I think we'll find out in the next series - Moseley's bird knows something, I'm sure of it

diddl · 30/12/2014 09:19

I keep thinking that it'll be Baxter who killed Greene.

Hope not though.

skildpadden · 30/12/2014 15:39

diddl that'd be a very good twist. You should ring up JF and tell him you have some ideas

diddl · 30/12/2014 18:00

Tbh, I can't remember where she was at the time, though so it probably wouldn't work.

i t]like her though so was rather it not be her.

There was something about a witness being unsure now of seeing anna, so I wonder if JF is just going to let that storyline just disappear.

Davros · 30/12/2014 21:48

I don't understand why they think it was a murder at all.

StormBraver · 30/12/2014 23:38

Just watched this tonight. I loved it, but then I don't care a bit that it's unrealistic fluff, I just look at the lovely costumes and wish I could go and live in that world! I didn't see Mr Carson's proposal coming at all, it was very sweet. Although given that nobody gets their happy ever afters in Downton land, my money's on Mrs Hughes being banged up next series for Mr Green's murder!

TheEnduringMoment · 30/12/2014 23:46

I'm not getting my hopes up. We never found out who killed Mrs Bates did we?

NuggetofPurestGreen · 31/12/2014 00:31

diddl someone on the last thread (perhaps you?) was speculating that Baxter may have killed Green and that he was in fact that bad 'un that framed her for the robbery and then legged it with the cash.

SirChenjin · 31/12/2014 08:05

I agree with that, Nugget/Diddl. Baxter is involved somewhere along the lines, mark my words

diddl · 31/12/2014 08:18

I think I may have mentioned it before!

There was something she said I think about not letting Anna(?) or someone innocent taking the blame?

It came across to me that she would confess to it if necessary.

But because she had done it or to atone for other things?
(that's a step too far surely)

As far as i remember, Anna was maybe seen in the area.

Of course if it isn't known that he raped her, then surely that's a big so what as there's no motive on her part?

Supposedly he saw someone he knew/recognised though?

breward · 31/12/2014 09:18

Gosford Park film on tonight on ITV 3 (I think )at 9pm. Never seen it before but JF won an Oscar for best screen play for it. For those who have seen it, is it any good and is it like Downton?

LuluJakey1 · 31/12/2014 10:31

The acting is better than Downton.

Davros · 31/12/2014 11:30

GF is GUIs but, as I've said before on MN, it's a film of two halves and Stephen Fry's comedy copper is ridiculous. I love Ivor Novello in it. I think the family/staff relationships are more realistic

LuluJakey1 · 31/12/2014 23:00

Spotted a young Spratt in Gosford Park, as well as Maggie Smith and Richard E Grant.
The murder is rather like theBates/Anna things- it amounts to nothing in terms of the plot. It is all the secrets that are intriguing as well as just the way of life. The acting is much better I think and it is beautifully filmed but oddly unsatisfying as a drama - rather like Downton.

SparklesForEveryone · 01/01/2015 10:04

From downton wiki

Vera had been ingesting Arsenic for a long time before her death: Vera's state of mind being described as "paranoid yet determined" and the "scrubbing of her fingers" both confirm this - Arsenic, over a long period of time, changes the pigmentation of your fingernails. The strongest point to back up the case for Vera having ingested Arsenic for a long time is when Mrs. Bartlett says that Vera was described as "wearing a halo" - Arsenic, after it has had time to get into the lungs, makes the person's breath fluorescent, which is where the halo - made from Vera's breath - would have come from.

Sorry- that's the first mrs bates

MILLYmo0se · 01/01/2015 12:52

Finally saw GF park last night, after goodness knows how many times of just missing the start of it, it being on too late etc - perfect NYE viewing for me ! I enjoyed it, but it's on odd film, as said above I think, the murder seemes a bit 'beside the point or something

breward · 01/01/2015 20:03

I fell asleep at 11pm.. Had DS running in and out with updates on the book he was reading. Ahh! He spoke through the maid running out of the dining room scene. Had no idea what had gone on! Luckily I had recorded it, so will watch the missing bits and end tomorrow. No idea how some of the characters were related
Sir William married to Kristen Scott Thomas with Sophie Thompson as daughter.
Maggie smith just a house guest but why was she getting an allowance for sir William ( or have I got that wrong?)
Who was Charles dance married to? Was he just another house guest?

You can see why I need to rewatch!

breward · 02/01/2015 19:35

Yeh... Finished watching Gosford Park today. After re watching parts and looking at Gosford Park on Wikipedia I finally pieced it altogether! Great film.
