Anyone?

MEB- I'm sure it would happen a lot less often if there were some serious consequences.

MiddleEarthBarbie · 11/09/2014 21:24

But the consequences won't address the roots of the problem. If the school can work with him to overcome the needs that child has, they'll have more success.

I am not saying there shouldn't be behaviour management involved- there should. But you've got to look at the bigger picture.

oh wow, he's just struck a nerve here, dd could be like that at his age Sad

FuzzyWizard · 11/09/2014 21:32

The two aren't mutually exclusive. We do a lot of work with behaviour support services, have in-house counsellors, learning mentors and a zero tolerance policy on violence. We offer a lot of support for our students but they have to serve their punishment too. For violent behaviour that is an exclusion in all cases in my school. As a result violent behaviour is very very rare. We owe it to the rest of the students to keep them safe and it's not right that a minority students, however troubled, be allowed to lash out at others in that way. Litter-picking is a disproportionately lenient punishment IMO.

This is so true about the football stuff: the number of incredibly talented kids who nevertheless get tossed aside by the big clubs' academies is frankly frightening. And it leaves the kids feeling so rejected.

OhMyArsingGodInABox · 11/09/2014 21:44

Halil reminds me of my 10yo dd. Push push push, and then explode.

Nerf · 11/09/2014 21:44

Poor granddad.

Gosh this is hard to watch.

OhMyArsingGodInABox · 11/09/2014 21:48

He's so far into his sulk that he just can't climb out. It's heartbreaking to watch.

This just shows how vital it is that the school has good working relationships with the parents and carers. The kids who are really up shit creek are the ones who have family that also shout the odds and who won't cooperate.
