Corrie:Breaking the barriers of UNREALISTIC.

Firstly, I'm a huge huge huge Corrie fan but pleeeeaaaaassse, the unrealism is reaching new limits.. few examples:-

  1. Anyone and everyone is a seamstress and can make knickers in t'factory
  2. Mary (I thought she was a newsagent)Taylor can suddenly not only run a cafe but be a chef of specialist cuisine, design adverts and purchase theatrical costumes and totally restyle the cafe all in one day.
  3. And the most unrealistic of them all - the doc (Weatherfields only) can see people for an appointment without a minutes notice and do housecalls into the bargain. He also seems to go around with a portable cytology/histology clinic/MR scan - how else can he do on the spot diagnosis of terminal illness? i.e. Gloria. P.S How on earth does everyone afford to booze all day in the Rovers, eat breakfast every morning in the cafe and eat out in the cafe or bistro every night when they all work in the above mentioned factory. Rob ( the manager who's just come out of prison) and Michelle (the manager who was a barmaid a few months back) must pay good wages.

You need to start watching Doctors BBC1 1.45pm weekdays. Makes all that look totally realistic. Wink

MrsBungleBear · 24/10/2012 19:04

Ha ha, dh and me say this all the time. Especially how everyone affords to drink every lunch time and evening!

I do love it though. Norris,.Mary and Steve are hilarious Grin

sensesworkingovertime · 24/10/2012 19:08

Thanks Sparkling - saw it ages ago, thankfully has faded into my distant memory!

MrsBB - yes they are hilarious (well maybe not Mary she irritates the bejeezus out of me) and now you mention Steve, is it me or is has he been going all out on the comedy performance since his split with Toxic. He seems to gurning or doing a stupid voice practically all the time.

I have seen a bit of Corrie recently. That Tracey Barlow needs to go doesn't she? And Barbara Royle appears to have been painted with creosote. Confused

TheAngelsHaveTheOod · 24/10/2012 19:15

sparkling I thought she was talking Doctors for a minute!

Sparklingbrook · 24/10/2012 19:17

I think you need to see an episode Of Doctors to compare and contrast senses. Shall we recommend last Friday's episode on I player Angels? Makes Corrie look like normality.

EdithWeston · 24/10/2012 19:27

I am actually rather cross that they have not tackled seriously the need for genetic counselling before using Izzy's eggs in a surrogacy. For EDS is autosomally dominant, and although how it manifests itself is so hugely variable from those upon whom it makes no impact (eg Katie), to those in RL for who it is fatal.

Now, Izzy's thoughts about whether it not she would put her body through pregnancy received air time. Why not her thoughts on having an EDS child?

griphook · 24/10/2012 19:28

Actually I liked to that issue with you Grin

She restyles the cafe in about 2hours. Cafe shuts at five, opens for Spanish night at 7.

sensesworkingovertime · 24/10/2012 19:32

Cest la vie Edith, they always make any medical situation laughable ( not in a funny way I hasten to add!)

Sparkling, I can see you are desparate for me to watch an episode of 'Doctors', either you want me to suffer or you want me to be cured of my Corrie Gripe...or both! Will make the effort to waste another half hour of my life at some point, hey, don't the clocks go back this weekend... yippee!

Friday's episode senses you will be Shock I promise. Grin Then when you get hooked you can come and join the Doctors thread.

sensesworkingovertime · 24/10/2012 19:34

and, in these jobs, you can get up and walk out whenever you choose to sort something out in your personal life (anyone who works in the Rovers does it regularly) , be gone for about 20 minutes........and it's no problem. Grin.

chocoluvva · 24/10/2012 20:09

Dangerous though - you're likely to be imprisoned, assaulted, harbour a con-artist, bigamist or murderer or at the very least have a no-good, cheatin' partner!

Arthurfowlersallotment · 24/10/2012 21:06

Good grief, tonight's episode had a lot going on though...

peasabovesticks · 24/10/2012 21:09

Kevin is bringing a baby up on his own and is breezing through it with ease.

lighthousekeeping · 24/10/2012 21:12

At least you at some point you will get laid. It's like pass the parcel around there.

chocoluvva · 24/10/2012 21:14

"At least at some point you will get laid" :o

sensesworkingovertime · 24/10/2012 22:59

Love it love it love it....you are all so right, can see you've all been making sharp observations, 1944girl so true you made me giggle. And what about the other day when Michelle ( you know, the MANAGER) had a personal crisis and solved it by getting boozed up over lunch - a fine example to the staff (actually not totally unrealistic, I used to have a boss like that but that's another thread...)

Yes I forgot about the children and the invisible 24/7 nursery, boy what I would give for access to that, wonder what the fees are?
It was amazing how little Liam was always with Kirky when Maria had one of her many problems or out with one of her many fellas and you never saw the little bleeder. What has happened to him now that he, Kirky, is on the razz with Beth all the time? Honestly, it's enough to give me sleepless nights I'm tellin' you.

One of the reasons i have started to watch Doctors recently is so that it makes Corrie (my all-time favourite) look much better.

This Lewis business is beyond crap as well.

SoleSource · 25/10/2012 13:58

Totally agree. Corrie is dumbing down by the episode.

chocoluvva · 25/10/2012 14:01

It's a victim of its own success - too many episodes a week now.

CremeEggThief · 25/10/2012 14:14

WRT to Gloria, isn't she just pretending to be ill to try to expose Lewis?

SoleSource · 25/10/2012 14:15

Oooh I believed Gloria too
! Confused

Hammy02 · 25/10/2012 14:16

Surely most employers wouldn't allow their staff to drink at lunchtime. It is a sackable offence where I work.
