I started watching this but had to stop as I found it so annoying. Yes, they've found dreadful people to focus on, but I couldn't stop thinking of all the people who are struggling on benefits and desperate for a job.

The comment that one of them wants £500 a week in her hand after paying her bills in order for her to get a job- what planet does she live on!!!

Surely she meant a month. A week. Fuck.

Have just started watching on the laptop. Why all the focus on different TV packages? This could have been an insightful documentary about a range of people who could work but choose not to - to give the viewer the chance to see what makes people make that decision.

Instead, it's more "ooo - look at her, she's got a flatscreen TV & gets everything free" malarkey.

So you're swallowing the bullshit that this carefully edited shower are representative of all benefits claimants? Would support more cuts?

Jolly good. That's my family screwed then because they DO include families with disability.

Gullible.... Don't get sick or become disabled, will you? Might get a shock.

where do they drag these people from!?
glad to see the bedroom tax is working in the London area with the young women, unless she is actually working I don't believe she needs to be living in a fairly decent London borough, I do however echo her frustration about benefit withdrawl and training.

The mother of ten isn't going to have a very nice standard of life in another ten years or so, with no employment prospects, when the children start leaving home and the house gets downsized.

Hmm it really works when disabled people are being evicted because the box room that was converted into a through floor lift is still being counted as a bedroom.

Wonderful policies! Let's kill more defectives off!

I've stopped watching - whilst there most definitely are a minority of claimants who choose to be on benefits when they could work, they are by no means representative of the majority who either can't work or can't find work.

No one is living the high life on benefits unless they are committing fraud.

Yet another disappointing documentary.

It doesn't matter how it was edited, these people were not fabricated. One wanted to earn 30,000 a year before she came off benefits and would not be willing to work in McDonald's. I've worked in McDonald's and many other jobs. It makes me sad as I would love a large family. I have one very dear ds but dp says our house is too small for any more. And I have a professional job, so does dp. How are we supposed to keep our morale up?

Bully for you, bordello. I've worked in a variety of positions, been a higher rate taxpayer and a homeowner.

Then my children were born, having developmental disabilities that weren't clear until all had been born. In the early years both me and DH were working parents taking turns with childcare.

I'm now a carer on benefits in social housing. I suffer because of crap like this that people like you choose to swallow wholesale. So yes this documentary is disgusting, as are the people who swallow the bullshit it spouts.

By the way do you know kids' DLA decisions are currently taking SIX MONTHS whilst families aren't getting any money to fund care needs and losing motability? Yet we can't complain as there's no minister for disabled people?

Report
oksonowwhat · 14/10/2013 23:36

Do they really say a room thats converted to a lift is a bedroom???? FGS thats ridiculous!!!
I may be naive but surely its the families with loads of kids that seem to get loads of money on benefits...? I can't imagine an older woman with older kids living at home would get much benefit or money to live on? Or a couple without children? But then i don't know much about it.

Ok that has certainly happened. Featured on my local news, family near Southampton.

I was also made liable for bedroom tax despite being housed in my current home due to medical necessity. I have reams of paperwork to confirm it's medically necessary to have a house the size of the one I'm in.

Took a hell of a fight but we overturned it. Then you get smuggers without a clue saying it's 'right'? That further benefit cuts are necessary? I'm seeing the sharp end of these cuts as I know many families with disabled family members who ARE affected despite government denials.

A man near me. Needed dialysis 5 times a week, found fit for work and got his ESA cut off. Couldn't afford to get to dialysis so died.

Eleven thousand found fit for work. Dead.

And people swallow this excrement.

Gobby not one person on this thread has suggested that the families filmed for this programme are in any way representative of benefits claimants in general. You seem to be reading a different thread.

I know many people who have recently applied for DLA for their children. I don't know anyone who is having to wait anything like 6 months for a decision. Is the MP involved because that is a disgusting delay.

Report
GobbySadcase · 14/10/2013 23:49

I know of a minimum of 20 families across the country waiting six months. Others significantly over the DWP stated 12 weeks.

Thing is people are watching this and other propagandist documentaries and newspapers and they are opining over 'benefits claimants' tarring everyone with the same brush as a minority (one of which tonight I suspect was an actress).

This kind of programming hurts real people. It leads to hate incidents against families like mine. It's not just entertainment or something to tut at. Real lives are directly affected by people watching this stuff and believing it.
