Anyone watch it? It's winding up in the next 10 minutes. Very sad :(

I was interested to see how court worked and I learnt quite a lot

He had a motive. Divorce proceedings. Splitting the money (he was referred to as money obsessed) was too much for him to bare. There was also rumours of her having an affair. I am doing jury service in august so watched with real interest. I would have found him guilty. I think dick got the car, kidnapped and
Murdered her on frasers orders. That makes them both guilty. But dick is slippery to say the least. Played the system. Did a deal, turned to prosecution and got off with serving a year for perverting the course of justice. My heart goes out to Arlenes family.

Daisypops · 10/07/2013 22:21

I think the property was searched. Im sure I saw footage of scenes of crime officers in white paper suits walking to the farm machinery.

The machines they referred to ground things down to dust. Perhaps forensic science wasn't advanced enough 10 years ago Confused

Bumpotato · 10/07/2013 22:37

I'm sure Dick gave evidence that his farm had not been searched.

The judge did say not to take any of his evidence into consideration though so maybe even that was a lie?

The trial was heavily edited to have those who don't know the case to get a dramatic twist at the end (they do it every week on the apprentice).

I've followed the case from the point when Arlene had been missing for one year. I loathe Nat Fraser and personally took a bit of satisfaction at seeing the arrogant wife beating scum of the earth getting found guilty for a second time.

TwelveLeggedWalk · 10/07/2013 22:40

Daisy I'm sure they said in the documentary that his farm was never fully searched? Because I did a lot of shouting at the tv at that point! I guess not do many years ago they didn't have the resources or technology to search as thoroughly as they do nowadays, but it still struck me as very odd.

Didnt realise that there was so many people from the area on here. Thought i was the only one.

I have always thought he was guilty but that he shouldnt be the only one in the dock.

I was close to tears the whole way through. I was surprised Natalie agreed to the program as throughout the years you havent see or heard from neither her or jamie in the media at all.

Bumpotato · 10/07/2013 23:38

Natalie talking about her mother was heartbreaking.

The videos that were presumably taken by Nat of Arlene sleeping were creepy I thought.

Daisypops · 11/07/2013 21:30

I think Dick was told he would be prosecuted just for perverting the course of justice ' if he have evidence against fraser. Thats why I think he isn't in the dock for murder.

diddl · 13/07/2013 21:41

I just watched it.

Harrowing.

If there were others involved-he would tell, wouldn't he?

Or not as then he could no longer plead innocence?

But if Dick was involved & in effect only got a year because he gave evidence against Fraser, that's bloody awful.

AmIthatSpringy · 14/07/2013 02:34

I have been catching up on MN and found this thread. Presumably this was about Arlene Fraser? Can anyone tell me when/where this was on?

AnneEyhtMeyer · 14/07/2013 08:06

Springy it was on Channel 4 last Tuesday. Will still be on catch up I suspect.

AnneEyhtMeyer · 14/07/2013 08:06

expect not suspect.

BlackAffronted · 14/07/2013 08:26

I lived in Aberdeen when Arlene went missing, so followed this with interest over the years. I think Dick had far more to do with the whole thing than he has let on ... I think its obvious the car was used and Arlene was disposed of in his machinery :(

Brillig · 14/07/2013 10:21

I'd recorded this and finally got round to watching it yesterday. It was spellbinding but emotionally wrenching - the poor family, having to go through appeal after appeal as Fraser manipulated the system. And he's just done it again - there's a hearing in September apparently.

I did a bit of extra googling and found out about the other friend of Fraser's, Glenn Lucas, who they didn't mention at all (he'd died by then, I seems). He stood trial with the other two and sounds a deeply suspicious character, to say the least.

Also, it wasn't fully apparent from the programme that the Frasers were actually separated, and that he was on bail for Arlene's attempted murder after the attack on her. All of which makes her disappearance sound even more chilling and suspicious.

Agree that the videos were horrible and intrusive. I assume he was the one filming her. I keep thinking about her expression. Awful.

AmIthatHot · 14/07/2013 23:29

I've just watched this and it was very interesting. I knew about the case and was also surprised no mention of the rings. I also found it hard to believe the jury had no reasonable doubt but there was obviously more said in court than we were shown. Dick was horrible.

I was also surprised at how pally the QCs were

OctopusPete8 · 15/07/2013 09:51

I'm watching now , taped it. Nat's facial expressions are wierd for someone on trial on murder.
