Anyone else given up on finding a decent radio station?

I've just given up yet again on trying to listen to the radio. All the non-digital channels are just sh*te. I've been at a loss since going on maternity leave, and no longer having access to Radio 6 on my PC at work.

Am I too fussy?

  1. Can't abide local commercial radio stations, all those appalling ads and DJs that sound like imbeciles
  2. Have some kind of problem with every single Radio 2 DJ during the week (Steve Wright being the epitome of this affliction)
  3. Radio 4 far too worthy (post-Today), dramas too often lame, so-called 'comedy' shows dire (apart from the old classics), 'Veg Talk' FFS what is THAT all about?! etc.
  4. Radio 1 playlist too repetitive
  5. Radio 3 too much opera and things with a volume level that veers wildly between whispering and deafening
  6. BBC Local radio - does ANYone listen to these stations??

So that leaves me (since I don't live in a major city) with sh*te-all to listen to. I would tune into Radio 6 via cable, but I can't stand having the TV turned on.

Just realised that I sound like a ranty old woman.

God... Humphreyscorner and Cheesyfeet - LincsFM is CRAP. The playlist is tiny. And why do they always say that 'through the cameras, traffic is moving freely down Broadgate'... when clearly it isn't coz I'm stuck in it.

Radio 4 in the weekday mornings and early evening

Radio 2 Saturday for Jonathan Ross (switch it off when those 'comedy' clips come on afterwards)

My DP loves Radio 2 so it's always on in his car and when he's home during the day

Ripe for AXING (with a blunt axe ) :

Radio 2:

  • Elaine Page
  • Sunday Love Songs (whoever is presenting it, and Steve Wright you should be ashamed of yourself)
  • Fran off Terry Wogan

Radio 4:

  • Libby Purves' hideous middle-class dinner party-esque 'Mid Week' ... those patronising, tortuous, tenous links between her guests, aaaaargh!
  • Anything with Melvyn Bragg (yawn)
