three, don't worry, I am a one man woman and it's Pot all the way for me (unfortunately, as I am old enough to be his mother). Never fear, Boris is safe.

raahh, your doc is speedy. Glad you have a bit of relief.

I'm not very invested in British tennis which is wrong I know so whereas I do like Davis Cup I can't say I'm particularly looking forward to Friday - but I will watch it all the same.

It's one more reason to bring up the 'R' word with Federer, I suppose. The next thing will be dropping out of the top 10.

But he gave it a good go this week.

And I saw Stefan.

I need to get dressed.

purpleprincess · 26/01/2014 11:42

It's great to waffle bout tennis. Especially is you don't have people in RL to waffle with although my dad did just ring me up to chat about it. Eurosport now going to do review of the whole tournament so may as well watch that as well.

threebats · 26/01/2014 11:43

I feel the same way juan but I will watch to save myself the torture of regular Friday night Tv...
It will be all about rugby around here for the next month to six weeks anyhow. I will be trying my hardest to think up ways to pull the players and cor at their backsides and legs and wish beyond wishing for the good old days where they used to fight on pitch.

Raahh · 26/01/2014 11:44

I'm not fussed about Davis Cup at all. I've never watched tennis as a 'Brirish' fan- I have always just supported the players I liked. Who have just never been British.

Raahh · 26/01/2014 11:45

Right, enough of this prevaricating...

LeBearPolar · 26/01/2014 11:45

Gutted for Rafa.

Enjoyed Stan's playing in the first set: real grace and power. Went right off him after his strop at the umpire about Rafa's medical break and suddenly he started looking like a moody teenager rather than a champion.

Trouble is that for me no-one can beat Rafa's humility and graciousness in defeat. I love that about him more than I love the raw power of his tennis, I think. Was horrible to see him barely able to move at some points. I'm glad he got one set back but I hate to see him cry Sad

Raahh · 26/01/2014 11:47

Lebear- he does have a humility that other's don't always have. And doesn't make excuses. Unlike some.

JuanPotatoTwo · 26/01/2014 11:47

I do like the six nations - Cardiff after a welsh win is the best! No, I can't think of a single British tennis player who I've ever got really into. Shame really.

Intolerable that I have to go do the ironing now while mourning the passing of another Tournament. There should be therapy available to get over the ending of a tennis tournament...
We didn't even have the Tennis for this one.

noddyholder · 26/01/2014 12:12

Dont think rafa will play Davis cup too risky before the French which is his tournament

anonacfr · 26/01/2014 13:18

I was hoping to see Roger in the stands wearing a suit and shades and a big grin on his face... Grin

magimedi · 26/01/2014 14:53

Just finished watching it - could hardly bear to watch the last game.

Can I just make it perfectly clear to everyone that El Potato is all MINE.

I didn't want to out myself, but that was me with him on the South Bank.

Pesky Juan is not well & deluded - just pity her.

LetZygonsbeZygons · 26/01/2014 17:33

once again a triumph overlooked by the oponents injury. ffs.

Well done Stan. about time. and you would have won anyway, you've been playing brilliantly to beat Djoko too.

disclaimer-didn't see match, but I heard a commentator say Rafa was booed by a few people when he was making his speech? why?

JuanPotatoTwo · 26/01/2014 18:18

Didn't hear him being booed when making speech but did hear it when he came back on after his MTO. At that point I think people thought he might have been swinging the lead a bit, but it became pretty clear over the rest of the match it was a genuine issue.

Most people seem to be saying that if Stan had carried on playing g the way he did in the first set he had every chance of winning anyway.

muddled - did you have strong anaesthetic at the dentist the other day?

OP posts:
Raahh · 26/01/2014 18:56

Juan- agree re Stan winning, and the MTO. No one in the right mind would let themselves be elbowed like that for no reason. But there are always people willing to think there is something suspicious, especially when it comes to Nadal. I think the booing may have been when the sponsors were on- no-one seemed to like themGrin.

And this is Stan's second tournament win of the year- not a bad startGrin- he's ahead in the WTF ranking list alreadyGrin

I hope someone found a suitable orifice for Castle's asterisk. Grin

anonacfr · 26/01/2014 19:16

I think he was booed because he disappeared and the umpire wouldn't tell Stan why (which is against the rules). Then the umpire announced 30 seconds and Nadal strolled in two minutes later and walked to his end and towelled himself off etc and the umpire didn't utter a word.

He was clearly pushing it. But then he always does when it comes to time regulation and his effing towel.
Seriously he starts on the first point of every match- he can't be that sweaty that it requires a full body swipe? And then of course he proceeds to fiddle with his earlobes, nose, hairband, sleeves, arse crack.... Can you tell that I'm not a Nadal fan? Grin

I think they should ban towel use during games just like they used to.
I also feel so sorry for the ball kids who get sweaty towels flung at them often at their faces and then get told off at each point if they take more than half a second to produce said sweaty towels.

LetZygonsbeZygons · 26/01/2014 19:35

anon yes! totally agree ! im not a nadal fan either but we try not to bunfight too much on our tennis chats!

LetZygonsbeZygons · 26/01/2014 19:36

think it was Greg Rudeski that started the towel use thing.

magimedi · 26/01/2014 20:11

It was indeed Greg who started the whole towel thing - I think it should be stopped.

And why does Rafa (who I used to love before MY Potato came on the scene) sweat so much? I hesitate to say it, but could it be the result of something he is taking? There have been a lot of people who are convinced that Rafa is taking something & that his time out from tennis a year or so ago was an imposed ban by the authorities who did not want to bring 'the game into disrepute'.

JuanPotatoTwo · 26/01/2014 21:28

I'm too young to remember Greg . I wish I could sweat like Rafa, the weight would drop off.

Grin* Juan

I'm very sad that there is now no tennis tomorrow.
And that i missed a week of watching it because I didn't know I have sky sportsBlush.
So now I know, I am hoping there will be lots of tennis to come.

JuanPotatoTwo · 26/01/2014 21:45

I feel sad too Raahh, this is why we have to go and live in tennis land. There are three tournaments starting on 3 Feb I think but don't know if Eurosport or Tennis TV will be showing them.
