Anyone see this? I thought it was entertaining and will be tuning in again next Tuesday.

Not as good as Sunshine Valley (?right name - but the one about the yorkshire kidnapping) - but still pretty good. I like David Morrissey.

Yes, definitely worth watching. Very gripping

alemci · 02/10/2014 15:49

also in the first episode he drove away from the police on the black car.

The auburn haired detective looked familiar and similar to Daniel ? married to Helen McCrory.

EvansOvalPiesYumYum · 03/10/2014 15:05

'Scuse me popping in.

Alemci - Helen McCrory is married to Damien Lewis.

I think the detective you're speaking about is Shaun Dingwall. He's been in Soldier Soldier and The Suspicions of Mr Whicher, among many others.

Enjoying the programme too - the violent bits made me jump, and I cried when Vince was speaking to his son through the door Sad

alemci · 03/10/2014 16:37

yes thanks i knew it was Lewis surname but thinking of Daniel Day.

KenDoddsDadsDog · 07/10/2014 21:21

Who is watching ?

Clawdy · 07/10/2014 22:31

I suppose I'm glad the end was happy but have to say it really didn't ring true.

KenDoddsDadsDog · 07/10/2014 22:49

It was so grim then the end was all rushed .

KenDoddsDadsDog · 07/10/2014 23:00

I really thought he would be shot - the thing with his son was weird.

DameDiazepamTheDramaQueen · 07/10/2014 23:05

I didn't know those two were married!Shock

Last part was shit especially all the dramatic police speakHmm

Dh summed it up for me 'what a load of bollox'Grin

Panicmode1 · 08/10/2014 08:56

Once again a 3 part drama with two gripping episodes is let down massively by the concluding episode.....and once again I felt annoyed I'd wasted 3 hours of my life. It just didn't ring true at all for me...it just made all of the violence in episode 2 totally gratuitous.

ProfYaffle · 08/10/2014 08:59

I agree, it felt sort of rushed and 'bitty' somehow. I honestly thought he'd be shot by the end, the happy ending felt implausible.

MorrisZapp · 08/10/2014 09:08

Now now, lets be nice. I agree, so many two or three parters are let down by their endings. But how else can it be? If we want tension ratcheting up to unbearable levels (which by god we do) then we have to accept a certain amount of 'deus ex machina' in the resolution.

The writers paint themselves into a corner every time. The Driver worked for me though because of the quality of the acting, Morrissey's in particular. Sure, many aspects stretched credibility. But I never once lost interest, and the surprises kept coming right up to the end.

DP moaned his head off and said that the son living with a cult was a total farce and should never have been included. But they had to have something for Vince to bargain with, with his wife. Without the son, she'd have just told him to fuck off.

Something I still don't understand though, why did the police say that Vince was looking at ten years in prison? On what charge?

Panicmode1 · 08/10/2014 09:09

Attempted murder I think - because of his involvement with the beating of the man in the hole.

MorrisZapp · 08/10/2014 09:12

Surely his involvement in that beating wouldn't warrant a ten stretch? .

He didn't do any of the beating, and the guy lived. When rapists get four years and serve two, that doesn't seem credible.

nostalgiaaaah · 08/10/2014 09:47

Perhaps the police used 10 years as a sentence/threat to sway Vince to work with them. He hadn't been involved in crime before and, like me, might have thought 10 years was a correct sentence for attempted murder.

Loved it, a lot to do with watching DM though Wink

CecyHall · 08/10/2014 10:37

Yeah disappointed by the ending here too, feel like I invested 3 hours of my life and got no real closure! I know that's the same in other dramas but the ending made it all seem a bit pointless really.

DameDiazepamTheDramaQueen · 08/10/2014 12:36

I think the violence in episode 2 was fine, they had to show that these men were really hard core. It had to be shocking.

I'd have preferred it if the ending had been right after the phone call from the son and he said 'I'm on my way'

I hate endings that are all wrapped up for you though. I like unpredictable endings.

How come it was still attempted murder when he saved his life by driving him to the hospital afterwards?

Also why was it a happy ending? Just because the son came back? They still have to go in to witness protection, right?

R4roger · 09/10/2014 05:52

part 2 was the better one, part 3, well, it was rushed, particularly with the son coming out. and what will Col do, how nice of morrisey to let col go free.
still at least the baddies, or some of them, are caught.

Wishfulmakeupping · 09/10/2014 06:39

The ending was what I expected it was find for me I like things all wrapped up. My OH was moaning about the cult storyline too said they should have let it out too.
I liked it

isitsnowingyet · 12/10/2014 07:23

I have only just caught up with part 3 as watched it on the i-player yesterday. I have to disagree with the majority here and say that I liked it (apart from the serious overacting on behalf of the teenage daughter - but that may be 'cos I have teenagers and any angst just gets on my nerves!).

Okay, perhaps it was a bit too neat, but what the hey, it kept me interested thru to the end. Great stuff

Both Dh and I quite liked the teenage daughter, thought she was very true to life especially the Facebook comment. Funny how different characters appeal to different peopleSmile

Gatekeeper · 15/10/2014 19:20

I was seriously dissappointed with episode three; petered away into nowt really

I think programmes should be allowed to develop a stronger storyline through more episodes. To see David Morrisey at a high you should watch BBC's State of Play on Youtube...seriously good

WillowWoods · 15/10/2014 22:00

He seemed to enjoy himself in The Walking Dead...
