What did you think?

OP posts:

I always thought the same as Chillie that Billy was going to get Amy to vote for Martha.

I was wondering if the Monk family had abducted her - after all she was told to run!

wintera · 01/04/2014 15:43

I still think she buggered off back home to Bolton myself. They seemed to be making out she'd had enough of it all. Don't blame her either she was surrounded by tossers let's face it.

jenniferalisonphillipasue · 01/04/2014 19:05

I too always thought that he was trying to get the vote for Martha. Also that the exagerated body language was due to hormones I.e he picked up more feminine behaviour such as being tactile.

HermioneWeasley · 01/04/2014 19:08

I had no idea what happened, it's like they finished mid episode. Poor show.

Why woukd Martha need to do a runner? She wasn't in any danger?

wintera · 01/04/2014 19:31

I don't think it was that she was in danger, I think it was just suggested that she'd had enough of it all and that she gets so invested in her cases that it would slowly eat away at her.

MissOtisRegretsMadam · 01/04/2014 19:55

Was billy a bully? I liked him! Was so disappointed in Clive too I thought he would come good in the end and it would turn out Harriet was bent and he would expose her.
I rewound it about 3 times to see where Martha buggered off too as I thought id missed it! I was just glad jake came back though.

pookamoo · 01/04/2014 19:57

This play from Radio 4 might be of interest, if you're Silk fans. Smile It's the story of Jake. There are 3 episodes planned.

wintera · 01/04/2014 20:05

Clive was always a bit of a tosser though wasn't he? I've recently re watched the other two series and he certainly was in those. I'm glad they didn't get him and Martha together, she was too good for him.

JazzAnnNonMouse · 02/04/2014 09:25

Clive was always a tosser agreed but I had hoped he would turn good, sack practise manager and not be a wanker

I am glad I'm not the only one that was left thinking what happened. All this promise of a twist, there wasn't a twist at all but an ambiguous suggestion of a number of possible options. I even wondered if they were trying to imply that Martha and Mickey were in fact the same person (but couldn't figure out how!) Most disappointing.

ChillieJeanie · 02/04/2014 15:40

I was disappointed in Clive this series. He was definitely an arse in series one but had improved, I thought, in series two. This time round he just didn't seem to have a lot to do, and although he's ambitious I thought it was off that he was written as pushing for Shoe Lane to become a prosecuting chambers only when he knew that Martha wouldn't go for that. Especially given his feelings for her. In series one, they were exclusively defence!

Nennypops · 02/04/2014 22:15

I think she'd have to leave, if only because it was going to become an exclusively prosecuting set of chambers and there was no way she would conceivably be able to do that. She might well get out of the law, but I'm less certain about that.

I agree that the legal procedure is crap. There is absolutely no way the prosecution would have been allowed to introduce the evidence of either the gun or the coat without notifying the defence in advance and giving them the opportunity for full forensic tests.

invicta · 02/04/2014 22:57

I thought she was going to,get run over at the end.

mrsjavierbardem · 03/04/2014 10:17

I have only seen this series so am sorry it's over.

But Clive is shown to be good in many respects but most men in his position would fall into a Harriet-type's adoring arms wouldn't they? I mean Martha was offering him nada. Apart from a weird snog where she appears to faint without explanation. He said several times that she put work first in every instance. It 's a rare man that will choose a woman who puts him 2nd place ALL the time. I thought the chambers politics was quite plausible at the end, a coup based on a successful groups own interests. Billy and Martha are presented as passé. But the disappearing behind the bus was a bit pants. They obvs couldn't think of another ending!
Love Maxine Peake.

wintera · 04/04/2014 11:02

You should watch the other two series, they were well better. On netflix if you want to watch them all.

Bue · 04/04/2014 13:13

That was the last ever episode?! In that case, it was rubbish! First two series were much, much better.

My main puzzlement is, who in their right mind would vote for Clive as head of chambers?! Confused

Bue · 04/04/2014 13:17

I don't mind the concept of the ending - power struggle, changing of the guard, end of Shoe Lane as we know it, but the disappearing behind the bus thing was just weird.

Looking forward to the radio drama, thanks for the heads up!

fairycakecentral · 04/04/2014 18:42

On The a Wright Stuff this morning the telly guy was saying the ending was a production decision to say to the been - look at what you're missing. Pretty crappy on the viewers if their ending was to stick if to the beeb. Crap endings are one thing, deliberately odd is another. That really annoyed me when I heard that
