No i dont think so thistle he has the personality of a plank bless him I dont see any chemistry between them

FrankelInFoal · 05/11/2013 18:44

DSI make the dresses for the show, so they get the money. My understanding is that the BBC pays DSI a flat rate contract fee to supply the dresses and what happens to them afterwards is up to DSI.

Oh dear, can't help but think Natalie comes across as arrogant who thinks she better than anyone else

mrsjay · 05/11/2013 18:50

I do think they like to spice it up with a bit of gossip and she is young and blonde and booby he is handsome Hmm and exotic and forrin and opens his shirt
but there really is nothing there imo

CloudOfStarlings · 05/11/2013 20:01

I heard some of the dresses also end up on cruise ships for their dancers.

I agree, nothing there with Abbey & Aljaz! She seems smitten with her hubby and little girl. Janette Manrara (pro who was with Julien MacD) has been tweeting madly today about the spread in OK magazine featuring her and Aljaz 'at home' - barfworthy pictures but I think she's pretty keen to make it clear he's hers! She mentioned it several times on ITT too!!

thistle I keep hearing from everyone that they can't warm to Natalie. I have to agree but I honestly think it's cos she's partnered with Artem who is just such a task-master and so serious. My sister & I were saying today that we reckon if she was partnered with Kevin or Robin she would have been much more cheeky/funny/relaxed. They should have given her to Robin I would have loved to see that.

Looks like poor Dave has been getting a real twitter backlash...I just laugh at idiots who say stuff like 'if he had any humility he'd quit the show' or (and this is a genuine quote from a facebook 'friend' of mine) "I'm just so FRICKING ANGRY!! Why don't the people who vote open their eyes and vote for the ones who CAN ACTUALLY DANCE!!!!!!!!!!!!!" - GrinGrin hahaha. Poor Dave though, he's just trying his best.

ppeatfruit · 06/11/2013 09:44

CloudOf did you see STT yesterday? it was interesting hearing Artem defending his choreography against Karen. He explained that he thought more of showing off his partner than the specific 'rules' of one dance against another. I googled SCD and it tried to explain the marking Confused also no mention was made of what the judges were looking for. I do tend to agree with that FB quote!!! Dave has slightly improved too Grin

The designer said that a lot of different things happen to the costumes including reusing I can't remember them all.

Digerd I can't and won't do links because they leave ones computer open to allsorts Grin.

yesbutnobut · 06/11/2013 10:33

Very good episode of ITT yesterday I thought. Love hearing Karen's take on the choreography - she's not afraid to disagree with the judges and thought Mark deserved a better score and that Susanna should have got 10s. Also really liked the snippet where they showed you how the dance shoes are made.

I agree with whoever said Natalie is like that because Artem is so serious. He's probably not that much fun to work with judging by his interview comments - nothing wrong with that but it's not a 'fun' approach.

TheHeadlessLadyofCannock · 06/11/2013 10:48

I disagree about Artem being serious! I think he has a lovely dry, wry sense of humour, isn't afraid to have the piss taken out of him (see him dressing up in a cow onesie for the 'Natalie at home watching telly' skit a few weeks ago) and comes across to me as very warm.

On another note, Monkseal's review is up! and I have a stupid question. When she calls Natalie a 'ringer' what does it mean?

Listmaker · 06/11/2013 11:10

I love ITT. It has its daft moments but is a lot more informative etc than the live show now they do the silly spoof things instead of actually showing them in training. So you get to know a lot more about the dances and also things like the shoes and the costumes etc. Plus you get to know the celebs and the professionals more.

I agree - don't think there is anything between Abbey and Alijaz. I don't think he's good looking at all - not sure why they all go on about it! And he seems to lack personality! Vincent and Flavia were my favourites but I like Kristina who seems very sweet and caring and Robin who's lovely. Kevin is also coming over very well. Can't put him and Karen together either. She seems very gushy and fake. She was strange with the Westlife chap last year but I thought maybe it was him being a bit arrogant as he never thanked her etc? She seems to get on very well with Dave.

FrankelInFoal · 06/11/2013 11:13

A ringer generally means someone who is a fake, trying to pass themselves off as something they're not. In this case he's implying she's an experienced dancer trying to pass herself off as a novice.

digerd · 06/11/2013 12:53

I missed ITT yesterday Sad
Frankel
It was the "Super Size Freestyle Final", Bit too gymnastic and not enough dancing for me, but was amazing, nonetheless.

Her Rumba was emotional afterwards as her DH was singing the song - think everybody had a tear or two in their eyes. She was very expressive,

CloudOfStarlings · 06/11/2013 13:20

I didn't mean Artem is no fun- he definitely has a sense of humour and clearly a soft side (remembering his emotional VTs with the lovely Kara Tointon). I'm talking about his work ethic - he takes it very seriously. Which is no bad thing, obviously - I'm just saying I think people would have warmed to Natalie more had she been paired with a different personality pro (eg Kevin or Robin)

headlesslady wikipedia definition of ringer-
ringer
Horse racing: An impostor, especially one who misrepresents his or her identity or ability in order to gain an advantage in a competition. In horse racing, when a fast horse was substituted for a slower one that it resembled (a "ring-in"), the term now applies to any athlete entered in a team competition under false pretenses in order to gain a competitive advantage by strengthening the team

Oh also, anyone who needs convincing on why Dave deserves to be in this competition, have you seen this LOVELY letter to him someone wrote on their blog? I'm not a Dave voter by the way, I just hate the way this happens every year that people start to say some celebs don't deserve their place there.
Letter to Dave

CloudOfStarlings · 06/11/2013 13:21

Oh, and yes I did see ITT last night.. I do see Artem's point of view but I have to say I fall on Karen/Len's side of the argument... he should stick to the rules really or he could be coming out every week doing a showdance.

TheHeadlessLadyofCannock · 06/11/2013 13:25

Thanks for the ringer education!

I see what you mean, Starlings. I dunno though. They ALL have a serious work ethic and Natalie and Artem's VTs show them having a laugh just like the others do. I am probably biased though as I'm loving her and Artem together, ringer or not!

PolkadotsAndMoonbeams · 06/11/2013 13:32

Yes, I agree. There's no point in giving them a different dance each week if they don't stick to them!

I don't know, you don't want to 'baby' the pros, but maybe saying "your jive needs to contain at least 5 recognisable syllabus steps" might work? Or rules for how many bars out of hold are allowed perhaps.

OP posts:
FrankelInFoal · 06/11/2013 13:41

That's how I know what a ringer is - I work in Horse racing, so it's an everyday term to me Grin

Polkadots my teacher always said if she were allowed to write the rules for SCD she'd make sure that one of them was no dancing off syllabus/no figures above Gold for the first few weeks. She said she's more or less stopped watching SCD now as so much of what they do is off syllabus and not representative of what people are actually learning up and down the country.

If any if you have done the ISTD Latin Grade exams, it's my teacher's voice giving the instructions on the exam CD Grin

ppeatfruit · 06/11/2013 13:41

Aaaah! I liked that letter to Dave thanks cloud. I remember how many of us were not happy about DVO last year because she never said that she 'd trained as a dancer; I haven't heard Natalie say that she's a trained dancer (she certainly doesn't need Artem showing her off to her advantage IMO!!) .

Apparently Abbie has never trained as a dancer which I find hard to believe Shock.

thistlelicker · 06/11/2013 13:43

Natalie went to dance
School in London !! I believe it's the Italia conti??

FrankelInFoal · 06/11/2013 13:44

ppeatfruit, Natalie has admitted that she danced until about 10 years ago, and her CV says she is "an accomplished" dancer. She has never danced Ballroom before, but has done Latin as well as Jazz, Tap, etc.

thistlelicker · 06/11/2013 13:45

I'm also sure her dance teacher was in a program telling how good she was!!

I don't believe u can be that good a dancer if u haven't danced since u was 10, makes me think she carried it on - I remember her in twitter last year giving very precise critique to last years dancers

Snowstorm · 06/11/2013 13:47

I like Abbie, although I wish she'd stop flicking and re-arranging her hair so much every time she realises the camera is on her. She's obviously got natural rhythm and a very strong work ethic.

I wonder whether she might have a small advantage over some of the celebrities (Natalie to one side, because you can't really compare her with any of the others) because having been a model, she might not have the personal space issue that some of them do when they first have to get up close and personal with their pros. That might have made it a bit easier for her to get on with it ... maybe!

FrankelInFoal · 06/11/2013 13:51

thistle, I meant she says she stopped dancing 10 years ago, when she would have been 19 - around the time she'd have been at/leaving Italia Conti.

thistlelicker · 06/11/2013 13:51

Storm she also pouts when camera on her !!

PolkadotsAndMoonbeams · 06/11/2013 13:52

I was really surprised when I learned 'off syllabus' meant basically anything, as long as it's in the style of the dance (disco paso aside, Iveta...).

I have danced open choreography before and it can be nice (all the kicks in jive for example), but for some dances it really isn't that important, especially if you allowed a few bars at the beginning and end where you could do anything.
