'I'm kicking Big Brother' support thread

I've been awash with self-loathing for the last week and I've just worked out this coincides with the return of Big Brother.
Huge swathes of my adult life have already been wasted on this cr@p. Three months a year for seven years*? I'd rather not do the maths.
So I am going to go cold turkey.
(Though I cannot promise to stay off it for the last month.)
Anyone else want to join?

*Seven years? Is this right?

Am kidding myself that I'm giving up. Last night watched Paul Merton's silent hero's on BBC4 9-10 feeling smug then flicked through Weds Guardian and read profiles of each of the BB contestants. Found myself lying in bed trying to work out if I knew who they all are - so, didn't watch it but still went to bed thinking about them. What's the opposite of cold turkey - Hot leopard? Am thinking of going hot leopard and watching all of it, all the time. BakedP and everyone - help me!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Twiglett · 26/05/2006 08:56

is it really so difficult to resist?

its unadulterated crap featuring a collection of people I'd really not like to meet (in general)

Coolmama · 26/05/2006 09:31

I am so with twiglett on this one - just reach for the remote and switch the tv off - if you have a problem, ask yourself this? - how does watching BB enhance my children's lives and make me a better mother - nothing like a little maternal guilt to get going, heh?

bakedpotato · 26/05/2006 09:53

PMSL Toots. Love 'hot leopard'.

I refrained last night as well. I do feel sort of pure and purged and virtuous. Anything to report on that front, Toots?

Tonight is going to be a problem though.

I find eviction shows easier to avoid as I can't stand Davina.

Enid · 26/05/2006 10:25

have to bow out of this thread as I am mildy interested in them all

cupcakes · 26/05/2006 10:37

lol at 'mildly interested'
unfortunately so am I.
I was trying to watch that Buster Keaton programme but did keep switching round.

booge · 26/05/2006 11:24

Two nights ago I watch the first one since the opening night with all the bullying and I felt dirty, dirty, dirty, uncomfortable and sickened. However I watched it last night too, someone please stop me before I watch any more...help!!!

TwoIfBySea · 26/05/2006 12:21

I gave this up last year, didn't watch one single episode. It is a very easy habit to kick and leaves you time to do better things and watch more entertaining programmes!

Went cold-turkey, it is for the best so good luck people.

elliott · 26/05/2006 12:24

I've decided the only way is....cold turkey on all TV!!
I think I'll be able to do it now that invasion and HOTT have finished...could be BB that finishes me off though....

Toots · 26/05/2006 20:58

Am not getting sucked in. Will read improving novel. Or Eve magazine. Actually will re-paint toenails. That's what Jane Austen would have done on a Friday night when her DH was at the pub.

bakedpotato · 26/05/2006 22:02

Broke my vow, but only for about 90 secs. It was both dull and disgusting. Do you think I am cured?

OP posts:
Toots · 27/05/2006 11:12

That's like having a puff on someone else's fag. However, it is a start. And disgust is excellent.

Toots · 01/06/2006 13:55

You're all watching aren't you?

(know I am Blush)

milward · 01/06/2006 13:58

started watching but rubbish this year - so have stopped. will probably see the friday show though

bakedpotato · 05/06/2006 10:22

Just checking in to confess
I've fallen off wagon
And I feel okay about it, actually [defiant]
I think it was Shabaaz who was making me feel sick about myself. I can see Sam stoking the same feelings though if this goes on

Think I may join you guys in protest! Big Brother this year is beginning to bore me..... all they do is bitch bitch bitch..... I am refusing to watch it now.

Until it livens up a bit Wink

Beetroot · 05/06/2006 11:25

i glanced at it last night and was appalled.. sthey are all so horrid

PandaG · 05/06/2006 13:08

I watched the opening episode - well half an eye while I read a book too, then I haven't watched any since. The last few years I have tried hard not to watch, and mostly succeeded until the last month when I have got sucked in. I intend not to watch at all this year!
