Monday 9.00pm channel 4

I'm definitely watching this and I hate to admit it but years ago i was infact one of those ignorant people who thought young girls had babies to get houses, benefits etc etc. I saw the clips for the show and felt so sorry for the girl who was upset about her child living in a cold house, but i suppose there are going to be folk who say you made your bed lie in it. This is going to be a very interesting and sad watch

Saw this as "critic's choice" in the papers today and sounds interesting.

I don't have television but would like to know what the programme was like and what everyone else thinks after watching this.

twinsetandpearls · 13/08/2006 18:08

Ia m recording this to show to the kids in school if it is any good.

trinityrhino · 13/08/2006 18:08

i have already set it to record, I felt for her just from the advert

Quootiepie · 13/08/2006 18:14

Im going to give it a watch... but I get easily upset.

twinsetandpearls · 13/08/2006 18:18

It will make me cry, mainly beacuse although I was never a teenage mums i have lived in similar situations to many of the teenage mums I work with such as hostels, B&Bs arguing iwht benefits offices etc. Will ahve to wtach it several times before showing it to my classes so I don't start to blub in front of them!

TheLadyVanishes · 14/08/2006 15:36

my sister was a teenage mum, infact 2 of my sisters were and they both ended up in council flats in not so nice areas and they did have it tough, I vowed never to have children until I'd done what i wanted to do with my life (i have a gorgeous 14th dd now) but i sometimes feel my sister missed out

expatinscotland · 14/08/2006 15:38

My SIL was a teen mum two times over.

It was hard going, b/c she also had an abusive partner.

But she finished her hairdressing qualifications in May and has been working in a job she loves.

She is in council housing but w/hope she will be living in our building soon w/her two sons!!

SO proud of her.

NomDePlume · 14/08/2006 15:39

It will have DH in bits, he can't watch anything like this. Bless him. We will watch it though.

Marina · 14/08/2006 15:41

I want to see this too. Good to see a thoughtful, objective documentary on the subject.

Quootiepie · 14/08/2006 21:09

On now

schneebly · 14/08/2006 21:10

at damp houses and chips and peas for tea.

Nemo1977 · 14/08/2006 21:13

Am also watching..very sad about the tea for the kids I will say some people I know living on benefits etc have been extremly lucky and have 2 bed houses etc in semi decent areas so think it depends where you are and when.

expatinscotland · 14/08/2006 21:15

'I will say some people I know living on benefits etc have been extremly lucky and have 2 bed houses etc in semi decent areas so think it depends where you are and when. '

That's really lucky. Chances of that happening here in Edinburgh are astronomical.

This girl has been through the mill and she's only 20!

How shameful, in a nation as wealthy as this . . .

Nemo1977 · 14/08/2006 21:18

Expat I used to work on a estate in liverpool where a few of the pnd mums had a lot of money and had been given decent houses in the process of being redone with new bathrooms/kitchens windows etc although I do know it is rare. I also know we live as a family on less than some of them had.

schneebly · 14/08/2006 21:18

It is awful what some people are subjected to when others lie and cheat and steal their way to things they are not entitled to and get away with it!

Quootiepie · 14/08/2006 21:18

Makes you want to get out and do something to help...

Nemo1977 · 14/08/2006 21:19

not just incinuating it was pnd mums by the way as I also worked wiht other people who had sod all.

expatinscotland · 14/08/2006 21:21

That poor girl, having to grow up w/such a pisshead and she still loves her so dearly.

Nemo1977 · 14/08/2006 21:23

her mother is awful but I can understand the 'shes my mum' disappointment and responsibility to being her daughter

bubblerock · 14/08/2006 21:24

My step kids mum has had some lovely houses from the council over the years, including new builds. She has recently been given a 5 bedroomed house on a new estate.

Nemo1977 · 14/08/2006 21:27

it is just luck isnt it bubblerock and I think who will shout the loudest.

Blondilocks · 14/08/2006 21:29

I wanted to watch this but totally forgot it was on until I just saw this thread. I haven't seen any adverts but saw it in the tv magazine. Is it a one off or a series?

Is/ was it any good?

expatinscotland · 14/08/2006 21:30

That's hard to believe that can happen in the UK.

Guess there are more houses elsewhere.

They're a real rarity here.

bubblerock · 14/08/2006 21:31

Definately! Also depends where you live, we were in Cheltenham and had a lovely 2 bed flat given to us within 6 months - without a permanent child! It helped us start out and we only stayed a little while before buying a house.

YellowFeathers · 14/08/2006 21:31

Oh christ this is sad
Happy christmas
