starts tonight (friday) 9pm ITV

3 parter about two friends - Serena and Poppy who were teenagers in 1995

Serena was seeing their teacher Marcus who then gets murdered

Poppy serves 17years and is now released though said she didnt do it

Serena acquitted and hasnt told anyone including hubby her past

Be interesting if story follows the book - unlike Crickly hall which changed things :(

I thought it was Marlene in the book...someone tell me if I remember right.

Yes Penelope and Skinny, in the book it's Marlene. Also, I don't think Poppy stabs him at all, but I may be wrong.
Anyone else a little disappointed? I thought the actress who played Poppy was brillant. Loved the book but a bit disappointed with the TV series...

If it was Marlene in the book-did she go to prison?

I'm guessing that the focus on the book was why Serena was so enamoured of him, could't leave him as to the mystery of "whodunnit"?

Just didn't work for me, still hated Serena.

Had no sympathy at all, even when it was her mum.

In fact I just hated her mum as well.

So it was all a bit "happily ever after" really.

I didn't read the book but did watch this and loved it. Maybe it's because I didn't have anything to compare it to not having read the book.

I think it was a bit blurred by the fact that Poppy had already stabbed him in a way.

Obviously the remova lof the knife & the repeated stabbings did for him!

I'd be really torn tbh-the mum didn't just kill him, she let Poppy go to prison for 17(?)yrs.

I think that at that moment I would hate my mum & could call the police tbh.

Whether or not I regretted it...

I haven't read the book otherwise I'd have probably been disappointed too.

I thought they wrapped it up too quickly. I think Serena would have battled with protecting her mum or telling the truth more than just a day.

She literally found the notes, confronted her mum a couple of hours after and then made her hand herself in the same day.

Would have been better if it was Marlene in the series too.

I really enjoyed this but havnt read the book

But it's on my table - ordered from amazon :)

Hal neither girl did it - though obviously stabbed to begin with

But why in the film say the mum did it but in the book the girlfriend did it

Why change the ending :(

People who don't get it have clearly never has a teacher crush. I fancied some awful looking men becauase they were my teachers!

I don't think it's a question of a teacher crush!

Many of us might have had a crush, but it's unlikely the teacher acted on it!

The ending was too rushed and I thought Serena wasn't half as good as Poppy. I suppose a better actor could have done the "carried a secret all these years, wanting everything out in the open and having sympathy with poor Poppy" more believably. And shown that Serena was aware her mother wouldn't be sent to prison and that she owed it to Poppy to own up. Her life was nearly over and Poppy still had a chance to clear her name and have a life.

I'd have like to have seen the step-dad's reaction, too.

This was a dreadful adaptation.

In the book Marlene was Marcus's ex wife and had a young son which is why she didn't own up as she couldn't bear her child to grow up knowing his mother killed his father who was an abusive pervert!

So many of the key characters in the book were left out and those that weren't were changed beyond recognition.

I re-read the book last week and realised just how awful this adaptation wasHmm

I know I'm late to this thread but I've only just caught up with the tv programme. How disappointing was that adaptation.

found this on the dorothy koomson website
www.dorothykoomson.co.uk/the-two-ice-cream-girls/

she didn't like it either
Most of you will have seen the drama by now so you?ll know it has a different ending and a different killer. For those asking: I didn?t have any say or input into any of the changes including the ending.

I was bitterly disappointed

Finished the book on holiday and ending so different - the book shows the girls being totally abused emotionally and physically - teacher was very conniving and the series didn't really show that

But why totally change the ending and killer?? Hmm
