They've been a bit hit and miss in the past but I do like Charlie Brooker so giving it a go!

Yep and so were the words pie ape who was one of the dudes names in the murder at the start Grin

perplexedpirate · 16/12/2014 23:03

Ooh, he's a sharp one is that Brooker!
Grin

I really want a blocker thing

MrStateTrooper · 16/12/2014 23:05

One of the guys was also called Waldo, which is a nod to the final episode in the last series. Loved it!

LoadsaBlusher · 16/12/2014 23:13

Loved it ! Exactly my type of thing , going to look up the previous Black Mirror Episodes now , can't wait to get stuck in .
Loved the twist in the tale ...

I really enjoyed a couple of these last time but got completely and utterly freaked out by the social media one with the prime minister and the pig...am scared to watch this new one!

Rollergirl1 · 17/12/2014 09:45

I was a bit bored to be honest. I also don't really understand what the actual point of it was. Maybe i'm just thick. The bit with Oona Chaplin creating a clone of herself to use as a slave I understood. But the guy with the daughter and at the end it turns out that it's manufactured and they are interrogating him, are they actually interrogating him or the copy of himself? It's just at the end when the police guy turns up the "cookie" so each minute is 6 months or something, isn't that the "copy" of him rather than the actual guy? Or can they mess around with people's timelines too?

OP posts:
Enpoid · 17/12/2014 09:49

Yep, that's the copy that they tortured at the end. Casual unthinking cruelty because it's only a bit of software, in the context of our just having watched a story designed to provoke thoughts about whether a sufficiently sophisticated computer program can/should be treated as having rights etc.

Kinda Dickian.

Poledra · 17/12/2014 09:59

I liked this - haven't seen any of the others, mainly turned it on because Jon Hamm Xmas Grin

HOWEVER, I was irritated by the holes in the pregnant girlfriend story. OK, the block applied to legal offspring so he couldn't see the little girl. But surely the boyfriend could have applied for access to his child? Where were his rights with regard ot the child? Assuming that the mother did not name him on the birth certificate, he could still have applied for DNA testing and therefore access to the child. And found out the truth a lot sooner and without all the hanging around in the snow...

Rollergirl1 · 17/12/2014 10:01

So what's meant to be happening with the actual "physical" guy? How does torturing the copy have any bearing on the real guy?

OP posts:
WrappedInABlankie · 17/12/2014 10:10

I don't think it does, does it. He just wasn't talking so they made the cookie talk. But the cookie thinks he's the real him so maybe they're torturing a version of himself at 1000 years a minute over the Christmas holiday.

Couldn't think of anything worse, hate that Christmas song anywayConfused

AnyFuckerForAMincePie · 17/12/2014 10:18

I thought it was a pile of crap

Except Jon Hamm looked very nice.

angelos02 · 17/12/2014 10:31

I really enjoyed it. Loads of different themes to think about. Much better than the dross that makes up 99% of stuff on TV.

AnyFuckerForAMincePie · 17/12/2014 11:56

There were some cracking continuity mistakes that distracted me somewhat :-)

gamerchick · 17/12/2014 20:38

Howay guys it was a piece of piss to follow. It was all one story and as smooth as a babies bum Hmm maybe I watch these more than the average person though Grin

I like the pig one. I like to imagine DC as the PM .

southeastastra · 17/12/2014 20:52

i thought is was a bit crapola too, silly and doom laden

AnyFuckerForAMincePie · 17/12/2014 21:45

Too try-hard for me

gamerchick · 17/12/2014 22:20

Actually I think the pig one was the only one it didn't link to in some way. Unless the police were supposed to be the reference. There was at least 3 references to 15 million merits alone.

cloudberryberry · 18/12/2014 22:10

It was interesting, but a bit silly too, ultimately. I wasn't very convinced. I did like the copy story line, that was quite thought provoking

My last thought was something along lines of "How is he (Jon Ham) going conduct the most simple everyday transactions, even survive, if he is blocked by absolutely everybody. How would that have worked...

Also, the other man. Why didn't his girlfriend just tell him, or have message conveyed to him, that it wasn't his baby, at some point. As he clearly thought the baby was his. Also the father. Not that I'm condoning the violence that ended his life, but he could have been a tiny bit sympathetic, especially given the man's obviously mentally distressed state, and explained that he was sorry the child obviously wasn't his daughter etc etc

Also seems odd the blocking prevents him having contact with child

TheFirstOfHerName · 22/12/2014 11:48

I thought it was good, but not as good as White Bear.

OxonConfusedDotCom · 22/12/2014 21:13

Series v hit and miss- some episodes brilliant concept, poorly executed, others brilliant on both. Thought White Bear was rushed, poorly acted and very "6th form" somehow. But great idea. Need decent team of script writers, tight editing and better direction maybe?
