three, don't worry, I am a one man woman and it's Pot all the way for me (unfortunately, as I am old enough to be his mother). Never fear, Boris is safe.

raahh, your doc is speedy. Glad you have a bit of relief.

Okay! I will hide Boris clay - why am I hiding him exactly? But seriously, no problem, I have a nice spot in under my bed he can hide in for as long as is necessary. When's he coming over..?

I have spent the evening after college doing things in preparation for Storm Charlie - had to shop - no food here at all. Plan was to go tomorrow - just no - not after I stood at reception this afternoon and watched the weather forecast. Had to sort out my Nan. Had to lock down the bins, bolt sheds, gates, get cat litter as they will never go out to poop in a storm!
Ds is as prepared as he is ever going to be - he's charging every single game console he owns and has produced a secret stash of crisps and chocolate in case he is stranded in for days with no leccy... That aside, he says, he will sleep then sleep more then sleep more - sounds like a plan.
Wherever you guys all are (do not divulge - have you seen the thread in chat about somebody finding a Mn poster and telling her husband stuff!?) Stay dry, stay safe if it hits with ferocity predicted.
I am in Swansea - i could not give a hot who knows, I have no Dh and I need Boris to find me in an emergency.

HarveySchlumpfenburger · 07/02/2014 22:01

From magi she's trying to take Rafa from Raahh. Clearly she's not content with just El Potato.

Good plan re: Storm Charlie. I'm pretty much doing the same. Need to remember what I did with the batteries for the torch though. Or the torch for that matter. Boards and sandbags are still in place so hopefully won't be going downstairs to discover high tide is in the building again.

We've acquired the top of a litter bin though. Must be one of the green round ones from the town centre.

Did see the beginning of that thread. I think the OP's had that name for ages though and has a various points put her full name, twitter handle and e-mail address on the site. I do have some MNers on FB but I trust them not to out me or do anything as stupid as in that thread.

threebats · 07/02/2014 22:14

magi you utter harlot... How many do you want for crikey's sake!?
You are collecting them like trophies what's your secret cut it out!

SandbagsShock had no idea it was that bad where you are clay please stay safe and as dry as possible.
rafaisthekingofclay is really Sandra Bullock! I have outed her!

magimedi · 07/02/2014 22:50

magi you utter harlot...

So proud of that epithet!

I want the lot - but not Boris - he's just too blonde for me!!

The more the merrier & I am up for it!! Bring 'em on. Grin

I saw the start of that thread & thought that no one should ever post anything they would not want known on the internet. I like Scottishmummy's tag of: "trust nae fucker" & think those are very wise words.

Raining & blowing her but nothing compared to those of you in the W or SW - stay safe, hope you can all hunker down with Cake or choc!

HarveySchlumpfenburger · 07/02/2014 23:08

Was only twice for a couple of hours at high tide. And we didn't flood the second time because the sandbags did their job. Stupid spring tides + storm swell + strong winds meant tide came up 500m higher than normal. I'm really not that close to the sea that you would ever expect flooding from a high tide. We've inherited next door wheelie bins too. Somehow they came over the little half wall between the two properties while half full Shock

OK I admit it. You've outed me, threebats

magimedi · 07/02/2014 23:08

Oh I play really nicely - if you pluck the right strings!! Grin

JuanPotatoTwo · 07/02/2014 23:17

muddled's been drinking again, she always has delusions of grandeur when she's had a few - thinks she's bloody Marilyn Monroe. Didn't I tell you lot all along what she's like? Would you listen? No, well you've only yourselves to blame when she makes her move. Fortunately, Pot has a very beautiful wise head on those beautiful shoulders of his and knows a loose woman when he sees one - let's hope the other lads look and learn from him :)

Stay safe everyone. -three, I think hunkering down sounds like an excellent plan. Clay - have you been flooded before? You might have to be rescued in the middle of the night by the marines - every cloud and all that! My ds1 is home this weekend to say goodbye to dd who is off travelling on Wednesday until the end of May. Dh is absol chomping at the bit to come home to sped these last few days with dd before she goes. I will be in total bits on Wednesday, I warn you all now. Please god let her come home safe and well. At least Pot will be (wrist pain allowing) playing tennis next week to hopefully distract me a bit.

Have good weekends all.

Never, Juan. And I've been living in this road or the next couple for 13 years. It was stupidly high. Nobody else expected it to flood either. I'm on the 1st floor so it will have to get ridiculously high to flood my flat rather than the communal areas.

Maybe I can send magi some Royal Marines to distract her from your tennis players. There are some very hot new recruits this year,

threebats · 08/02/2014 07:28

magi!!!!!! Oh I play really nicely - if you pluck the right strings!! I had a mug of hot coffee in hand when I read that - there could have been a scalding...
But I see you do not want Boris which means you can be as floozie as you desire. I will look the other way...

Tides are not as high this week as last clay it doesn't help if the wind brings the tide in I admit, the waves and all that but they are lower in height this week - I think the next significant tides will be April but do not take that as gospel.
Its pouring here, lashing down and it is a wee bit windy but I would not say this is a weather system fitting of a name, not yet..., thus far anyhow.
Up early to scrub the house so rugby can commence this afternoon - both games in a row, on couch, hot water bottle and nibbles (sadly not of the Boris sort).

magimedi · 08/02/2014 08:05

Sober as a judge I was - Wink

Where is your DD going, Pesky? Gap year? I do hope they let your DH out asap.

Low pressure doesn't help those high tides, either. Hope you are still all OK & enjoy the rugby, three.

HarveySchlumpfenburger · 08/02/2014 10:19

Looks like the high tide level has dropped from 4.5m at the beginning of the week to 2m today. I thought spring tides were monthly so it should be high in March. If it wasn't for the storm surge It would have come this far. So we should be OK. Not removing the sandbags just in case. Not too bad here yet. Bit windy (but has been since Dec so nothing new) but nothing like Tuesday night. These things happen if you live near the seafront I suppose and it's no where near as bad as others in the SW.

Have settled myself in front of laptop with winter olympics on for now. Life is tough.

magimedi · 08/02/2014 11:02

Early March will be the next Spring tides - you are right they happen monthly.

Enjoy the olympics! [ski]

HarveySchlumpfenburger · 08/02/2014 11:04

Hmm. Should maybe have checked the forecast before I posted that. BBC/EA and Met office seem to be saying - phenomenal off shore waves with bad inshore forecast, a strong storm surge and high winds coinciding with high tide and midday. Bugger.

magimedi · 08/02/2014 11:17

Batten down the hatches, Rafa

PS Have forgotten whereabouts you are?? Can you give a rough idea?

HarveySchlumpfenburger · 08/02/2014 11:26

SW coast. Think this forecast might be wrong. Sun is out and it's breezy, but force 6 maybe not the force 9 they say it is going to be.

Might nip out to top up the snack selection.

threebats · 08/02/2014 12:26

Ey you guys are right, we do get spring tides each month but I always thought April and September were the two most pivotal months for it? For as long as I can remember, people around here watch the tides in April and September as they are higher than usual?
Its probably bollocks and all these years I have gone about my life thinking April and September were the months for kick off with tides if bad weather preceded them - I am going to have to investigate... the amount of people I must have ill-informed over the years. Tut. They must all think I am a pleb...

HarveySchlumpfenburger · 08/02/2014 12:42

You could be right about April and September tides being higher than other months. I've never really thought about it. I only really pay any attention to heights when I go past and think 'that's tides very high' or 'that's very low'.

Just been looking at picture of seafront on FB. Does not look good at all. Someone described it as fucked. I think that's a fair summming up.

magimedi · 08/02/2014 14:22

It's March & Spetember - around the 20th of each of those months that we get the highest tides. It's due to the equinoxes - when day & night are of equal duration.

I love the sea, was born by it & have never been really happy living away from it. I can always tell you the time of high & low tides for the nearest cost to me. Yes, I am a geek!

HarveySchlumpfenburger · 08/02/2014 14:28

I was thinking equinoxes. I love the sea too. Have always lived by it too (can't really get far away from it on Guernsey). Used to know the tide times as a child. not so much now I live here.

Wind's just picked up and started bucketting down about 2-3mins ago. I'm going to settle down in front of the TV with hot chocolate, snacks and a blanket I think. It's foul out there now.

magimedi · 08/02/2014 14:53

I think we could have a truce on the tennis thread. Except maybe on Muratti Days.

magimedi · 08/02/2014 15:19

OK - truce it is!

Mind you, I haven't been back since last century!!!!!!!!

HarveySchlumpfenburger · 08/02/2014 15:24

This Xmas was the first time I haven't been back to stay for Xmas. Hopefully will go back sometime this year.
