Does anyone else watch it? Or is it just me...

I love it because it reminds me of another life when I used to sew (before the DC's came along and before I lost the footpedal to my sewing machine in a house move).

The contestants are just so talented and I like the beardy man judge too. Anyone else?

Ok no, you're right JK - more Hmm than fashion brilliance

Jellykat · 18/03/2014 20:33

Lyndas is best i reckon

Roussette · 18/03/2014 20:34

Good decision. Lynda's is the only one I would consider wearing!

Jellykat · 18/03/2014 20:35

Well done Lynda!

Must admit i've warmed to Heather..

oif · 18/03/2014 20:47

I've warmed to Heather too but I think she's probably going tonight.

They all seem to be having a good time this week.

Echocave · 18/03/2014 20:47

This is a really enjoyable episode so far. Heather and David are a hilarious combination. I can't see for toffee but they seem to be really skilled this series.

Roussette · 18/03/2014 20:48

Chinelo already has a scarf on in the contrasting fabric of her trousers! Is this allowed?!

It will make the overall effect much more co-ordinated won't it..

OP posts:
Echocave · 18/03/2014 20:49

Oh except they're not working together. Err. You know who I mean.
I think David might be the worst but might get kept in as token man (she said, rudely).

Jellykat · 18/03/2014 20:49

At college we had to use a special board to iron velvet on, to ensure the pile wasn't flattened.. they're not eh? Just not cricket!

oif · 18/03/2014 20:51

i think Jenni's been the most consistently weak, but she has also come up with some pretty good stuff. David has actually done some very good stuff. Heather's style isn't really my cup of tea so I haven't really loved any of her 2nd or 3rd challenges, even though some have seemed technically pretty good.

Think Chinelo's are going to look fab.

Roussette · 18/03/2014 20:55

Heather looks fab in hers! What a great figure she has

Someone else had a scarf that matched the lining on her trousies too - was it Heather? I thought that was clever.

I've sewed with velvet - I made myself a maternity dress when I was pregnant with ds1 - and recently I took the skirt off it, and made into a skirt - it's not very good, and the waistband is appalling!

TunipTheUnconquerable · 18/03/2014 21:17

Heather stayed. Good Smile
Given how little experience she's had, Jenny is amazingly talented, but ultimately she doesn't yet have the skill the others have. Her lack of experience showed in her choosing the ultra-tricky velvet.

DebbieOfMaddox · 18/03/2014 21:34

at really needing a prick stitch on the fly...

SDTGisAnEvilWolefGenius · 18/03/2014 21:36

I heard that bit, but didn't make the connection. You have a dirty mind, Debbie!! Grin

Amandine29 · 18/03/2014 22:07

Heather looked amazing in her trousers Envy

SDTGisAnEvilWolefGenius · 18/03/2014 22:22

David's trousers were nicely fitted, and looked neat - but velvet trousers did not flatter him.

outtolunchagain · 18/03/2014 22:31

Really pleased for Linda , sad to see Jenny go , I know her trousers didn't go well but Heather also had a very poor first two rounds

Roussette · 19/03/2014 08:01

Yes Heather did have a matching scarf too I think. I forgot they'd practised at home so vaguely knew what they were doing. Next week quarter finals!

OP posts:
LIZS · 19/03/2014 08:06

don't they supply their own materials and pattern for the fitted challenge, hence why Jenni's choice of velvet was criticised.

Roussette · 19/03/2014 08:09

Yes LIZS I think you're right. And I think I know what that slippy fine velvet feels like, the thing is, it didn't really hang right did it? It almost looked like trackie bottoms and not at all structured.

OP posts:
DebbieOfMaddox · 19/03/2014 08:17

I think that's where her lack of experience really showed. The more experienced sewers heard that they needed velvet and went out and got the easiest velvet to work with; Jenni, who'd only been sewing for a year, bought fabric she liked but that was a complete nightmare from a sewing point of view. It's a shame, because she did well on the first two challenges and if she'd just picked a better fabric she'd almost certainly have done well enough to stay in. Heather, who must have been facing the drop after the first two challenges, made some good choices and so pulled off a flawless final challenge.

DebbieOfMaddox · 19/03/2014 08:20

Next week's sounds intriguing. I wonder what the "game-changing garments" are?

Roussette · 19/03/2014 09:25

Yes next week's does! And sewing on 1930's machines? Crumbs! My Mum had one of those, it will undoubtedly not be electric will it or will it. This could be interesting!

OP posts:
TunipTheUnconquerable · 19/03/2014 09:31

Oh wow, love the vintage machine idea.
I grew up sewing on my great-grandmother's 1880 Jones and I've just fixed my 1940 Singer (both hand-cranked) to teach dd because it's easier than an electric machine IMO (more control of speed) but I wonder if any of the contestants have never done it before and if so, whether they'll find it hard.
I hope they'll have a nice range of old machines, not just all identical Singers.
