Dexter - can anyone tell me what happened last series?

I religiously watched all new series of Dexter, and was up to the one where the finale was when Deb walked in on him at work with the doomsday killer

I missed pretty much all of the next series and sort of cant be bothered to catch up, my series link seems to have sorted itself out and is recording the new series so I need someone to fill me in on anything crucial I missed!

But in a nutshell, Deb kept Dexter's secret. La Guerta was on to Dexter and was trying to prove he was the bay harbour butcher, not Doakes. She got a criminal released from prison and set up Dexter to kill him so she could catch him in the act. The last episode ended in a stand off between Dexter, Deborah and La Guerta and Deb shot La Guerta dead. Season 8 started a couple of days ago and it is awesome!
