as they come into their 70's and they are very difficult to deal with, they have effectively presumed that they will be looked after by them. They didnt consult my BIL - they just moved very near.

When my DM was in hospital due to my siblings not being around (one has emigrated) it was me that had to spend hours at the hospital with my mother. She said she didnt have any choice but to call me.

Its a difficult decision but investment banking in the Uk is the place to be rather than Oz.

ClaimedByMe · 26/01/2015 09:26

New week...new families...all with the same unrealistic ideas...

meglet · 26/01/2015 09:27

don't think they should go. her mum is getting on and I'm not sure about leaving now the kids are at uni. either do it when everyone is little or don't do it at all.

Sparklingbrook · 26/01/2015 09:30

Morning all. This seems like a non starter.....

EatSleepRaveRepeat · 26/01/2015 09:35

I thought the last house was stunning but £££

Sparklingbrook · 26/01/2015 09:36

So he has 2 DC at University, she has another Ds who couldn't come because of GCSEs, and then two of their own?

meglet · 26/01/2015 09:36

go back to work 8 thousand miles away from your support network just to afford the house? that'll work.

Sparklingbrook · 26/01/2015 09:37

He's a GP. Didn't see that.

Sparklingbrook · 26/01/2015 09:39
Shock
Vagndidit · 26/01/2015 09:39

Wow. That salary!

Sparklingbrook · 26/01/2015 09:40

Is £200,000 not enough to live on then?

georgie22 · 26/01/2015 09:42

Do we think he left his first wife for the practice nurse?

EatSleepRaveRepeat · 26/01/2015 09:44

Georgie ha ha that's what I thought

forago · 26/01/2015 09:45

This is the first one where I've thought actually, they should probably go.

Because, for once, they can afford it and BOTH have in demand jobs and professions.

forago · 26/01/2015 09:46

Wouldnt have guessed he was a GP either

georgie22 · 26/01/2015 09:46

He doesn't look like a GP! Their house is gorgeous.

Sparklingbrook · 26/01/2015 09:48

That's really cheap!
