This season has been fabulous so far.

If you watch the wedding scene again very closely, especially the wedding feast, focusing on Sansa's necklace, there is a clue. (At around the time of the speech ThreeLannisters mentions). But it might only be obvious if you have read the book.

Hi badvoc!

I have read the books, but will keep a look out re Sansa's necklace. Did anyone think Sansa and Tyrion looked like they might be getting on a bit better.
I do wonder about the future for those two.... I think they could be good for each other.
Is there any idea about the next book being ready yet?

Little bits I liked

Fat Walda's arrival.

Sansa's silent support of Tyrion during the wedding.

Margaery's diplomacy and tact - showing what a great leader she makes.

(In fact I found it fascinating watching everyone's reaction to Joffrey's antics).

Cersai and Brienne and how differently each treats the other.

Title says ' spoilers allowed', so therefore it is my pleasure to reveal the killer of Joffrey was none other than the queen of thorns.
Her motives:
Protecting her precious grand daughter from his madness, king joffrey the first.
Paying back Tywin for the marriage contract he forced Loras/Lorell (knight of flowers guy) into.
Ensuring that the realm has someone slightly more biddable in charge.

She's not the only one.

Oh and little finger as always had his little fingers in the plan.
I actually laughed out loud at purple reign. Grin
I love the arrival of fatWalder too, she looks exactly how I imagined her to.

I've been thinking about the books recently and it's becoming more obvious that as the men get murdered/gelded/join the NightsWatch/Kingsguard, the lower ends of the family trees are being winnowed out to be more and more female. If you look at the legitimate heirs apparent I'm seeing Asha Greyjoy, Arianne of Dorne, Danaerys Targaeryn, Arya and Sansa Stark (for all anyone except the Boltons know) Margery Tyrell and of course Shireen Baratheon once Stannis meets his (surely) inevitable gloriously ethically conflicted but heroic end. I don't know where the Lannister line is heading apart from the Mycella vs Tommen chess game, but I do suspect that one or two of the Lannisters are not actually Lannisters. The only undisputed and acknowledged legitimate male heirs I can think of are Robin Arryn and the newly legitimated Ramsey Bolton (who has to be doomed to a horrid end if prayers are ever answered).

If GRRM pulls Jon Snow out of a hat as the list legitimate Targaeryn heir (secret marriage?) to come out of nowhere to take the throne then I'll be less than chuffed.

(I know that there's another allegedly legitimate male heir under the radar, but he's not actually publicly acknowledged yet)

Very interesting ImAT

Margaery still has a brother, Willas, as heir to High Garden. I'll be thinking about the rest all day I think!

OK, I admit it, it's a fair cop. But who wouldn't want to do away with the little shite? Grin

The pie seems to be a distraction on the non-spoiler thread (aka The Unsullied on ASoIaF forums!).

i dont think Theon is 'broken' at all. I think it's a very long term game plan.

Purple wedding was very good, although it lacked a pig joust and in my mind - in the books - was indoors and at night, so felt a little surprising.

Much anticipation for next week - although I think this is where I start to feel a little sorry for Cersei - the violent death of a child (even Joff!) usurped by Margery and demoted to 'lady' by the Dornish 2nd prince - this is where things start really falling apart for her and I feel she is brow-beaten into so much by her father, that whatever she does is to try to cling on to power - because women without the power of a 'good' marriage in this society have very little.

I loved teh scene between Cersei and Brienne. I love Brienne. :)

I think that at this point Theon is completely broken. His pov chapters are as Reek. He's learned what he has to do to survive, and is completely under Ramsey's control at this point.

I thought they wouldn't do the pig joust and was prepared to be all sniffy about the lack of it. Actually, the programme did it better. Classic Joffrey. I think Cersei was the only one not looking uncomfortable.

I think theres a flicker of Theon in there. I'm rooting for him!

Great acting from those playing Theon, Joffrey, Margaery and Shireen I thought.

AryaOfHouseSnark · 15/04/2014 14:01

I do think there is a tiny flicker of Theon left, we see a bit of it in his final chapter in adwd. I think the further away fron the badtard the more of Theon we see.
I agree, brilliant acting. I think they nailed it. I actually felt a bit sorry for Joffrey.

ImAThrillseekerHoney · 15/04/2014 14:13

Theon was broken, but not beyond repair. Mance and Bran provide the handholds he needed to drag himself back to the surface.

Well, yes, we know from the books that Theon's still there, but at this moment in time I really think he's out of his mind and completely broken.

I wonder if we'll see the kids get rid of the iron throne and do away with monarchy?
I would like to think that Lessons will have been learned, but GRRM will probably have the whole cycle begin again.... Sad

AryaOfHouseSnark · 15/04/2014 14:52

Ah yes I agree Viv, and I can't blame him. The Bastard is by far the scariest and most evil character in the books imo.
