It's not much of a surprise to discover that domestic goddess Nigella Lawson comes from "catering stock" (her great-great-grandfather founded the successful Lyons Corner House empire) but what is startling (and very pleasing to her young son Bruno) is that another of her forefathers fled from Amsterdam to England to avoid a prison sentence for stealing. That Nigella's family is so high-profile and that a relative compiled a family tree back in the 1970s means she starts her quest with a huge advantage. However, there are a few discoveries that cause Nigella to raise one of her exquisite Kim Novak-style eyebrows, and a few disappointments that produce a pout - namely, no sign of what she describes as an "exotic olé quality" among her family. Amazingly, given how much time she spends in black cabs during the film, there are no taxi drivers in her past.
