I think it starts next week. Grin

Just watching now. Mum seems nice - she's only been out of UK once, to France. That'd be a hard move for her.

Sparklingbrook · 12/01/2015 09:45

Morning all. Mum seems very realistic, Dad not so much....

Cherrypie32 · 12/01/2015 09:46

Winding me up no end. Typical case of 'oh life would be one permanent holiday here because there's a beach and sunshine'. Oh and a carnival. He just said himself, why can't they do that in the uk.

ClaimedByMe · 12/01/2015 09:49

I missed the start what is the dads job, I saw the bit where they said a degree but no idea what for!

Sparklingbrook · 12/01/2015 09:49

It's like whenever we go on holiday DH and i always say 'ooh I could live here' when we have spent 7 days there ON HOLIDAY DOING NOTHING. Grin

EatSleepRaveRepeat · 12/01/2015 09:52

He is a engineer of some sort but has worked his way up from the shop floor and so didn't get a degree. I can't see him leaving work to study full time to get it. Or if via the OU part time that could take 6 years ..

Cherrypie32 · 12/01/2015 09:54

Dad is clueless.

Sparklingbrook · 12/01/2015 09:54

What a waste of time.

LegsOfSteel · 12/01/2015 09:55

He's a mechanical engineer but not with a degree. So not eligible for a skilled worker visa. Seems as though the producers used to do the groundwork in the old days - now the families are a bit on their own.

loveliesbleeding1 · 12/01/2015 09:55

I think jenna would struggle without her mum, carl just said himself her mum has brought the 2 boys up.

Peedie · 12/01/2015 09:57

I love that he'd worked out that they'd be £750 better off but they'd actually be £250 worse off. Numpty.

LoisWilkerson15 · 12/01/2015 09:57

What research did he do?! Hilarious. Grin

EatSleepRaveRepeat · 12/01/2015 09:57

I love how a carnival blew the dads mind . He needs to get out more in the UK. I live on the South coast and there is always something on in the summer

LegsOfSteel · 12/01/2015 09:58

Where do they currently live? Somewhere without fairs?

LoisWilkerson15 · 12/01/2015 10:00

No Carnivals or calculators! Hell on earth obviously.

Cherrypie32 · 12/01/2015 10:01

Honestly he was like her third child. He was convinced he'd walk into a job - no. That they'd be loads better off - no. That carnivals don't exist in the UK.

Cherrypie32 · 12/01/2015 10:04

Funnily enough update says they haven't gone.

differentnameforthis · 12/01/2015 10:06

I'd love to see more like yours, with big gardens...property porn Aussie style!

Perhaps the problem is that they show them new builds, which do have very little outside space, as they now build 3 houses on what would have been a single plot.

Older homes have heaps of room inside & out, yet I guess more people want modern new builds, which also cost $$$

Rivercam · 12/01/2015 10:15

I guess Carl's research was based on engineer with degree salaries.

The family are still in the UK. Jenna got made redundant from her old job, and is now a teaching assistant. Carl still wants to go out in the future ( no mention that he's contemplating doing a degree or not).

Sparklingbrook · 12/01/2015 10:15

oh no, they haven't gone? Sad Grin

shakemysilliesout · 12/01/2015 10:19

Jenna seems brilliant. Loved her, 'you wouldn't move here for a school fair' comment. She has her head screwed on.

He has been researching beaches rather than jobs and visas.

My fav thing on this show is the twisty cards but the next best thing is the spreadsheet of costs done on excel but not the total- so they add it up on camera. It's so stupid, like excel can't do adding up.

LoisWilkerson15 · 12/01/2015 10:19

Missing the point maybe but why not try and enjoy life/change here in the uk? Visit the odd carnival of a weekend? Grrr! ignores storm outside

LegsOfSteel · 12/01/2015 10:21

I'd like a closer look at the grocery shops. (I currently try to freeze frame on this!). On one of the programmes they had something like shredded wheat in the list. And it was really expensive in Oz or NZ. But it's imported so it's going to be expensive and you wouldn't buy it - you'd substitute.

shakemysilliesout · 12/01/2015 10:22

I love a school fete- its a good day out. So are car boots. But instead of being in his community he's been online looking at photos...

Sparklingbrook · 12/01/2015 10:24

I wouldn't be able to do the budget thing. I shop the offers in Asda, and every weekly shop is different.

Today's just showed you how great the UK is.
