Monday 9.00pm channel 4

I'm definitely watching this and I hate to admit it but years ago i was infact one of those ignorant people who thought young girls had babies to get houses, benefits etc etc. I saw the clips for the show and felt so sorry for the girl who was upset about her child living in a cold house, but i suppose there are going to be folk who say you made your bed lie in it. This is going to be a very interesting and sad watch

It really makes you think.

Nemo1977 · 14/08/2006 21:39

shes being really good with the dad.

expatinscotland · 14/08/2006 21:45

The dad's probably 20, too.

expatinscotland · 14/08/2006 21:46

They sure do go out a lot for not having a lot of money.

bubblerock · 14/08/2006 21:47

They can still afford real fags though!

Nemo1977 · 14/08/2006 21:48

I agree expat..lol Just trying to remeber when I last went out as every spare penny goes on the kids first.

expatinscotland · 14/08/2006 21:50

DH couldn't afford real fags and we both work.

There's a bloke in his work who goes on booze cruises and sells 50g grams of baccy for a fiver.

Quootiepie · 14/08/2006 21:51

im 20!

Nemo1977 · 14/08/2006 21:53

agree they have £35 a week to buy food and luxuries yet they can smoke, drink and go out. I think part of it is prioritising[sp??] I am not saying no luxuries as everyone deserves a treat.

bubblerock · 14/08/2006 21:55

Yep when we smoked we changed to cheap roll ups and it used to amaze us that people could still afford to smoke on benefits.

Beetle73 · 14/08/2006 22:00

Cigarettes or not, I thought she was a very impressive young woman (is that patronising??)

I wish it hadn't ended so abruptly. Does that suggest that things haven't been going so well for her, and they've got no heartwarming news to give us?

JoolsToo · 14/08/2006 22:02

brimfull · 14/08/2006 22:03

I thought they were both lovely mums.I wanted to help them ,felt quite sorry for them.

poppyh · 14/08/2006 22:04

When you think of this girls life so far i think she portrayed herself really well. She came across as really strong and independent.

schneebly · 14/08/2006 22:06

Jools - I am watching that now on living plus 1!

misdee · 14/08/2006 22:07

it made me feel so sad.

but also angry, that Abby(?) couldnt afford to heat her temporary flat, but she was smoking. i did notice those kids were layered up to keep warm. the kids tea od chips and peas made me sad.

Alla's (??) mum made me very sad. Alla seemed very much the mother in that respect.

i remember after peter was dx, there was a [period of two months were me, peter and dd1 were living on £120 a week. we had to make some rent payments as housing benefit didnt cover the whole lot, had to pay council tax while we waited for it to be sorted out. we were living on value meat and veg.

melrose · 14/08/2006 22:09

What amazing young women, not sure I would have coped so well at that age and I have a supportive family. Makes me feel very lucky to have all i do, wish i could do something to help them!

yes but, I loved the way her children said 'thanks mum' for the chips and peas - and they were so young! She's doing a fab job.
I just came away with the feeling of ''NO! What happened next?''
But as one of them said ''it's not a soap''
