I'd love to see those in the final (plus Longyin and Catherine) in a room together just chatting. They all seemed 'kindrid spirits' and not crazy-competative like some of the parents/other kids. I bet they'd have really fascinating conversations.
Even I could spell some of those words! Not 'ytrium' or whatever the heck that was!
I do wish cackling mum would put a sock in it.
Hugos dad... I thought his mum was the main facilitator of his behaviour. Looks like dad is a bit of a know-it-all smuggery after all.
When a child describes other people as 'stupid' or 'common' and the parents grin sheepisy, you can only imagine what goes on/is said behind closed doors.
His little brother (assuming he ever gets off his DS) will most likely go on and do far better/greater things than Horrid Hugo. I can't see them speaking at all when they grow up.
Hugo won't achieve because he doesn't see the point of other people, and when he gets older and finds that his 'superior intellect' counts for not a huge amount in the real world if he can't hold a job (can you imagine him turning up at your office as an intern?) he just won't 'get it'. He didn't seem to understand that he hadn't won but seemed to not particularly care, expected that he ought to have won, and still looked down on the other kids. Why enter a contest that you view with contempt? I don't understand the motivation. If the parents had put as much effort into assessing if he has a problem and/or how to address his behavious/attitude, it would have been better for them all.
