a young person who did her bit for sport has died and the footballs more important? shit.

JuanPotatoTwo · 05/05/2014 11:12

Sad news :(. Think it was only March she was diagnosed? Life is shit sometimes.

Raahh · 05/05/2014 11:50

I have just seen thisShock

So soon after diagnosis, so very, very sad.

And it is shit, that her passing doesn't warrant a mention on some channels. Just proves my point that as far as some media is concerned, tennis only exists around Wimbledon.

I think Ross Hutchins was planning another charity event after Queens. I hope it still goes ahead.

Thanks

NoMoreLies. To be fair I was watching Sky News at midnight last night and it was a breaking news strap line running under the screen and it was the lead item on Sky News.

RIP Elena: goodness knows how you managed to play all those years with primary sclerosing cholangitis, which is a horrible disease.

Glad to see the Rally for Bally on 15 June at Queens will still go ahead, but sadly in her memory.

JuanPotatoTwo · 05/05/2014 12:13

Seems a bit insensitive after the news about Elena dying so apologies - but please can you all pep me up re dd?

I miss her so badly, more as each day goes by, rather than less. I cannot go into her room without crying and if I think about her it makes me cry - so I try not to think about her:(. If she comes back in time for uni in Sept 2015 she will be away for ds1's 21st, ds3's 10th, Christmas and both mine and dh's 50th. And what if she decides not to come back? Or meets someone out there? She rang last night but, conversely, hearing her voice makes me feel worse not better.

I know many people have much worse situations to contend with so I feel very selfish, and I also know that she's loving her time and it's an invaluable experience for her. I tell her I miss her but not in a guilt-trippy "Im so sad without you" way - but I miss her right through to the middle of me. I never thought I'd feel this way :(

magimedi · 05/05/2014 13:37

All I can say is that my DS left home 15 years ago & I still miss him. In the last 7 years we've only had 2 Christmases with him (works in tourism) & with him being abroad only see him 3/4 times a year. I miss him lots but am used to it now. I reckon it took me a good 3/4 months not to feel weepy each time I went into his room. And he is my one & only!

You'll be fine, just takes time. How often do you chat? Maybe if it's more than once a week or so it makes it worse, not better.

She's having the time of her life, she's young & experiencing her first freedom, be happy for her.

Otherwise I WILL COME & VISIT YOU!!!!!!!!!!!

Be afraid, be very afraid! Grin

JuanPotatoTwo · 05/05/2014 14:51

Thank you muddled. I can imagine how bereft you must have felt when your ds left home. At least I have others to concentrate on. I am happy for her, maybe I'm still going through the adjustment process . We speak maybe twice a week, but WhatsApp several time daily.

I think if you visited it would be a good thing - the ensuing verbal sparring would distract me nicely :)

magimedi · 05/05/2014 15:22

I honestly think you should be stopping the daily contact, if you can. I can't imagine that - but of course when DS left home it wasn't available.

Now we speak once a week, sometimes more often & maybe a couple of emails a week.

Mind you, it is much easier since he got married - I am no longer his next-of-kin!!

DramaAlpaca · 05/05/2014 23:05

Juan it's not easy when they leave home is it? DS1, who is 20, is only a few miles away & comes home every other weekend or so, but I miss him desperately when he's not here. It's like I can feel his absence physically.

DS2 is the same age as your DD. Not meaning to sound stalky Blush but I think I remember from lurking on the last thread that they were actually born on the same day Smile. DS2 should have gone to uni last year, but due to health issues which seriously affected his exams has had to defer for a year. I am dreading him going away and having two of them no longer under my roof.

I can only begin to imagine what it's like having one of your precious brood on the other side of the world. I suppose you have to look at the positives - you've raised an independent young woman who is stretching her wings into adulthood. But it's terribly hard letting them go Sad.

Thinking of you Flowers

Mama1980 · 06/05/2014 07:46

Oh Juan I do feel for you. Thanks
I can only say just try to focus on the fact that you have raised a beautiful independent daughter who is having the time of her life. She can only have these experiences because you have given her the skills and opportunity to do so. The time I spent travelling was amazing.
I would also try to maybe contact a bit less, my mum and I would speak twice a week but a proper talk (was before mobiles/Internet so I would have to buy a phone card, find a phone box etc) for half a hour or so. My mum actually asked for me to do that rather than call lots but little if that makes sense,
My dd is about 18 months younger than yours, (she has been mine by sgo since she was 9) years of therapy and support and she's doing great now but the idea of spending time where she cannot reach me is to utterly terrifying for her still to even consider the Gap year trip I so so want her to experience. So it truly is a testament to your great parenting and relationship that she can do this. Focus on that and be very very proud of her and yourself Smile
And now I'm going to stop waffling on sorry! Blush

How's everyone's bank holiday been?
I took my lot to the coast, was fun but crazy as usual, my crutches don't work in sand (why did no one warn me?! ) so I ended up crawling with dp my youngest strapped to me still, chasing my 16 month old.

Looking forward to the tennis today planning a quietish day so I can actually see some hopefully. The fognini match should be good.

JuanPotatoTwo · 06/05/2014 16:09

Alpaca and Mama, thank you both so much for your lovely words. You've both made me cry again (although, in all honesty, that doesn't seem hard to do these days :)). It isnt easy when they leave, you're right - you think it's time and that you're looking forward to it and that they're ready. Then it happens and you suddenly realise the mess you always moan at them for doesn't matter as much as you always thought it did and that they were babies but two minutes ago! But - it's how things should be, and I'm very grateful that, touch wood, my dc are able to forge lives for themselves.

Alpaca - dd's birthday is 21.02.1995. Is that the same as your ds2? My ds1 is 20 too - wonder if they also share a birthday?! I hope your ds2's health issues are resolved now. Mama, you're a much braver person than me going to the coast on a bank holiday?! Was it very busy?

Dogsbollocks has put out Foggy in Madrid. Foggy not having too good a year thus far.

Fed pulled out of Madrid now - dropping like flies they are.

magimedi · 06/05/2014 17:20

They are all saving themselves for Paris!!

Fed has said he'll drop out of FO if Mirka drops then!

Wonder if Djoko will play??

Bank holiday was productive! As we are both retired (yes & OLD, before Pesky says it) we tend to use them for doing jobs around the house & garden & venture out (not yet on zimmers Grin ) at other times. Garden looks good & house clean & I even cleaned out the fridge, which is my most hated task of all but makes me feel v saintly when I've done it!

Believe it or not, Pesky you do get used to them being gone! When DS & DIL were here for two whole weeks last year I was quite relieved to have the place back to ourselves when they left!

magimedi · 06/05/2014 17:42

Have just seen that Fed's reason for dropping out is baby related.

Wonder if she'll have twins again?

purpleprincess · 06/05/2014 21:27

Magimedi how strangely prescient.....you were right about twins....look here. That must be quite rare....but congratulations to them. Now they are 6!!

HarveySchlumpfenburger · 06/05/2014 21:30

I was just coming on to say that. He's just posted it on FB. Who are you really magi? Any other predictions?

Mama1980 · 06/05/2014 21:48

Ok magi that's some prediction, or do you have insider info? Eyes magi suspiciously......
Huge congrats to them.

The coast wasn't too bad Juan, think everyone thought it would be and stayed home. We paddled, went on rides (my children not me!) ate fish and chips, ice cream, candy floss....'twas lovely Smile

What has happened to Stan?! Am finally getting to watch some tennis, while bfeeding and he s all over the place. Theim is playing well though in fairness.

Nadal had better not fluff it now- it's pretty much his to lose. Ferrer in theory is his main competition now.
