Ah - so many of the posts since my vent have made me laugh or smile. One of the best things about Doctor Who, imho - its lovely, witty fans (excluding the totally psycho chapter you find on some of the more specialised forums, obviously...)
I am totally on board with each new Doctor being "not quite himself" in the first ep after regeneration and know I will love PC's incarnation as I always end up at least fond of every Doctor.
My patience with the Moff finally went on Saturday, though. It's been building for a while and it's not the loopy plots I have a problem with, really, frustrating though they can be. And anyway, Saturday was fairly straightforward (although I agree the fire/flame theme could have been fleshed out a bit more - excuse the pun
).
It's how he deals with and develops (or not) female characters that winds me up. They start as great ideas, strong characters - and then.....?????
I'm so glad I wasn't the only one irked by the Jenny posing scene. Seriously, can anyone come up with a reason for that to be included beyond it being a piece of titillation; a sexist gag (and whether it was said by a female lizard makes no odds, it was written by a man) about fooling a woman so she poses in her underwear??? It added nothing to the plot.
Thank god he didn't write next week's ep. Zawe Ashton's one of my favourite actresses and should surely be a great shout for a female Doctor at some point. Hopefully they haven't made her character a pathetic squib
