Anyone watching? The last two have been very good but last night's one about the cult reminded me a bit of an episode of Whitechapel.

Loving it, watched them all so far and intend to watch the rest. Do you know what happened to Read's family? Was it in a previous series. I've got a bit confused from watching so many series set in the same kind of era. Did his wife end up in a hospital or something, or was that a different show?

mileysorearse · 04/12/2013 13:31

The child died in the boat accident, I think Reid had allowed his wife to believe that there was some hope that she was still alive as a body was never found. I am not sure how though. Reid also had an affair with the woman that ran the children's home so both things combined led to a breakdown that we didn't see onscreen. I think the wife is in a psychiatric hospital.

I thought his wife had left him to do some charity work?

diddl · 04/12/2013 13:38

Didn't she set up a shelter & went to live there?

mileysorearse · 04/12/2013 16:39

She did set up a shelter when they were still together but the other things happened after that and were not seen on screen. We were shown things like Reid picking up his laundry from Long Susan's place and him going home to an empty house but we didn't find out what happened until he went to see that guy in prison and had to tell him the full story in exchange for information. He said she got drunk and had a breakdown, pulling off her clothes in the street and that she was in an institution.

Ooh-missed that!

squoosh · 04/12/2013 19:05

Absolutely love this show can't believe it's been cancelled!

I'm actually furious, what did the BBC expect putting it up against I'm A Celebrity Watch Me Eat A Kangaroo Arsehole.

mileysorearse · 04/12/2013 19:07

Oh no, I hadn't heard that! Sad

Sad that's bad news!

diddl · 04/12/2013 20:10

I'm enjoying it, but I don' t think that it's a patch on the first series tbh.

Can't belive that anyone watches such dross as I'm a zeleb, though.

I'm still fuming, haven't been this annoyed at the BBC in a looooong time. It's a disgrace they won't invest in drama like Ripper Street yet merrily squander £25m on The Voice!

I've signed it! 1600 so far is pretty good.

mileysorearse · 05/12/2013 09:35

I've signed too, it was up to nearly 2000
