He didn't try to kill her; he was trying to reconnect with his family, with the only child left close to him. The scene earlier when his wife lay down on the track in the same place, and he rescued her, was showing that they used to go there. Although he was so obviously a saviour in that scene that I think it was a dream or distorted version. They are all haunted, of course, hence Eddie Marsan's habitual "she's out early", in the split second before he woke properly and remembered.

I think this drama is astounding it really is.

I'm not entirely sure it was totally implausible, the town essentially drove him out and blamed his late dad for something he didn't do.

the news broadcast was great.

You could be right Octopus. He fought going back, he knew there was so much anger in him at what happened to his father that he could not be impartial or professional.

I also like the fact that Paul (?) whose family died was a cheating weasel. Not everyone touched by tragedy is sainted and blameless (although obviously he is blameless in their deaths)

Agree Alcon about the sainted blameless comment.
The acting in this is compelling and top notch. Its a harrowing watch.
And its very plausible.

I thought that was v. good too a lot of his 'romantic moments' were her saying all her dreams and him being like 'nah not for me'.
She was a bit crackers wasn't she? blackmailing him to say he loved her, I thought maybe both are baddun's' here in an emotional fuckwit way.
And trying it on with his sis in law Shock

Whats that wierd music thing at the begining?

I'm not usually confused but I really couldn't get into it again last night. Maybe I need answers more quickly!

Hormonal at mo and found this hard to watch last night. Was in tears when Paul was singing by the motorway bridge.

Will sound stupid but Rory Kinnear IS Roy Kinnear's son, yes? Looks so much like him.

yes he is Roy's son.

I love Greg Kinnear personally Grin

the two army blokes, man whose wife was shot, and his uncle, will have to get outed for their involvement.

and he told the social worker he was tired, and her reply, I'm tired too, and she missed his call.
thus her daughter gets killed.

so perhaps the killings weren't random

I'm not really enjoying this. I've watched it so far and will watch the last one, but I don't warm to any of the characters (in fact, I actively dislike most of them), and it just seems rather cold and unemotional. I'm not drawn in IYKWIM? That funeral of the wife that was being cheated on that was like a wedding managed to be both tasteless and gruesome IMO.

Eddie Marsan was fab. Amazing tv.

Compelling but painful to watch sometimes. The acting is superb - the actor playing 'Paul' is amazing, you just want to punch him Angry! And the bit where Rory Kinnear's character went 'off script' on live tv was utterly believable.

Shame Sean Harris wasn't on screen last night, he's such a subtle, powerful actor.

I think last night's episode was really interesting in showing all the different and very bizarre ways people deal with grief.

Desperate to know what went on with the journo's dad.

Also seems odd that they have completely glossed over more than half of the victims so far?

Report
waikikamookau · 12/08/2013 10:27

the journos dad was blamed for people dying but he died, confused about this.

Report
DumSpiroSpero · 12/08/2013 10:31

We don't know what the journo's dad actually did though do we or have I missed something?

Was he may

I can't remember what journos dad did but he got the blame

the factory he worked at, the managment cut corners and a fault in the powerline blew up or something, he died, but was blamed too.

I'm finding the series compelling and very atmospheric. I found it difficult and upsetting to watch in parts last night, the father seeing his daughter in the morgue for example. The guy who plays the father, I forget his name, is a wonderful actor.

I'm still getting confused by the flashbacks. Were the boys in the boat David and Steven as children? I also didn't realise that the couple on the railway were Paul and his wife as teenagers. Perhaps I need study-notes for TV dramas!

I don't usually watch dramas like this, but I was drawn to this one because of the cast. I think it's very gripping and the acting couldn't be better. I cried my eyes out at the morgue scene.

Report
waikikamookau · 12/08/2013 12:13

yes I think they were david and steven , I think they were friends as they had both been made outcasts.

Didn't like the bloke singing by bridge at the end - assume he's gonna kill his self? :(
