Starting a new thread quickly before tonight's results show! We talk too much Grin

Thanks Grin it is about time but I'm not so sure Grin

digerd · 07/11/2013 13:09

I have said it before about having only one Ballroom expert - Len. Arlene P was also stage dance experienced only. No doubt Craig and Bruno have read up on the ballroom technique and Darcy too, but they are by no means experts. Karen Hardy is, and known/popular with the viewers.
Perfect choice, but which male judge should go? Craig and Bruno are the 'personalities' Grin

PolkadotsAndMoonbeams · 07/11/2013 13:20

But Len doesn't really talk about technique much any more.

I think it would be fun to run it like a proper competition one week, all the couples on the floor at once, doing the same dance, with 5/6 judges standing around the floor. It would be interesting to see if there'd be a difference.

Perhaps have 5 judges Grin It would be good to have 2 women.

Good idea Polka that would really sort 'em out.

FrankelInFoal · 07/11/2013 14:12

I've often wondered if the judges would be better off marking different aspects - 1 for technique, 1 for performance, 1 for choreography, etc.

TheHeadlessLadyofCannock · 07/11/2013 17:37

Frankel, surely the choreographic strengths/weaknesses/flourishes of the pros are part of the appeal and entertainment value of the show though?

Also, with every dance I think the pros have to walk a line between not annoying the judges too much by flouting too many rules, and making an audience largely made up of lay people like and want to vote for their sleb.

A level playing field is obviously needed for serious competitions, but let's face it, Strictly is only part technical competition; it is in large part an entertainment and popularity contest.

Having said that, I do think they should reinstitute the show's previous feature of making half the couples do the same ballroom dance and the other half do the same Latin dance every week. This used to allow for much more meaningful comparison of couples, as well as giving the Beeb an opportunity to tick the 'educational' box by wheeling out Len to say a few words about what each dance should look like Smile

TheHeadlessLadyofCannock · 07/11/2013 17:39

x-post, Frankel. I agree that marks for different aspects of the dances would give much more meaningful scores.

digerd · 07/11/2013 17:39

On DWTS the audience show their disapproval when Len mentions faults with the technique. They have only one non-ballroom expert in their panel of 3 and that is BRUNOGrin. The lady judge is lovely.
Strictly with 5 judges? If they all had a say it would last too long for the producers, I reckon. I can imagine that Darcy quite likes being the rose between 3 thorns. Grin. 2 male experts with differing views could get quite heated.
Ian criticised Darcy's comment about the technique of the flicks, and said they should have a pumping action with the lower legs and shouldn't be extended into straight legs . He demonstrated too.

FrankelInFoal · 07/11/2013 17:57

digerd, a prime example that Darcy doesn't know what she's talking about half the time! Ballet is so different to Ballroom/Latin, in ballet your feet move and your body follows whereas the opposite is true in a Ballroom/Latin.

thistlelicker · 07/11/2013 18:31

Kristina just gives me the rage Sad

Amandine29 · 07/11/2013 18:45

Anyone watching ITT? What was the swearing Zoe mentioned? I didn't notice anything.

thistlelicker · 07/11/2013 19:09

I didn't notice anything, Ben looked puzzled

digerd · 07/11/2013 20:16

Indeed Frankel. Darcy even got up and showed her lovely ballet trained legs off doing a ballet placed extension as an example of how it should be done, wrongly unfortunately.
Also, when she critised the front develope of, I can't remember the name now, and said she should keep her supporting leg absolutely straight. That applies to ballet but not Latin Rumba. I think it was Abbey?
She should study Joanna Leunis.

digerd · 07/11/2013 20:20

extention

digerd · 07/11/2013 20:24

Christina has hurt her toes and will have to dance in flat shoes on Saturday. That will make her much too short for Big Ben. It was an accident while training.

Didn't hear any swearing but popped quickly into kitchen to put my dinner on so must have missed it.

MooseBeTimeForSnow · 07/11/2013 20:36

I think Artem has a sense of humour. Anyone remember that ITT when Artem was practising his routine and James joined in?

ppeatfruit · 07/11/2013 20:42

No you were correct originally with the spelling of extension digerd Grin but you're right about ballet and straight legs there are very few positions that require bent supporting legs. I think the swearing was Ben saying something was bloody (but not as swearing I think he was describing a costume or something that was bloody in the halloween show).

RedPencils · 07/11/2013 20:48

Ben said 'Christ' when Zoe asked him something about Having his top off.

I love artem, but I'm not feeling the love for Natalie. She's too good for the show.

ppeatfruit · 07/11/2013 20:55

Yeah RedPencils I wasn't paying attention properly sorry Blush Agree about Natalie and Artem.

MooseBeTimeForSnow · 07/11/2013 20:56

Thanks RedPencils

digerd · 07/11/2013 20:57

ppeat
Stupid english language and stupid getting older tired brainGrin.
Ben seems so nice. Hope his jive thrills me and that he wears a shirt and skin tight rocker type jeans.

ppeatfruit · 07/11/2013 21:08

Ben has a sweet personality but IMO he just doesn't have a dancers' body or 'feel' IFYSWIM better than Dave but almost on his level. That backward flip that louis taught him was sooo flat footed it's a shame.

Digerd I agree on both counts about english and being tired though Grin I'm off to bed Grin

digerd · 07/11/2013 21:32

Hadn't seen Artem and James doing the rumba before. Artem looks embarrassed and keeps giggling, James is really getting in to it and giving it his all in an OTT way.
But James is taller and bigger than Artem, so why was James dancing the female role as too heavy for Artem.?
Loved James' ending, but why did he keep rubbing his tummy through out the dance?Grin

digerd · 07/11/2013 21:45

Oh, I see, James was just helping Artem to practise as Natalie wasn't there. He is however much heavier than Natalie and hope Artem didn't suffer any injuries. He definitely appeared to be suffering while James had a whale of a timeGrin. Very entertaining.

FushandChups · 07/11/2013 22:11

Wasn't the Artem/James rumba a couple of years ago? Either that or I'm reliving some slightly odd dream i've had Grin

Can't get the video to work on my stooopid phone!
