Does anyone else watch it? Or is it just me...

I love it because it reminds me of another life when I used to sew (before the DC's came along and before I lost the footpedal to my sewing machine in a house move).

The contestants are just so talented and I like the beardy man judge too. Anyone else?

She's a sweetie.

I remember using shearing elastic in a machine like they're using. This is taking me back Smile

I have never got on with shearing elastic in the bobbin....luckily you I found you could buy it 'made up'

Oldraver · 25/03/2014 21:19

Shit ..watching them sheep has made me spell 'shearing'

Halsall · 25/03/2014 21:21

oldraver Grin

'Shirring' was universally pronounced 'shurring' in my day (I'm not that old btw). Wonder when/how it became 'shearing'?

Roussette · 25/03/2014 21:22

Awww poor David. Well done Heather (she can't believe it!)

OP posts:
Roussette · 25/03/2014 21:23

oh heck! It probably is shirring! I'm on the sheep with Oldraver!

OP posts:
Halsall · 25/03/2014 21:25

Patrick and May say it too, though!

youbethemummylion · 25/03/2014 21:26

I could only ever sew on Grandmas hand driven machine rather than Mums electric due to my inability to coordinate hands and feet. Its a miracle I can drive!

Roussette · 25/03/2014 21:32

Heather's is rather too simple I would have said but what do I know...

Oldraver · 25/03/2014 21:32

I used to buy 'cheats' shirring..it came on a roll and was different widths with 3/5/7 rows of elastic with invisible thread woven between the rows which you sewed on. I cant for the life of me remember what it was called. Twas brilliant for kids dresses and skirts

Halsall · 25/03/2014 21:37

Gosh. Coats! That is hard

Roussette · 25/03/2014 21:37

Gosh... this is a hard task but they have done some preparation. And 6.5 hours with it pre-cut! I'm expecting wonderful creations.

Love it! David is making a Police coat - good on him!

Jellykat · 25/03/2014 21:42

I love Lindas and Chinelos coat shapes..
Smile at Davids cop coat.

Oldraver · 25/03/2014 21:43

I used to make police hats, the fabric could be lovely, nice soft wool. I wonder if they use modern fabric or 'olden day' stuff

Roussette · 25/03/2014 21:44

OldRaver - I'm impressed! David's fabric sounds and looks very thick!

OP posts:
Oldraver · 25/03/2014 21:47

Yes I've just gone eek as it sounds like he is using something quite thick and he hasn't practised setting in a sleeve (though I'm sure they have done this previously.

The fabrics for the hats are very fine wool depending on the spec

Roussette · 25/03/2014 21:51

How clever they are. I am so impressed

OP posts:
Halsall · 25/03/2014 21:52

Grin @ David

Love Lynda's.

Jellykat · 25/03/2014 21:56

Impressed here too!

Oldraver · 25/03/2014 21:56

Heathers looked really nice but she should of done the sleeve bottoms like a tailored jacket so it didnt show the bulk (tis easier than hand sewing as well)

Roussette · 25/03/2014 21:57

Oh they are going to MISS david so much.

OP posts:
Jellykat · 25/03/2014 21:58

Aww, he did so well.

Halsall · 25/03/2014 21:59

Dress with no pattern? No challenge for Chinelo, then!

Roussette · 25/03/2014 22:01

Back to 8pm next week everyone!
