Oh goodness, Simon's all sweaty and beardy, John looks like a living skull with bad high lights, Nick and Roger look exactly the sameShock

It's been 30 years since their posters adorned my bedroom walls and I taped the top 40 on a Sunday evening but I STILL remember every word of every song they wroteBlush Grin I even know how many beats to pause between words

Weirdly my Dh looks like Simon, complete with beard. If you'd told my 13 year old self that one day I'd marry a Simon look a like I'd have laughed and told you not to be ridiculous I'd be married to JohnGrin Grin Grin

Oh the music and production was amazing Sparkling, completely different thing from the lyrics Grin, the only way the got away with them....well! that and the fact it was the 80's!

ssd · 30/08/2014 23:12

you mean he plays the guitar too? Wink

Sparklingbrook · 30/08/2014 23:12

And they all played their own instruments and wrote their own songs . Now we have groups like 1D who do neither.

ssd · 30/08/2014 23:14

who'd be young now, eh sb Grin

Sparklingbrook · 30/08/2014 23:16

I sound ancient don't I ssd. I bet if I was 15 now I would be all over 1D and probably Harry Hairstyles. Blush Oh and Dougie from McBusted. Grin

DameDiazepamTheDramaQueen · 30/08/2014 23:16

Sleep-I would've fainted! I'm so jealous! I've danced with Brian Ferry in my yoof Burt would swap that for your experienceGrin

can you imagine it!!

there must be some talent out there for the young'uns these days but I'm buggered if I can see it

Sparklingbrook · 30/08/2014 23:19

I hope you put him straight Dame Grin I have the Rio CD in the car. The boys are mortified.

It's either Rio or Ellie Goulding. Grin

ssd · 30/08/2014 23:20

Brian Ferry, David Sylvian, JT...they dont make them like that these days Grin

DameDiazepamTheDramaQueen · 30/08/2014 23:20

Did you watch the classic albums doc sparkling? Bob Geldof said the same, he was very complimentary about them and said they are a rock band with synthesisers.

I've only just come across this! I completely missed this last night so I've done a search and it's repeated on Sky Arts 1 on Thursday at 6.00, just in case anyone else missed it (or wants a second perv-fest).

Roger Taylor here all the way - he'd still get it Blush

Whiskwarrior · 30/08/2014 23:25

Oooh and Working For The Skin Trade is on Sky Arts 1 on Wednesday at 10.00am. I love that one.

Sparklingbrook · 30/08/2014 23:25

Is it this Dame? I missed it on the TV but it seems to be in about 6 bits on You Tube?

Sleepwhenidie · 30/08/2014 23:41

ssd shameless plug for young talent as there's a connection for DH but watch out for a young group of very lovely and incredibly talented young men called Flyte Wink. We have our fingers crossed they will be well known soon but so much luck involved....

Sparklingbrook · 30/08/2014 23:51

Will do Sleep. We heard it here first. Smile

Sleepwhenidie · 30/08/2014 23:53

Dame it was quite surreal, even more so with DH there! Fainting would definitely have been inappropriate Grin, I don't think I was especially coherent cool though! They were all really nice and seemed to be loving the fact that they were still getting to do their stuff with an appreciative crowd!

Tell us more about BF...the man who stole his own adult son's girlfriend! What was he like?

Sparklingbrook · 31/08/2014 00:04

I need to go to bed but I am transfixed by Nick Rhodes talking about not loving Sri Lanka. Grin

LeonardWentToTheOffice · 31/08/2014 00:08

I found my old WHSmiths maths set at my mum's tonight including an extremely pointy compass. From my 1st year of secondary school so aged 11/12ish so t'was 1981/2 ) DS's new compass in his new maths set (not WHSmiths btw) is nowhere near as pointy!! Anywhoo when we finally managed to decipher what was scratched into the lid (most probably with said pointy compass) there were the names Duran Duran (DS said what's 'Duran'? pronouncing it completely wrong!) John Taylor and Simon Le Bon. Also was 'Me 4 Gary'????? I can only assume that was Gary Kemp. Also had 'Ant Music' Scratched into it too. Fickle creature me!! Grin I loved how beautiful they were then. Not so much now! A little like me too Hmm

Sparklingbrook · 31/08/2014 10:37

Leonard why did your Mum keep your old (v dangerous) maths set? Grin

We had to cover all of our exercise books. The centre poster from Smash Hits was the perfect size. I definitely had this one on one of my books.

So who just watched the DURAN DURAN concert on sky?
DameDiazepamTheDramaQueen · 31/08/2014 12:51

I'm watching Videos that shaped the 80's now-blimey Girls on Film is shocking, I'd forgotten how many nipples were on showGrin

Sleep- I was young and managed to blag my way onto a celeb party,I still can't believe I managed it tbh. Brian Ferry was great but John Taylor would've been AMAZINGGrin

I never understood why the girl in The Chauffeur video had to be topless-even as a teen. Grin
The Girls on Film video is frankly unnecessary.

How about a JT montage to Hold Back the Rain to brighten our Sunday?

DameDiazepamTheDramaQueen · 31/08/2014 13:32

Oooooooo.... thank you sparklingThanks

Sleepwhenidie · 31/08/2014 14:12
